I have played it once, but it was very brief and I didn't really know what to do.

Does the game keep track of users, so that their characters can achieve levels?

Also, how is character creation and development?

I played it many moons ago. I was up to combat level 72 or something. I had really good stats lots of rune money, but then I got bored and the last time I check my charaters broke and begs for money.(gave it away)

what exactly is runescape? MUD? MORG? MORP?

mmorpg. But its graphics are ack. It caught my attention for about a week, but then it got boring.

I play it every once in a while. It gets fairly repetitive, but hey, what can you expect for a semi-free game?
