As an Me to an Mo, I want to say this: Don't find Smite Hex. And DEFINITELY don't tell anybody where it is, if you do. :D I currently use 6 hexes, 1 spell (shatter enchantment) and a res sig.

I used to just do domination magic, but decided.. it's really easy in this game to spread out, instead of focusing on one thing.. you spend way, way too many skill points, and runes, even just major runes, can help get your skills where you want them.. I'm around ~10-13 in fast casting, dom, and illusion magic, and i only have 1 rune on (don't want to spoil all my pricey armor just yet..) The illusion magic is great against warriors!! People learn to take out the Me pronto, to save their monk, so I cast a few hexes on the warrior thats charging at me, slow him down, and back up while somebody nukes the hell out of him, once he's out, then it's on to backfire and all that goodness like usual. :D

astrahl 06-21-2005 04:01 AM

I've had some really good experiences with some players. I have found that most are really friendly and rather un-surprised that I'm a female who plays the game. Of course, I've had my share of leroys (http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...=leroy+jenkins). Douchebags who jump into shit only to die in the middle of a charr fortress. Then they bail out of the group/quest/mission.

I've started a guild for female characters (FEM). I thought it would be cool to do a GvG with a team of chicks, or at least chick characters.

Pet peeve about the interaction...why do people insist on doing trade on the "all" channel? It feels like I'm being spammed to death in Asc. Dist 1. But I love this game. I also really like that there is no monthly fee. :)

It's really freaking hard to trade in ascalon district 1 by trying to see who is selling what. I just yell out "I NEED A NEW AXE" or something to that effect. I usually get a bunch of pms within 2 minutes. Just turn off everything except pm, and you won't have any troubles with the mass trade messages.

Although I am not female, all my characters are female =)

It's good to see more and more girls getting into gaming these days. Hopefully they will break into the FPS and RTS boys clubs as well in the near future...

Well, quake 3 has a number of female avatars

and there are female heroes in a few RTS games. Infested Kerrigan was awesome! :D

Heck ya, Kerrigan is my all time favorite game character and protoss is my favorite race/in general (or whatever not sure what category it'd fit under) and both in the same game. And Terran had some good characters too, warcraft series really doesn't hold a candle to starcraft. Its a wonder why theyve only made 1 SC and so many WCs. I'd love to see a next generation MMO of the starcraft universe. Would be the ultimate game. (would have to be next gen because the normal levels and exp system really wouldnt work, I mean what, a lvl 60 zergling?)

Zeraph 06-22-2005 09:42 PM

PS I think Kostya meant real girls playing those games, not men playing female avatars in them or general female NPCs. :)

Yeah.

Kerrigan did rock the Kasbah though...

Ahhh, Starcraft...

Heady times...

So, update, I'm in Lion's Arch and still a closet noob...

Siege 06-23-2005 09:32 AM

Doh, misread the post

Nah, don't worry about where you are. I'm not that much past Lion's Arch. But then again, I haven't played the game in forever.

If you/anybody needs someone to tank some damage while screaming "OMG MEDIC!" go ahead and add me. Or better yet, pm me to set up a time since i'm hardly on.

(Add the warrior, i don't think a level 8 necro will do too much tanking)

FngKestrel 06-23-2005 11:08 PM

Finally found Resurrect. Took long enough. After the rest of the guys logged off, I went out solo for shits and giggles. Keep in mind that I'm a Mo/Ne.

I had a sword and cast mending, retribution and live vicariously on myself. So, I had 2 arrows of health regen, damage reflection and health gain everytime I attacked someone. Amazingly, I held up pretty well, even with 4 stone elementals pounding on me at one point.

astrahl 06-24-2005 03:43 AM

Fng,
Have you found Holy Wrath? I think that's the name of the spell, you cast it on a friendly (or yourself) and all foes around you take gobs of holy damage for several seconds...saved my butt on a solo quest from Serenity Temple.

Siege 06-24-2005 08:48 AM

Hmm, I thought resurrect was a spell that was easy to find. Or maybe I was just lucky..

