I was wondering. Is there a Tfp guild of some sort? I need to get hooked up with one.
|
Ah the sweet embrace of Guild Wars addiction wraps around me once more. I totally almost forgot how great this game was when I gave it up for two months when I was writing my thesis. Basically I haven't played since just after Sorrow's Furnace came out. I haven't done the missions for Sorrows, but I did get one of my characters to Deldrimor War Camp. I'm hoping to get my Ranger through the basic storyline and cap his good elites before Faction comes out.
Right now I just need to get to Dunes of Despair before completing the desert missions. I did them all with henchmen last time, but a ranger isn't quite as easy as an elementalist. I love rangering, but I still think my original N/Me was the most fun ever, minion after minion after minion, I used to love altruistically helping out people in Ascalon as a level 20, just so I could minion the hell out of those early missions for fun. After three roleplaying characters, I don't think I'm up for doing it all over again, plus I want to leave an opening for a PvP character for when I want to compete. |
Another Easter egg I only just noticed.
I've played every profession except Warrior, nothing against them, I just never got around to it I guess, but during a PVP match my opponent used a move called 'Bonetti's Defense' which is what Westley, aka The Man in Black, aka The Dread Pirate Roberts uses against Innigo Montoya during their duel in "The Princess Bride" I love that movie. |
My son and I have this game but we've been unable to play for a month now. Seems that we're unable to connect to the GW servers but I cannot find any issue at all on my system and GW tech support says it's a network issue. Anyone on Comcast experiencing issues?

So who else here got in on the trader reset? I got 13 Superior Runes of Absorption, 10 Superior Runes of Vigor, and 20 Obsidian Shards for less than 10k. And right now I'm stuck on a load screen because the servers got overloaded. |
OH MY FUCKING GOD! I am soooo pissed right now its not even funny.....
Just so yall know, that was me that posted the above statement. I was on AlmoundJoy's laptop and couldn't remember my password. Turns out the trader reset was a server error, and instead of letting us keep the stuff, they are reseting the game back to before the error. I just LOST all that stuff. |
I need help with the Dukes Daughter quest. I keep getting my ass handed to me 90% into it!!
Anyone wanna help me? |
I'd be happy to help, but being in Australia I'm usually on at about 5am US time.
|
I remember that quest. It indeed was a tough one. I remember that for some reason, I had an extra Spoiler: urn of althea's ashes and i managed to sell it for a pretty high price :D
|
I hear ya bro, I got owned with the server reset too. SUCKS! Dude I bought so much shit that I didn't even need.
|
This is AlmoundJoy18 and me hanging out after I showed her a run.
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...id21/gw005.jpg] |
Where are you guys there?
|
Near the first portal on the run from Grendich Courthouse to Yak's Bend. AlmoundJoy just started running and I was showing her how to go through that area without having to deal with any gargoyles.
|
Ah thought it looked like Old Ascalon
Never done any running myself, since I've never had a Warrior, and because I'm one of those 'just do it' kind of annoying types. |
I used to do a lot of running, I can run most places in the game... except for the Several of the runs in the S. Shiverpeaks. Now I mainly farm, either for greens or Superior Runes.
|
|
If only I could muster up the dedication to farm...
|
what exactly is farming?
|
farming = going out and killing mobs over and over waiting for stuff to drop
|
I've tried farming before, but the repetitive aspect of the whole procedure really kills my enthusiasm pretty quickly. This is probably the reason why I only have about 40 grand total at any given time if I'm lucky.
I must say I am pretty stoked for Factions when it comes out. It'll be good to see the whole game get a bit of a shakeup, especially in PvP. I can enjoy being a n00b once again in PvE as well yey. |
I can't wait for Factions to be released either... If only I had the money to buy it.
|
Does anyone have an estimate for the release date?
In Australia would be preferable, this backwater island continent doesn't seem to get anything on time. |
I'd love to help any and all out there. I have a pretty kik ass lvl20 mesmer, anticaster/shutdown chick: Mimi North (also Sterna Caspia, Calypte Anna and my new necro still presear, Mona Necrosyrta)
Just add me to friends or PM me whenever. |

