The future of Gaming: Augmented Reality

So, We had the future of gaming where we talked about cloud computing. Now, Let's discuss Augmented reality.. Check it.

AR has been around for a while now. It's the imaginary first down lines in Football broadcasts and the glowing hockey pucks and the Car displays in Nascar.

Advertisers are playing with it already:

...and of course the Japanese have made something perverted using the technology..

It's kind of like that Roddy Piper movie where you put on some special sunglasses and you can see who the aliens really are. Personally, I think it'd make for a freaking awesome tabletop RPG game. Especially if they get it set up for multiplayer. Oh man..

This could take laser tag to the next level. Imagine entire arenas set up that are rigged as AR templates. You could fight other teams or even AI. You could play games like capture the flag, or simulate counter strike scenarios. Paintball is fun and all, but this seems like a different flavor. Imagine being able to fight monsters and shit in a virtual reality. This can be huge if it is funded properly.

Forget the arena; set it up on the streets! Imagine running around through alleys shooting virtual monsters that jump out of actual doorways. There's also potential for live Art installations, interior decorating, theatre, TFP Meetups and who knows what else.

William Gibson's book Spook Country features this kind of technology, although not Gaming exactly.

That's where my mind was going... A kind of unconstrained holodeck...

The AR technology should merge with the PC Game Gun tech..

Um, a similar game has been out for over a year now. Called The Eye of Judgment on PS3, but it's more of a card battle game with online multiplayer.
