Gaming headset?
I seem to have a problem destroying gaming headsets with mics.. I need a mic for most of my online gaming, and it seems that since the headset is usually just resting on the tower when not in use, and occasionally yanked out of the headphone jack when I forget about it and stand up, they get torn apart. Then people start complaining about not being able to hear me, and my sound starts to get spotty or the earpads rip off.
I've not tried many of the ones that completely surround your ear because they always feel like they're crushing my head, something I can't stand for a long time while playing games. Any recommendations? I am willing to invest $80 or less into something that might last me a while.. |
Nobody uses headsets. I see how it is. ! :)

Not only do we not use headsets, but we don't like you. ;)
Sorry, I have nothing else to offer. If I did, I would. I'm not really the shy sort. I am, however, the smartass sort. |
LOVE! they made a new version of this.... but find it. it is very sturdy and durable. I do the same thing forget it's on and walk away with it. Cat seems to like to eat it... etc. I think the new one is this one... |
Don't think I have much more to offer but my solution to use a mic and still get the most out of my 5.1 surround PC speakers was to route all game sound to the speakers and then all voice com to one of these...
I just wish they weren't getting harder and harder to find. But a USB headset plus an extension usb cord makes ripping them out of the plug less likely to happen, at least in my case. |
logitech is good, middle of the road, bang for your buck, kind of thing. that's what was recommended to me when i got mine.

I got one of these a few weeks ago and absolutely love it:
HeadRush Communication Vibration Headset Price: $49.99 Cdn Manufacturer: HEADRUSH The HeadRushcommunication vibration headset is a multi-featured PC headset perfect for gaming and communication. Equipped with a vibration function it adds more excitement during your action pack games and movies. The cushioned ear pads, fully adjustable headband size, and microphone position make it comfortable to wear for long periods. The built-in microphone switch lets you decide when people hear you and when they don't; simply switch off if you want radio silence, and switch back on when you need to communicate. It comes with easy-to-access controls on the in-line control box so you can easily adjust the volume or vibration to suit your preference. The HeadRush communication headset is powered through USB connection or 2 AAA batteries (not included). |
If you already have a nice set of headphones already, Zalman has a clip-on mic that is compatible with any headphone. It plugs into the mic slot and clips onto the headphone cord, or your shirt.
Works great with my ATH-a900 and a900Ti. ---------- Post added at 05:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:20 PM ---------- Quote:
Speakerwise, the other main option at that price are Klipsch ProMedia (2.1 or 5.1). Logitech has a heavy muddy bass, which works for games and movies. Not so much for music, but that depends on your tastes in music and opinions in sound. Klipsch is more traditional with their builds, coming from a music/home theater background. They are overall better for music, and have more detailed sounds. The bass works, but does not have as much sheer power as Logitech. Both are solid, I believe Logitech has been putting out more and more speaker systems while Klipsch has stuck with just a few core products for computers. Yes, I've had both. I ended up upgrading for music purposes, audio can get expensive. |
I just got some x41 wireless headsets and they are great so far (once you work out wi-fi interference). Though those are really designed for the xbox 360. I wouldn't get them unless you are looking for something for your 360 and need wireless range like I do.

My buddy got the turtle beach's, i played cod with them once and they were pretty amazing, the bullets wizzing by my ears were pretty sweet hah

i use an xbox 360 live.. mine is an older wireless one kinda looks like the defiant off deep space 9. But with 5 kids, its a life saver to keep up with and such. I don't have to worry about a cord. I get up alot and i would yank out stuff doing that or such. Now, i just have to worry about keeping it charged. Though, its for an xbox which i have.. it will works fine on the pc.
