Anyone know where I could find them?

I would check out Apple ][ emulators or something.

Not entirely sure if you just want old school text games, or if you're looking for text games at all, but I'll jump in.

Go to Baf's Guide To Interactive Fiction: http://www.wurb.com/if/index

Get yerself z-machine interpreter for your machine (I use WinFrotz for my Windows box), and then download some games. Adventure has been ported to the z-machine numerous times, but there are plenty of great new games. Some recommendations of mine would be: Anchorhead, Christminster, and Jigsaw.

I agree with magua, find yourself a z-machine interpreter. But pick up the Zork series if you can, that was always my favorite.

I'd also recommend www.nethack.org. Nethack is an RPG based on Rogue, I believe. It's really a top-down dungeon diving rpg, but the display is made of text characters so it sorta meets your requirements.

Try http://www.the-underdogs.org
They have a rather large database of old games, and often provide links for where the games are downloadable. Careful. though, the page loves its pop-ups.
And just for mrquackers, go to http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?gameid=3487 for Leather Goddesses of Phobos

I remember in high school (80's) there was a "mostly text" game called Crypt of Medea that I played a lot of. If anyone knows where I could find it that would be bitchin.'

An online adventure. Well dragons gate is an online text RPG, you end up having to pay for it since that is really the only way they can ensure that only avid roleplayers will play on it. It ate like a year of my life when it was free on aol

Zork was great!

Got to play on Dungeon one time (the adventure the Zork series was ripped out of)

Really interesting, dead ends in Zork were all connected in Dungeon. Made more sense on how it all fit together.

Yes, the-underdogs is a great place to find abandonware and classic games (I think classicgaming.com has some text based games too). Aside from the ones already mentioned, I recall playing a text based game called Colossal Cave, which is available here that you might enjoy. Have fun!

I've got the source code (Fortran) for Dungeon. The main game became Zork I and Zork II. The End Game became Zork III. I agree, it worked much better as a single game.

Adventure was the greatest game ever, and yup that damn maze always got me, although I did manage to get out of it on a number of occasions by accident

My friend and I actually mapped the maze. We did it by first killing the thief who keeps stealing your stuff, then leaving inventory items laying around like bread crumbs.

I still have my C64 just so I can play the text based games like Zork. A blast from the past.

You might wanna look into some Multi User Dungeons, or MUDS. I used to play one called Lost Souls, its good. Way to fucking addictive though, kinda like Evercrack lite. I think you can find info on it at Lostsouls.org

I fell in love with Zork years ago and I still love all the old Infocom games. I wrote a couple text games of my own too, with the Inform text adventure authoring system which you'll find somewhere in the archive above. Interactive Fiction = teh cool.

Thanks for the link, wondash! I loved Douglas Adams's books, but never heard of this text game. I want to go back and try it out later, when I have time for it! It's bookmarked now - thanks!
