free mmorpg: Runes of Magic
With my disapointment in what warhammer online turned into and the awful gameplay from aion i have been looking for a new mmorpg and found one that looks like it could be pretty fun. Crazy thing is its a free to play game.
You can spend money on it to make things easier easier upgrades for gear and stuff like that. But if your on a budget or just not happy with the standard pay to play games. The game is called runes of magic. Runes of Magic - Homepage thats the website if anyone wants to take a look. Has a nice duel class system and apparently they plan a free expansion every few months. Graphics may not be the best But the game play has more to it then a lot of mmorpgs. Just thought i would point it out in case anyone else is sick of the other mmorpgs out there. |
I've been checking this out the last couple days. I like it so far. Thanks
|
Installing now. I'll update with how I like it.
|
I'll bite and download it, I don't have any new torrents to use, so why the fuck not.
Post later about it. |
Ok time for a report-in. Graphics are way above average for a free MMO. Controls are very good, exactly like WoW. UI is good. Actually the whole game is a blatant WoW ripoff. And when I say blatant, I mean fucking blatant. Everything from the graphics to the models to the UI to the quest and character screen are just like WoW. I love the character customization, way better than WoW's actually.
I'm not sure if I'll play it or not because it's so much like WoW that I feel like I've already played it. This has nothing to do with the game however so I will definitely give it a positive first impressions review. |
downloading now!
|
Just by looking at the screenshots, I can see that it looks almost 100% identical to WoW. Not saying it's a bad thing. As a matter of fact, that might convince me to try it. Just sayin...I think it's kind of funny.
|
Lasereth and I played it for a short while last night. Its resemblance to WoW is simply uncanny - to the point of Lasereth and I questioning whether or not to get too much into it because of a lawsuit on the horizon. I mean this game is absolutely identical.
Will try to play more tonight! |
I've been looking for something like wow but NOT wow. If this is as similar as this, it may be my new mmorpg.
I say, lawsuit or not, get into it. Hell, it's free, what could you lose? I'm going to install the download today. |
Really the only thing that's subpar of WoW are the animations. You can tell the difference between Blizzard and the developers of this game.

Apparently there's item shops where you pay for things with real money. Nothing new there. Other mmorpgs have that set up.
* * * * Oh...and I might try this game too. |
I haven't gotten that far into it yet but from what I have picked up you spend real money for one of the in-game currencies called diamonds. You can spend them at the item shop or apparently sell them at the auction house for gold. I haven't looked at the item shop yet but apparently you can buy longer lasting mounts and runes that let you do all kinds of things to items, reset your training points, change your secondary class, or that kind of stuff.

any feedback on any kind of battlegrounds or pvp?

ok, i dloaded and installed it the last day, and when i get home from work im trying it. so far from what i've read...
1) in pvp, you lose 2 items from your inventory if you are killed. there are binding spells or scrolls or something that you can use to keep this from happening to your prized items. 2) from what i gleaned from the forums, mage priest and rogue are the most powerful classes. 3) Indigo is their newest pvp server. Grimdal is an older one that apparently has a lot of action and griefing currently going on . I'm gonna try out Grimdal, i'll let you know what i think |
I installed this a few weeks ago and didn't like it. Way too much like a poor man's WoW to me. Looks like WoW or Guild Wars would have to suffice for my MMO fix.
|
I downloaded and installed this yesterday... Couldn't get my mouse to work in the game for some reason.
Or more appropriately: My mouse worked, I just don't see the pointer on the screen. I also can only seem to play in windowed mode. Anybody else have this happen to them? |
Quick review: I like it. I've only played for about an hour or two, but I'm down for a MMORPG that I can play casually and not pay for. Wow sucks me in to fast, I can't play it casually. I think to myself, just some pvp and maybe some casual raiding, then I'm raiding 4 nights a week and calling in sick to work.
Poor man's WoW? Yes please. Feels like Wal-Mart WoW to me, I can dig that. ***** Anyone up for doing some quests and such together? I'm not sure how grouping/parties work on here, but I'm down for some questing together. |