As for the spell you are talking about astrahl, you get it pre-searing, so I would hope that FngKestrel has it :)

FngKestrel 06-24-2005 09:13 AM

Yeah, I've got Wrath, but I just wanted to see how effective of a melee fighter I could be. :D

And I guess looking at the world map, Resurrect was more south than the majority of the quests we were doing. So, in theory, I should have been able to find it earlier than I did.

I still haven't touched the game. I think it's been more than 2 weeks. My buddy wants me to help him finish the villainy of galrath quest, since it's the only one he hasn't done yet.

Kostya 07-01-2005 07:08 PM

I've been playing Guild Wars exponentially MORE as I go along.

Want to get my PVP skills happening, because right now I'm a total noob.

Finally made it to Droknars Forge, got mah sexy new armour and am poor again...

Siege 07-01-2005 09:30 PM

Now you can work on the 15k per piece armor :D

Yeah, I actually kind of want to start playing again. But I have midterms coming up. So maybe after that.

Kostya 07-03-2005 09:23 PM

Farming is pretty much the only way to get that armour, a LOT of farming...

One more mission to go...

The tail end of the game is hell on non-Guild affiliated players, because random groups are entirely pot luck...

I've had lava loving warriors, monks with tank delusions, those delightful people who capture and drop out, the abusive angsty teenager types and pretty much every other group ruining kind of player known to Tyria...

I love the game when you have friendly, level headed people in your group, it's a dream, even when I'm dying I'm having fun, but mannnn, after failing Elona about fifty times, I was reaching the end of my very very long tether...

Anybody else noticed the ridiculous abundance of W/Mo these days?

I'm one of the originals!

But it is a useful class to play. You are able to tank it out while keeping yourself relatively alive.

After midterms, I guess i'll start playing again

Kostya 07-04-2005 05:10 PM

Hehe, good call. I've got nothing against the w/Mo build, it's pretty damn useful. Though I hate it when some boneheaded group leader decides that a W/Mo can 'double as healer'. Yeah... right...

Finally finished all the storyline missions...

That last one is a doozy...

Now, the capture signet comes out and it's boss huntin time...

What's even better is when you ONLY have a W/Mo as your team's healer. Good times.... Not only is the w/mo him/herself screaming "omg medic!", the rest of the team is also!

Johnny Pyro 07-04-2005 07:18 PM

I love Guild wars! I'm a Necro/Warrior lv14. My player is Johnny Pyro. Its better than COH because its free! :D

Kostya 07-11-2005 05:57 PM

I for one am still playing this game. Finally got my PvE character almost complete, ready to move into some PvP action.

FngKestrel 07-11-2005 07:00 PM

I'm still playing too! I made a second character, looking for a little more punch than my Mo/N. I settled on a E/Me, but I find myself using more Me skills than E skills.

astrahl 07-12-2005 07:43 AM

I just went thru searing with another build myself - Mimi North, a mesmer/monk. Found a black dye yesterday too!

Kostya 07-12-2005 06:53 PM

Good to hear. Having gotten the storyline monkey off my back I've been PVPing with my N/Me in the random arenas.

Hella fun, but frustrating, because skills are only marginally effective in a situation where you have say 2 Mesmers, a ranger and a necro come up against three monk eles and a warrior...

Thinking about going for the E/Me build purely for the Aeromancing PVP factor. Something tells me that the Aero spike build is going to go out of fashion in the near future because of all the counters people have been devising...

Anyone else noticing the rampant inflation due to people buying gold on ebay and upping the prices ridiculously. I hate it when that happens.

Siege 07-13-2005 07:48 PM

People buy guild wars items on ebay? Haha, time to sell my account. Time to get my friends to sell theirs' too. Rolling in the benjamins... :D

FngKestrel 07-15-2005 12:06 AM

Okay, so I was looking at the running price for black dye. 6 platinum?!

And runes, Warrior Rune of Superior Absorption = 51 plat, 575 gold?!

How the hell does anyone have that much money?

I've heard of prices up to 100 plat. So 51 plat is relatively tame.