The global release is sceduled for April 28th. It says it on the login screen. |
Wow, I haven't played this in awhile... my laptop died and that was my main computer for playing Guild Wars. My desktop has a NVidia GeForce 6600GT which causes GW to crash under certain situations. The most easily repeatable crash is during the D'Alessio Seaboard mission. It sucks. :(
But I've certainly managed to more or less finish the first installation of GW. My monk finished all of the missions, and has extensive experience in The Underworld and Fissure of Woe, but has not yet finished all the quests. I'm about 1/3 way to a full set of Ascetic's Fissure Armor for the monk too. I also did a little bit of PvP/GvG, and have capped nearly all of the monk elite skills. So anyway, my characters are: Me/R20 Oberon Skyhanger (ascended, to Droknar's Forge) Mo/N(Me,W)20 Ganymede Skyhanger (ascended, to Hell's Precipice) N/E(Mo)20 Deimos Skyhanger (ascended, to Iron Mines of Moladune) E/Mo(Me)20 Europa Skyhanger (ascended, to Ice Caves of Sorrow) One of these days I'll get back to playing again. I miss my guild, they rock! |
Rock on, thanks for the tip Mage, haven't logged on in a couple of weeks, just started a new job, working hard, so time is at a minimum. I'm definitely going to make time for that bad boy though!
|
Mage, thanks for the hookups.
I have a question. I noticed that I health decreases on it's on when I'm out exploring without a quest. I starts once I confront anything. I show no spell cast on me. I thought you could explore if you wanted too. Why does this happen? |

Woot!
Is anyone else digging the Factions preview? Man, some stunning landscapes, new architecture and music. And Assassins... oh Shadow Step my new best buddy... |

no, no ranged attacks. I cleared the way through and then I die. I resurrect and make my way back. During my travel back to where I died I lose health. I have to use a potion to regain my health till I can use Life Siphon on a baddy.
|
vampiric weapon maybe? No clue what's going on.

Also, by "potion" he meant he used the skill Troll Unguent. The icon for it sort of looks like a potion so I could understand that confusion. |

Ah, troll unguent. Good to know he got that problem solved. |
Yay I win, I was right!
|
So is anybody else as annoyed as I am at the update that has the game saying: "You have been playing for 3 hours. Please take a break."?
And its pretty pointless too, because the timer resets each time to you change which character you are playing. |
3 hours? seriously? i haven't played guild wars in a while, but i remember having having to set aside at *least* three hours if I was hoping to get through a mission/bonus thing. sounds pretty lame.
|
Quote:
What mission where you doing? When I got the warning today it was after I had gone through Ice Caves, Iron Mines, and Thunderhead Keep. I didn't do the bonuses for any of them but still. I don't know of any mission/bonus in the game that takes 3 hours. Even a Tombs run only takes 1 1/2 - 2. |
well, i guess i'm including the time it takes to get myself started, find a group, and the inevitable failed attempts with a crappy team. granted, once things get rolling, the mission itself wouldn't take 3 hours, but it seems like the whole process would get me close to that.
|
That's why I either use henchies or ask guildies, no dealing with the idiots that play and somehow manage to make it past pre.
|
I just finished Thunderhead Keep on my 4th character the other day. So now all 4 of my chars can buy any non-elite skill through Dakk at Ember Light Camp! :)
I agree, the new timer is lame. I also HATE having to log out and relogin just to change characters. There are only a few missions that take more than an hour, and it depends if you do the bonus (Riverside Province can be done in 15 minutes, but requires an extra hour if you do the bonus). Some quests (especially Defend Droknar's Forge, Defend North Kryta Province and others involving Titans and the Prophecies PvE endgame) can also take more than an hour. I don't think I've done any that take more than 2 hours, unless you count Fissure of Woe or Underworld runs. |
I just started soloing FoW with my warrior and it takes forever. I can't wait to get better at it so that it will take less time. I've been playing GW for 9 months and I have yet to get one of my chars past Ring of Fire, I just have no motivation to complete the last missions.
|
So, anyone preorder Factions?
I'm going to get it tomorrow anyhow, just wondering what the first impressions are? |
Wow, nobody has posted anything about Factions yet? There were members of my guild in Cantha 2 min. after the servers were opened. I, unfortunatly, do not have Factions yet, and I won't have it for a few weeks, I'm broke.
|
I started a Ritualist today. I preordered, and it's mostly pandemonium at the moment.. some people cant get in, and the people that can seem to be rushing about trying to power level or get all the new equipments.. However, I'm having fun with the ritualist.. but I think he's better suited as a secondary to a caster class. Oh well. The missions seem like they're going to be a lot of fun :)
|
ya i was looking into factions too...i can afford it no prob i just don't feel like paying for it...lol i hear that it's suppose to be qicked though....i restarted my account cause i deleted my old one not realizing that i still needed it...lol so i'm only at lvl 10 right now...what's stats is everyone else???
|
My Assassin is at level 12 and I'm totally loving the new profession. I'm curious about the Ritualist, but you gotta admit there's something about dealing a massive amount of concentrated damage that appeals...
|
I'm waiting for my guildies to lvl their assasins to 20. I want to see how well they will fair against my warrior. I did a pre-emptive skirmish against a lvl 12 today, I killed him in 5 seconds, but his first attack did 32 dmg, and that was through physical resistance ( I mainly play W/Me, as it is badass). Seems like the ritualist was an attempt to mix the elementalist and necromancer classes though.
I can't wait to find a sundering axe haft. 20/20 sundering with penetrating blow is gonna do some serious dmg. |
I found a 20/20 sundering set of daggers with +30 fortitude as well yesterday.
A pity they are a pathetic 6-12 dmg though. Still useful for the early game I suppose. I think an assassin could go head to head with a warrior and win if they played it right. Let's just say you better be packing clumsiness if you go against a level 20. |
Nah, Assassin head to head with a Warrior usually ends up in the Warrior's favour. When you are high damage, low durability going up against high damage, high physical durability... yeah. However, this is GW, there's a counter for everything, if you use Blinding Powder or Temple Strike, you can beat a Warrior no problem. Likewise, if they Blind you...
Gotta love how there's a counter to everything. |