I was in a party briefly last night. It's similar to WoW. (Surprised?) Not sure about questing, as I didn't do much in a party. I wouldn't mind hooking up with some TFPers in this game for some casual gaming. I'm thinking of starting another new character—a priest...I'm a healer at heart. I'm just glad they can use shields in this game. Did you get your player house yet? I got mine! Too bad I can't afford much furniture yet. If we form a guild, we can get our own fort! We will call it "Tilted Towers"! |
i've been on grimdal, the established pvp server. i got a rogue to level 9 so far. it's fun. well, questing is anyway. i haven't used any talent points yet, but i'm doing just fine against up to 2 or 3 mobs at a time. i like the quest log. i have no clue about pvp yet.
anyway, i'd be happy to roll on another server and join up if the timeframes synch. i work 8am-3pm pst and then im pretty free rest of the week. post the consensus here and ill find you. |
Sounds like fun. what server are yall on? Ill DL it.

They have houses?? That's an old UO thing. Dude, I'm down for forming a TFP guild. |

And I'm just messing around too. I have a paladin on a PVE server. I really want to create a priest on a PVP server. Maybe Grimdal. Stay tuned...I'll let you know when I get started and where. |

Cool. I'm surprised I haven't heard of this. Downloading it. Will probably play it eventually.
On another note, with all the mentioning of getting an RPG type fix, yall should give old school pen and paper RPGs a shot (ala dungeons and dragons). At first when I started playing 3 or 4 years ago it was just OK to good, but then I found a cool group of people and realized how much of a difference playing with good friends means. Now I'm in two different groups of DnD playing twice a week. It is 10x better than any MMORPG (and I've been playing em for just over a decade) I have ever played. |
Zeraph, I play MMORPGs BECAUSE I can't find a good group of people to play D&D with. If I could, I would.
|
That sucks. I know how that is, before my current groups I had trouble finding ones near me too.

The name "Baraka" was already taken (fucking imposter), so you may find me as "Barakaenous" instead (yes, pronounced "barak-anus"). I hope to see you (and others) on! |

I just made a knight on Grimdal named Themightybob
|
I was looking into guilds. It's 100,000 gold and 4 people to get started. It shouldn't take too long because I already have nearly 10,000 gold after a night's play.
Oh, and you should see me. I look pretty bad-ass with my cudgel in one hand, and a unicorn horn in the other. |
Okay im in too. helluva download. Im a chick magic user. Femaelstrom. And I got a big staff. Maybe I should have named myself Hermaphrodite.

You can also try craigslist, or go to a local game shop and ask them if they have a bulletin board. Most do and I've found several games over the years that way as local groups will put up a note advertising that they're looking for more. |
if you want a quick starting nut of gold, grab herbalism right away and farm up a stack of 100 "mountain demon grass". even though it's all over the villages and newb areas, it sells for 60,000 gold.
|
So how is everybody liking the new race & classes so far?
I've only tried the Warden, and got to lvl 5 without actually entering combat (too many quests to start with) Seems like a nice idea so far. If I pair it up with a warrior or rogue class, I should have quite a bit of fun with it... |
Trying it; it's patching atm. Going to roll on grimdal, everyone still there? Thinking of a mage with either priest or druid as secondary.
Edit: had fun leveling up to 11 on a mage, then came the "secondary" class: eewww. You have to completely relevel it from the beginning but with your main's quests and items taking up space. I'm also not even sure if you can do the same quests you did on your main which may mean grinding. So I have to level through everything twice for a few extra skills...that's lame as hell. Unless I'm missing something I'm not sure I'll be playing anymore. |

I'm a 6 mage/12 priest, which means my current primary is mage, though I started as a priest. I can switch back whenever I want if I want to tap into my priest primary powers. For now, I have mage primary powers and priest secondary powers. This adds an interesting strategic element to the game, which I like. I can be more of a blaster with some healing capabilities, or I can switch to a main healer and have some electricity up my sleeve. The same goes with the other classes: a primary set and a subset of powers. If you're a paladin, pick up scout for some ranged abilities. If you're a warrior, pick up rogue to tap into critical strikes and other nasty skills....etc., etc. So as you go along, you can switch back and forth for different play styles and to level up each class. It's up to you how you distribute your powers. You can see what sort of abilities you have coming down the road. |
i really am thinking about trying this out.
