Mount and Blade a Sandbox RTS/RPG in Medival Europe
Has anyone tryed this game yet?
There's a 400mb demo on their website: Mount&Blade You start out as a person with a sword and a horse, attacking looters and saving/looting villages, and you eventually grow in power to where you command your forces to seige castles and wage war against the other kingdoms in a medival nonfantasy setting. Here's a few videos: And those most interesting thing about this game is that it was made by two people in Turkey! |
I love this game but to really get the full benefit of it, you need some mods. Without them, there's no real storyline or ways to effectively control or create a kingdom/empire. They also add a lot of different units, weapons, armor, quests etc. My favorite ones are Calradia at War and Native Expansion. Couched lance is still overpowered though.

I tried it out but was afraid to get into it (i.e. fork over the money to buy it). I might just wait until the expansion is released this fall. They're supposed to be redoing the graphics and adding to the game's AI and diplomacy, all the while adding a multiplayer component.
Maybe I'll play the demo a bit more to really get a feel for it. I liked the combat gameplay on horseback; it had a cool feel to it...if not a bit of a learning curve. The momentum of the horse seems well done (especially compared to World of Warcraft's grossly unrealistic mount physics). |
I liked it, easy to get into, but I'm with B_G in that I'll wait for the expansions before I drop the money. One thing I didn't like, hopefully it will get fixed, is when you speak to someone, you can only ask where the nobility is. I spent half the demo wandering into half the villages trying to track down some ruffian a lord had tasked me to find.