Dueled a lvl 17 last night. Kicked ass, however, the other person has no runes as of yet. I can't wait for him to complete the character, it'll be some awesome dueling. |
So how's everyone doing in Factions?
My Assassin has made level 20, but is pretty scant on skills. Anyone got any tips on what I should be prioritising at the skill trader? |
wow.. you're lvl 20 already..
man i'm a slow player.. my highest prefactions character is still only level 17.. i really stop too many times to smell the roses i guess.. ( and i'm also a very casual gamer) I just came back to the game a few days ago (finals just ended.) |
With quests giving you 2-3000 XP I found myself leveling a hell of a lot faster in Shing Jea than my Tyrian characters ever did.
|
I'm interested in playing Guild Wars, but the thought of paying $100 for both games is kind of putting me off. Does anyone know any retailers who are offering a bundle of the two games? If I could find something like that it would probably make my decision much easier haha.
|
i gleamed this from a faq on www.guildwars.com
Is Guild Wars Factions an expansion pack or a stand-alone game?
So.. you can choose which ever one you wanna play no need to drop 100 bones |
Geez, no word on GW for a couple of months.... Has everyone just stopped playing?
(I wish I could play it right now, but my laptop crapped out....) |
I've been playing tons of GW
Right now I'm moving my new PVE monk through the desert, but I've been enjoying expanding into new areas in the game like trading and PvP. |
They just announced Guild Wars Nightfall...
Looks mega sweet. |
Hope it's got more RP content than Factions.
|
its a pretty good game considering there is no monthly fee, but its also got its downsides.
1) if you don't have a 128MB graphics card, the lag can be overwhelming at times. 2) you can only reach as high as level 20, so a lot of people stop playing when advancement is no longer possible 3) im pretty sure the most a weapon can have for base damage is 18-35, so don't plan on reaching a stage where you can overpower everybody you come up against 4) guild wars entertainment is at its best in its PvP and the actual wars between guilds. the Cooperative missions that advance you through the game are just that, ways of getting farther. most of the missions in the original game pay very little money compared to the work you have to do in some of them, however if you buy the expansion, money is everywhere. 5) Unlike WoW, you can only have 6 characters (8 if you have Factions Expansion) total, you don't get to make different characters for every server. the biggest Pro in the game are being able to play the game without the disk, and creating your own guild. you get to choose the island, and you get to buy services for your guild to house, such as a weapon smith or a storage agent. starting a guild costs around 18 platinum (1plat=1000gold), customizing your guild's cape costs 2 plat, and service prices range from 10 plat at the cheapest all the way up to 100 plat. to be completely honest, if you are looking for an MMORPG, stick with World of Warcraft and just pay the fee. its easiest to buy game cards at gamestop or something where you can pay $45 for 3 months of play instead of having to pay by credit card, and if you are short on dough one month, not playing will not cause you to lose your account. WoW is just much more worth it in the long run |
I'm going to have to disagree with some of your points here nohitters.

