lost Quake CD's
 

grrr, I just got a new PC and I can't find my old Q1 and Q3A game CD's :confused:

just wondering what the deal is with used games and the CD key, I don't want to torrent it...or buy it cause I KNOW the damn cd's are here somewhere. I found the case...empty :shakehead: I found all the Q2 games and add on's

It's pretty basic. If the game requires a key and you don't have one, you're pretty much screwed. If you can't find the install cd(s) then you are pretty much screwed. If you have the manuals or cd cases you might be able to work something out with the game publisher, but I doubt it.

yeah...I'm worried if I buy a used game even with the Cd key it will ping id software as already registerd.

I would most recommend simply buying a new copy, it will only be 5 or 10 bucks. If you're only playing in single player mode you don't need to worry about duplicate keys on old used games. Another option if you already have paid for the game is to crack the copy protection, usually pretty easy for an old game like quake. If you don't know how to use a debugger you can usually find a keygen and/or a cracked executable, which will typically come with a torrent release. In this case I highly recommend antivirus because many keygens and cracked releases come with nasties. Legally, it's a gray area, you already own a license to the game but it's usually illegal to copy or crack it even so. Morally I don't see a big problem.

well I think I'm gonna buy Quake Trilogy, I didn't know they made this compilation edition. I'll end up with 2 copies of QII but your right they are cheap.

ya know I like Q3A for the maps I get off LVL and I like to re skin the players too. not so much for online play. I guess I'm a bot playing wimp really. so I don't think I can do that with Quake live.

I found Quake Trilogy for $12 so I went with it. my original CD's will show up in a day or two now that I bought them again :rolleyes:

I don't recommend googling keygens. More often NASTY viruses than what you're looking for.

You could buy the id superpack on steam. Then you'll no longer have to worry about CD keys and crap. And you'll get the Doom Trilogy as well as the entire Quake series, Wolfenstein games, the Hexen games (never tried em), and a couple other things.
EDIT:
That last link was a lot of money($70), and maybe you don't care for DOOM, or Wolfenstein, and other stuff.
They have the Quake Pack for $30.