I'm not really that far in the game, i've just reached the desert area. I have roughly 8 plat myself. However, if I really wanted to, I could sell all my runes (most of which I won't use anyway), my dyes (including 3 blacks), my weapon upgrades, my set of purple weapons (none of which I use) and my gold staff (which i don't use).

I guess it really depends where you are in the game. My friend who's finished the story mode says money isn't too much of a problem once you reach the later portions of the game.

FngKestrel 07-15-2005 09:16 AM

But come on, 6 platinum just for dye? I mean, are people so vain and they have to have their dark and moody character that they're willing to shell out that much cash in relation to the other colors? I feel like I should buy up all outstanding vials of orange and artificially inflate the price.

Siege 07-15-2005 01:08 PM

Haha, if you're interested in doing that, i'll totally do it with you. Haha.

WTT: Black dye for 100 orange dyes!

FngKestrel 07-15-2005 01:41 PM

I'd totally be down for that. Got two vials of black over here. I wonder how many people will go for it?

FngKestrel 07-16-2005 01:21 AM

I started buying up orange vials. People are willing to part with them for between 50 - 130 gold.

What's the best way to leverage the price? Buy up from the trader? Or only offer trades for black dye?

My friend pointed out a major flaw in our plan.

and that flaw is...... orange dye is available from the dye trader. This means that it's actually impossible for us to buy out all the orange dye.

We need to think of a semi rare colour. Maybe silver?

FngKestrel 07-16-2005 11:44 PM

Silver's sold at the traders too. I see it for 1 plat 415 gold.

What if we only offer trades for black. I've got 3 vials of black. Or just trade all dyes and items for orange dye. Like, basically, convert dye into a money unit of sorts, worth about 200 gold right now. So if we want to trade black dye, we divide the cost of black dye by the cost of orange dye plus a marginal increase (40%). So 6917(current black)/141(current price) + 56.4 (40%) = 35 orange dyes. Maybe a bit more to compensate for the fact that after a certain point, the cost of the orange dye is going to go up.

Or we could just ask for 100 orange dyes for a black dye and see how many people are willing to go to the trader and buy the number of orange dyes to get the black dye or willing to farm for 200 hours. Basically, this deal has a penalty on people who can't do math.

In essence, we let our purchasers buy from the trader and push up the price. And since we got our initial stores of orange for cheap, once we've pushed the price up, per unit, we can sell at profit. Man, I should quit my job and become day trader.

Siege 07-17-2005 04:46 AM

Hmm... i'd say the best way is to buy it from the trader first. If we buy loads of it first, the price will have increased. Then we offer trades for it while it isn't TOO expensive. I'd say this will result in a better profit.

We're really going to need other people in on this... haha

FngKestrel 07-17-2005 01:26 PM

Heh, okay, What price do you think we should push the orange up to? The next highest color?

At the time of this post, These are the prices:

Blue 495
Green 216
Purple 185
Red 312
Yellow 161
Orange 141
Silver 1028
Black 6917

Yellow is the next highest at 161. Green and Red are the 2 colors in the middle of the pack, priced at 216 and 312 respectively. Average of those two is 264.

SiNai 07-18-2005 07:51 AM

If you think those are expensive, the new Fissure of Woe armor is over 1000 plat in rare crafting items.

how can something cost over 1000 plat? i thought 1000 plat was the max you could hold.

FngKestrel 07-18-2005 06:01 PM

I think he means that the sum total of crafting items that you'll need in order to craft the item costs more than 1000 plat.

Kostya 07-20-2005 05:28 PM

Fissure armour...

Why in the hell would anyone bother?

It's so rare people probably wouldn't even know you're wearing it anyway...

Zeraph 07-20-2005 06:07 PM

Looks, and once you've bought your weapon/shield/offhand and runes what else is there to spend it on? Not that I'd bother grinding the gold for it.

FngKestrel 07-23-2005 11:14 AM

Here's a question. Having a mess of dyes from gaming, I'm looking at mixing colors. Is there a guide to what colors you get from mixing dyes together? And I'm talking like complex colors, not red + blue = purple stuff.