I frankly love the fact that the levelling grind in Guild Wars is mercifully short, and I'd probably stop playing if I found myself having to labour through hours upon hours of XP farming just to get to the top. Quote:
Quote:
I'll agree that the lag and the 6 character slots is a limitation, but those are both being looked into right now which is good to know. People can play whatever they like as far as I'm concerned, I just think you're giving GW a bit of a raw deal here. |

Picked up Factions the other day and I'm enjoying myself. I have a lvl 10 N/Rt, and I haven't joined a guild or actually played with other people (I use the War and Monk henchmen.) I've cancelled my WoW acct. which expires Aug. 22nd and I probably won't renew until expansion, if it's appealing to me. WoW is nothing but a PvE fest and it sucks, BG's are not real PvP and World PvP is dead (IMO, I came from DAoC.) Blizzard thinking they're going to somehow revive World PvP by adding some ridiculous sand collecting objective in Silithus is...well ridiculous.
I'm actually quite pleased with how well the game runs considering there's no monthly fee. I get the occasional lag spike in prime time but it's nothing like what WoW has/had, at least yet! I have a couple RL friends that were also thinking about quitting WoW and playing some GW. I still need to find a decent guild though, so once I'm 20 I can get some decent gear and explore a bit, even though from what I hear gear doesn't matter much in GW. |
Well here's my experience with Guild Wars...
I bought Prophecies the first day it came out, and fought the rift wardens, spirit spams, and the ancient lightning surge+orb combos when they were popular with the Koreans. To be competent at pvp, you had to have stuff unlocked. So I spent my whole summer unlocking everything: skills, runes, weapon upgrades, etc. It got boring really quick, as it was no longer a game, but a chore. After that there was nothing left to do, except getting the overpriced fissure armor. And that's exactly what I did, farming hours for gold to pay the dummy forgemaster. By then I have finished every task aside and I was ready to play pvp, but I didn't know alot of people and my guild was mostly offline. I spent most of my time unlocking stuff and getting fissure armor when I could've made some new friends and earn some fame. :| You're better off grouping with henchmens than waiting forever for some idiotic monk in pve. If you're in a good guild with some good friends then you can have alot of fun. Most of the guilds I was in broke up sooner or later because of differences and conflicts. After my last guild split, I was tired of all the bullshit so I stayed solo again, which I did most of the time anyways. If there was a monthly fee I would not have bought it. You spend most of your time waiting in this game, waiting for something, waiting for something to happen, and sometimes, waiting for something to happen while waiting for something else to happen, while waiting for someone. But the Devs work really hard to keep players happy and make the game enjoyable, even if it means a Halloween or Christmas celebration, or an occasional nerf :) . I did learn alot from this game, stuff like how obsidian is really a rock, how you can run through portals without teleporting, how a ranger can run Elona, how much more you can know someone just by hearing their voice on TS/Vent, and that you can lose considerable weight if you play for 2 weeks straight without food on your mind. Haha. Well all the new stuff in Factions didn't convince me to spend another summer unlocking and farming, as I did not want to go through that phase again. Oh yeah i also met a stripper online through the game, but that's another story... |

Level 20 just means you max out your health points and power but you still can develop new skills/spells, change up and refine your class, develop new skill combos etc. The Level 20 cap DOESN'T mean you stop advancing. Level 20 is just where your character becomes mature - because there's a lot to develop after that. Most folks reach level 20 way before the campaign is over. I never heard of anyone quitting just because they reached level 20 - because by then they realize that level 20 is just the beginning. The cap is just a way of keeping the game from being dominated by folks with 2 million health points and deliver 20,000 in damage with each blow. In Guild Wars a good player is one who is insightful and experienced enough to assemble an effective build and skillful enough to put it into action .... not just someone with bigger numbers. I prefer the game with that cap. |
I quit playing a few months ago, primarily due to being too busy to play. I also opted not to buy Factions because it seemed bent on PvP.. and I don't really enjoy that in Prophecies. I love PvE in Prophecies, but I had a lot of trouble finding skilled people to finish the game (my monk has done everything except some of the endgame quests, and Lornar's Pass/Snake Dance). So I quit...
|
I love PvE and PvP, and I think there's enough of both for everyone.
That being said, Guildwars is not nearly as fun alone as it is with a Guild. Joining a reliable, organised and active Guild made this game exponentially better for me. For a while my interest was flagging because I was in the same situation that Bolla was in. I ended up joining a big Aussie guild and since then I've had nothing but fun in GW. I've won Halls, I've never had problems getting weapons or items, and I'm not playing with strangers. |
Woot, double faction this weekend, and Nightfall preview next weekend! Who all is gonna join in on the fun?
|
So who else absolutely DESPISES the new interface changes for Nightfall?
