Plz Help out -- Game Price.

I'm curious as to what people think when they see the prices for a game and what they think. I know a company that is new, and is trying to figure out what to set the price of their game as. A new company selling for a high price like 50 bucks or greater doesn't stand a chance, and fourty may also be a hard bargin.... 20 probly won't cut it, but will $30 do? If you're curious the game is an FPS (non clone)

So here is what I ask of you, I'm going to label some Price Tags.. tell me what you think of them (like if the price is too low for a new game, so you'll walk right past it, or if its just too damn expensive, or if its doable, and what not.)

What Do You Do When You See A NEW Game at This Price:

$20 --

$30 --

$40 --

$50 --

$60 --

Also if there in an inbetween like say 25.. or35.. go ahead and state it. Every gamer may have a different range of money that they will pay. To me 20 bucks for a new game simply doesn't cut it. To me it seems like the company isn't very sure of their game, and so I usually stay away, but at 30 bucks... That hits my range, And I'll check it out. This is what I want to hear from all of you gamers.

Thank you very much for your Time.

$20 -- This seems too low for me. Its like the company doesn't doesn't feel confident in their game. Because of this I tend to keep walking. Twenty bucks is a NO GO in my book.

$30 -- This fits me quite well. Its high enough to believe that the game has potential. On top of that I don't see many games over 45 bucks anymore, so this isn't that far off. Also I'm a college student so 30 bucks really appeals to me. If its thirty bucks, I'll check it out.

$40 -- this is about the same as my $30 response. There are a lot of games at this price, but for a new game and new company.. this might be a stretch, one might think weird, dunno. Since I'm in college, I make "Tripply" sure that I want it..

$50 -- I rarely look at ANY game thats 50 bucks anymore. It probably explains why I haven't bought any Gamecube games in a while, they usually start off at fifty bucks. New Game + $50 == NO GO from Gak.

$60 -- Too damn expensive. I simply do not buy games that cost 60 bucks. PERIOD.

(I figured I oughta at least show my own views, and show you guys what I was looking for... Examples are the best explanations)

$60.00 is too high. The MSRP on most videogames that come out are $40.00 to $50.00. I'll buy games for $50.00, but I like to have the best games right when they come out. $40.00 is a good price for a game made in the past year that is new. Used games should be $20.00 approximately. $30.00 is a good price for new games that are getting a bit old (over a year).

$44.99 is as high as I will go, and no lower than $29.99 for a brand-new game. I bought a collector's edition of Daggerfall for $60, and that game, while lots of fun, was a buggy piece of crap.

Re: Plz Help out -- Game Price.

$20 -- If it's a game I'm interested in... boo yah.

$30 -- This is where I won't buy a 'budget' game (serious Sam, etc.)

$40 -- For a new game I really want to play, I would probably pay this.

$50 -- I would only pay this if the game came with something extra, like a collectors edition type package.

$60 -- No. Not even for a collector's edition.

20- makes me worry if I dont know about the game. Otherwise, hell yeah

30- good price for a first game from a company, 40 may do it also but it better bring me back for another go.

50- no. Too much for the college student in me. Maybe if it is really good and offers replayability and its around chrstmas time or summer vacation.

60- when I win the lotto

I look at $20 and under games quickly, scanning for titles of something I forgot about. Or something to pass the time. For instance Dungeons Siege is no epic, but it’s fun for $20.

If it is brand new for $20… don’t look at it. Period.

$30 is okay, below par but probably good. Game (pc) may go this low in a year. (I’m a snob to pick what I want but not a ‘eww that’s old’ type)

$40 – these are almost always the best. Most slightly less advertised but great games run at $40. I’m an console rpg’r so $40 is usasulaly wat is needed.

$50 – if it is special. A FF game, a game I wait a few years for.

$60, r a r e. working designs does such a good job with packages killer extras and all for a higher price, but you get what you pay for. It’s for the fans…

I say $35.