Dragonknight 10-31-2005 04:24 AM

so has any one gotten boared with the game yet? most of my guild mates stopped playing a while back. it kind of sucks becaue i'm on every now and then and there's no one else there. I could try for a new guild, but don't want to deal with a bunch of noobs (don't get me wrong i don't mind helping) that will only play for a while and then get boared and i'm stuck in the same position.

Siege 10-31-2005 09:24 AM

Haven't played this game in forever.

Just join a competitive Guild. My friend co-founded one when the game first started and then left it to join one that was competitive. Competitive Guilds will usually have members online. Since the ones that aren't online enough get kicked out.

FngKestrel 10-31-2005 09:34 AM

I'm still playing it. I finally got my char up to level 20 and realized I was only halfway through the coop missions.

Zeraph 10-31-2005 12:46 PM

Yeah I havn't been playing anymore, combat is just simply not fun and the storyline, IMO, sucks.

Dragonknight 10-31-2005 12:54 PM

Yeah it's not as catching as it used to be. I might have to look into a different game to play on line, or just finally beat the billion games i have at home that i have yet to beat. "sigh" it was fun when it lasted.

FngKestrel 10-31-2005 01:20 PM

If there's no one I know online, I will usually take a chance on amateur night. Many people are competent, but you always get that one Leeroy Jenkins candidate...

Kostya 10-31-2005 03:40 PM

My Guild tends to have a core group of fairly dedicated players, and a high turnover of flaky noobs and leechers...

We've managed to build up a pretty solid foundation...

Not that I'd know cause I haven't been on for like a month... ARRRRRRRRRRRG

SiNai 11-02-2005 02:51 PM

I only play PVP now, my guild won HoH finally for our first time last weekend. We are unstoppable in TA too :)

The storyline was terrible, I was laughing at every cutscene.. Glad to have it out of the way, now I can get all the skills I need by faction

If anybody wants a competitive guild, .. PM :)

Scrub0 11-02-2005 09:40 PM

i stopped playing about a month ago, cause everyone i knew quit also. near the end all i did was PVP. comp arena is fun provided you get a good team. i'll probably play again once 1v1 pvp is possible, i hate relying on a group of random idiots.

btw, my char name is M A N I A C, lvl 20 W/Me. maybe some of you saw me around.

ScottKuma 11-29-2005 10:22 AM

Can u kick a shiatty leader?

Our leader is laying down on the job - I'd basically like to take over the guild leader responsibilities...craft ourselves into a nice guild.

Does anyone know if there's a way to get rid of a bad leader?

Coppertop 11-29-2005 11:37 AM

Impeachment.

Kostya 11-29-2005 04:07 PM

One of the more ridiculous things in GW is that they give the Leader total sovereignty over the Guild, even if they don't want it. So if your Leader goes AWOL, you have to all leave and form a new guild with a new name.

My guild has suffered massive atrophy from the gradual conversion of the faithful to the delights of Civ 4 and X Box 360s and so forth...

Still playing though. Anyone heard about this new profession the Assassin?

Siege 11-29-2005 08:54 PM

Has there actually been an expansion yet? I'm thinking of going back to my lvl 19 W/Mo just to get to level 20

FngKestrel 11-29-2005 10:11 PM

right now Black Dye goes for about 8K per vial (this is post-sear). I had over a million gold and had to invest in something because the storage limit is at a million ... so I bought up as much black dye as possible at 5-6K per vial. Maybe it's a coincidence but within the next few days the price of black dye shot up to over 26K per vial at the vendor. Since then I sold off a bunch of dye for a profit and the price came down within a few days down to 9K per vial.

BTW - this is what a million gold looks like ...

I usually post on the guildwarsguru forums - I'll just plant some of my more interesting posts here.

Here's the longest PvP arena game I've played.
My character is Ashley Allemang.
Our battle went on for more than 30 minutes when it was apparent that nobody was gonna win. One side couldn't do enough damage and the other side couldn't strip the right enchantments.

So we decided to dance it off . . .
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...yne/fight3.jpg

---------
But nobody wanted to be the first to log off!

I went and got a sandwich and came back - mostly everyone was still there.

So we decided to have 1v1 bouts - I was the female warrior and had a 1v1 with their warrior. (I won btw) - I couldn't screencap that because I was fighting.

