Xbox networking card busted, any suggestions?

I finally get Xbox live and go to hook it up and what happens? I get a "no cable connected error".

I try a different cable, but the same thing happens. So the card inside the xbox is obviously shot.

I'm not looking forward to packaging up my Xbox and sending it off for who knows how long to get it fixed. Also, I'm not sure if the warranty still covers it since I've had my Xbox since it hit the market. And I really don't want to have to pay to fix something I've never used before.

Anyone have the same problem? Is it something that I can fix myself? Have people had good/bad experiences with Xbox repair centers?

Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated. I'm just bummed, I was really psyched to play over the net.

did you go to the xbox website and step through the troubleshooter? i had some problems, and stepped through it only to find out it was time warner having problems hooking up with certain microsoft sites.

it sounds like the might be a compatability issue with your modem.

Well I was on the phone with xbox help and they said if a new cable didn't work than it was probably the card in the Xbox itself.

That sucks guy. I feel sorry about your bad luck, have you thought of modding your xbox and replacing the modem?
I dont think this is an option yet though.. You might have to suck it up and send it back to MS.

If you send your box back to MS they wipe your HD. So back up all game saves and such to a Mem Card or frustration may result. BTW, Live is very much worth it. I started as one of the lucky Beta Testers and will happily pay another $50 for my second year of service.

Yeah, I guess I'll have to suck it up and send it back. Thanks for the tip about the hard drive. I certainly didn't want them wiping out my saves.

I know it's probably a dumb question but your using the regular cable and not a cross-over cable, right?

Yeah, the tech at Xbox asked that too. I tried a couple different regular RJ-45 ethernet cables I had, but no luck.