A touch above the ‘always good but not great’ titles and slightly lower than a sure shot title.

Problem is this: if you come off cocky or expensive, people will flip you off. If you undercharge they’ll think ‘it can’t be good’.

I hope this helped! (tho im fighting sleep to finish the post)

$20 - If it's brand new, I'd buy some compressed air and CD-Rs instead.

$30 - If I've heard good things about it, or it's by a company who has made great games in the past, I'd maybe get it (if there was nothing else worthwhile).

$40 - 9 times out of 10, if I want this game, I'll get it.

$50 - It'd have to be really freakin' unbelievable. Half-Life 2, Jedi Academy, and those types of games. And I'd only get it if it just came out, if it has been out like 4 or 5 weeks, I'd wait till a price drop.

$60 - No way. Unless it was the best special edition ever and I had the money and nothing else to do but burn it.

20 - Are you giving it away? Is it reall that much of a P.O.S

30 - I'd do it

40 - I'd do it if I read good reviews

50 - I'd do it if I've been waiting for it for a damn while and I am really exicted about

60 - I better get like 50 fucking dollars worth of collecters edition stuff...

I'm Canuckian, so our prices are *slightly* higher up here - maybe an additional $5 to $10. So this reflects that somewhat:

$20 -- Actually, I like this price point. I am willing to take a risk on this price point if the game looks good from the box art and synopsis. I'll buy this price point without "research".

$30 -- If it got decent reviews, and is a genre I enjoy, then this price works for me. If the game looks REALLY good by the synopsis/box, I may purchase without research.

$40 -- Same as $30, but I'm a bit stickier on how good the review/word of mouth is. Definitely would not buy without researching, no matter how good it looked.

$50 -- This is the price I expect to pay for a game that I've really been waiting for, or a sequel to a game I absolutely loved. Definitely would not purchase unless I knew it was something I was going to enjoy.

$60 -- There are a few - VERY few - developers that I would pay this price for. Working Designs does such a great job with their releases that this price isn't even an issue for them. Hell, I've spent over $100 on their game and strategy guide, and would again! Honestly, if Blizzard charged $60 for their games, I would pay it as well. I just know that I'm going to get my money's worth out of their games - and then some! Diablo 2 saved me a small fortune because that's all I played for a few months - and didn't buy one other game during that time.

As I have very little//no money;

$20 -- I will look at these, and if something appears interesting, I will give it a chance. I have found some great games like this.

$30 -- About what I will pay for a big game I want. If it costs much more than this, I will wait until its' price drops.

$40 -- I rarely pay this. it has to be from God himself.

$50 -- Unreal Tournaments will get this much money from me. nothing else.

$60 -- Never

Well I've GOT money, what I've got more of is sense.

$20 - Depends on the game, I've purchased 2 games (Desert Rats and MoonBase Commander) for $19.99 and gotten a lot of enjoyment out of them and a few others that I've played some and put on the "to be traded in " pile.

$30 - What game is it? Is it one I've been waiting for a while for? If not, it'll eventually make it's way down to the $20 and lower level.

$40 - It'll be $20 in 6-8 months I bet.

$50 - It'll be <$20 in 6-10 months or I might be able to find it used.

$60 - who are they kidding? It'll be < $30 in a year or so months.

For Example, Age of Mythology came out November of last year and was priced at $49.99. Now I can pick it up for about $29.99, I saw a special at CompUSA that had it for $19.99.

Warcraft 3 came out last year at $59.99 for the non-collectors editions. Now it's $39.99. I bet after Christmas it'll be around $20 or so.

Console games I rarely buy new. It has to be really, really special (or not really available used) for me to buy it new instead of used.

But would you pay any price knowing that the price WILL go down over time?

That's just a factor of the instant gratification ....err....urge I guess.

Although some people might look at it as paying a tribute to the company for developing a great game.

I look at it as justifying their expensive game development process, something I don't want do. I want them to find a way to develop great games cheaper, make their money through volume.