Below you see our monk vs. their mesmer - it was a draw.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...yne/fight4.jpg

Later we did some hardcore rock/paper/scissors - I don't recall the score.

Still, nobody wanted to be the first to log off!

Here we are just waiting it out - playing chicken.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...yne/fight5.jpg

I wish I could tell you how it ended - I left around this time. For all I know they're still there - lol

I made most of my gold through farming solo with my Monk in areas like Kryta mission or Nebo Terrace where there are many undead to kill.

Farming Sorrow's Furnace will usually turn up green items. Greens aren't as special as people think they are, but the nicer ones sell for 100k+, and they are easy to sell because everybody knows what they are. Running is a good alternative as well..

dun_ask 12-06-2005 03:09 PM

Do you guys usually farm solo? I kinda have to go with henchies..they steal my drops :(

longbough 12-06-2005 04:32 PM

A Monk refuses to be bullied by a Warrior ...

Nice idea - but bad method.

I'll leave the aftermath to your imagination.

I farm solo ... Mo/W, Mo/Me are good farmers. I've heard good farming builds with Warrior and Elementalist primaries, too, but I never farmed with them.

I'm not sure if anyone has posted this yet, but once I saw it I completely laughed my ass off. I'm glad that Guild Wars has a sense of humor.

For those of you who don't know where that's from or what Killroy Stonekin is refered to...you might want to google Leeroy Jenkins. :)

Lmao indeed.

Donations excepted! (Jaina the Princess) =P

JK! :P

longbough 12-08-2005 10:15 AM

lol - yeah I noticed when I first saw that dwarf.

Here's another easter egg:

- In the Ice Cave mission ending cutscene Evennia (in white) is escorted by 7 dwarves.

Siege 12-08-2005 02:14 PM

Aaaaah, that bitmap picture is insane. 2.3 megs for 1 picture. Please try to post jpegs instead as they're a lot smaller.

Funny pic though :D

just open your BMP file in MS Paint and save it as a JPG. Then send it back to whatever online photo album you're using and edit your post with the new file.

so i've had the game for a lil while, but only recently started playing it, whats the top level in this levle 20? and if soo how do u get better if ur level 20?

Coppertop 12-20-2005 04:31 PM

Yes, 20 is the current level cap, but you can still gain attribute points after that. You'll also most likely to hit level 20 long before reaching the later cities & areas in the game, enabling access to the best skills, arms & armor.

dun_ask 12-23-2005 10:30 AM

xmas season is here, and ascalon actually looks PRETTY!

After level 20 you still have skills you can acquire ... after that there isn't much more to acquire other than equipment and money. But it's not as bad as it might seem ... because your skill as a 20th level character depends on "building" an effective combination of skills and character subclasses (you can only equip 8 skills at a time)... everyone has their own style of play and their own theory ... so no two 20th level characters are alike (unless both are copycatting builds they read online). You learn weaknesses and strengths of other players' styles which you must consider when playing against others or when supporting other players in a party.

I like this method much better than games that allow people to grind up to level 200, or something. GW forces you to think and plan ... also you can experiment with different builds all the time. My primary monk character has several "builds" that I designed myself for my style of playing ... Through experimentation I have some "secret" strengths that give me certain advantages in many situations (no doubt other people have their "secrets" too).

People actively debate on the best way for, say, a monk to use his skills - whether he's mainly a smiter, a healer, protector or any combination of the above ... and which skills are best to emphasize in each area ... then there's the role of the monk's subclass (mesmer, necromancer, warrior, ranger, elementalist ....) and how that might help a monk to maintain high energy (mana) stores - or how to use those skills to make his/her other skills even more effective.... the power of combinations is almost limitless.

If you're a level 20 who defeats someone else (also level 20) in PvP it's much more satisfying since you know it's your skill as a player that allowed you to dominate - not just who has the better hit points, damage and armor class.

Another quick easter egg- I'm sure most of you have already noticed- All the Rodgort's spells? Spell it backwards. :)

Of course! I knew that was oddly familiar! Though in my defense I havn't had seen or thought about trogdor in quite awhile.
