best fps map ever?
What would you say is the best map ever in a FPS? Take into account the game that is being played (for example, if UT had a really good map, but it sucked because of the weapons avalible, etc.. don't say it is the best map, this is from a game play point of view)
I am thinking of some maps from tactical ops, or from wolf.. But I have yet to narrow it down |

Quake II - The Edge (Q2DM1) - nothing beats that map.
Quake III - The Longest Yard (Q3DM17) - a close second. |

It has got to be scoutzknivez. I've had hours of fun on that - in lans, on pubs, anything. Great all around map.
For more serious gaming though, dust always hit the spot for me. |

I'd have to say Bocage for Battlefield 1942, Desert Combat or regular version. That map is genious. They should rename Battlefield 1942 to "Bocage 1942, and miscellaneous other maps."

I dunno about greatest but awp_map is definetely the worst.
If this isn't limited to computer games, which I don't think it is, TimeSplitters had pretty much all great maps. And Goldeneye's Facility. |

Well, originally all i played was Goldeneye, back in the day of the 64 and not having a computer, so i am with TheClackster, facility was a very nice map, also Stack was another biggy.

I like Dust, Militia, Rats, Aztec and Scoutsknives in CS.
For some old school fun try Blastside/Broadside on ultra renegades Tribes. |
Starwars2a for Counterstrike
Crossfire for HL Complex for Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and Jedi Knight(My friend made it in there, very accurate). |
Stockyard for half life... I've had many a lan party where this map has dominated a good 6 hours.
fy_pool_day for CS. Not that many know about this map...but its fun as hell. Try it out, you might like it, might not. Its different you could say- less strategy, more killage. |

dust1 is hellspawn if Tside players are good.
Team/Strat maps gotta be de_cpl_fire and de_dust2 I havent gotten bored w/ cs enough to try any other FPS 'cept Enemy Territory :) |
definately CS maps, i like the dusts but i reckon de_cbble is the best.
some UT maps are awesome to look at but i dont like the ut style of play. |
Most CS maps apart from a few, and Blood Gulch on Halo.

blood gultch and chillout (both on halo) are awesome, and i agree with TheClarkster, facility was THE multiplayer map on goldeneye. 2fort and de_dust are good too.

Add me to the q2dm1 - The Edge fan club. I loved q2dm5 as well. And yes, Stellar Cow was a fun, fun custom map.
In Quake 3, none of the maps were nearly as memorable or fun as the Q2 ones, but I spent a lot of time on q3dm17. |

mp_assault in RTCW. Man we had some great matches on that map. q2dm1 was an awesome map too. For q3, there was a little known mod called "alliance" that had some outstanding maps. Cement, Concrete, and Stone has to be up there as one of the top 3 maps of all time. |

I haven't played in a long while, but definately UT Facing Towers (I think that's what it's called, if not, that's pretty much what it is).
All time greatest fun I ever had especially with low gravity, instagib. Nothing has ever been more fun (in my opinion.) |

I just thought of this. No one has mentioned any Tribes maps. Wow, Broadside and uhh, hmm, I forgot the other name, had a tower that either team could control in the center...anywho, those were great great maps for a great great game. It's a shame Tribes 2 couldn't match up. I guess the same goes for Q3 compared to Q2.

I can't remember the exact map name, but it was Team Fortress for Quake. The map had two big rooms seperated by an entrance between them. It was closed for like 30-60 seconds so you could build sentry guns and stuff... then the doors opened up and each team went at the other's neck. Oh, the memories of carnage...

Q2DM1. It was so well done. Lot of fun to play on that map. It's the only maps I still sometimes play on with bots.

There was this user-made map for Unreal once called "Zeitgeist" and it was the best, most ingrossing urban map I've ever played on. A real masterpiece.

Takes the real Valve guys to make something this good, and I'm glad they chipped on. Truely a work of art, visuals match gameplay. Same story for the Valve maps on CS, they are VERY well done. Chateau, Piranesi (Dont really like the Havana one.. too dark or something) But, I think they have too many routes, and the average CS player can't handle too much thought at once, so they werent very popular with the community. :crazy: Theres a one official Q3 map that I love also, lots of levels and the flow is great. Cant remember the name though. Being a mapper myself though, I feel this thread is pretty 'open' as you didnt really specify what makes a 'best map' be it looks, or gameplay, or both, etc. |

De_dust and fy_iceworld are both quality. Then there is Blood Gulch for Halo and Mp_Beach in RTCW. Can't think of too many more but UT2k3 had some really beautiful map designs too.

Well, for starters, the worst maps ever are AWP_MAP and DOD_HILL for odvious reasons. The true, undesputed, king of all maps.....DOD-CAEN! It's fair and balanced.... unlike Fox News.

No one's mentioned McKinley's Base from Quake 1 CTF. There was a remake in Quake2, but I'm partial to the first one. Anyone remember it?
