Recommended GBA Games?

Tomorrow I will probably be purchasing a GBA SP, and I thought I'd have you guys help me out and recommend some good games for it.

What games have you tried and liked?

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, is really good. wario ware is a good 6 hours of fun. but then it dies out. i got the Phantasy Star Collection because i beat them along time ago, and wanted to relive the memorys :D

rockzilla 06-30-2003 01:01 PM

Castlevania : Aria of Sorrow and Harmony of Dissonance are both excellent. I've been playing a lot of Advance Wars 2 recently. Still holding my breath for Final Fantasy Tactics Advance though.

GakFace 06-30-2003 08:04 PM

GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN,GOLDEN SUN

Did I over do it? I've put over 40 hours in that game.. sure everyone is lvl 40, but damn.... its an AWESOME Console RPG.

Oh, and then there is GOLDEN SUN TWO!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Metroid: Fusion is great as well. Only ones I have at the moment.

diergray 06-30-2003 08:25 PM

Advance Wars 1 and 2. Great fun and with a SP you will be able to actually see the game!

dvorak 06-30-2003 08:54 PM

the games i own and still play quite often are Metroid Fusion, Advance Wars, Warioware, Inc., and Super Mario Advance: Yoshi's Island (this last one because I never played it on the SNES).

From what I hear, all the games recommended above are widely considered great games (Golden Sun, Castelvania, etc.)

Gman 06-30-2003 09:04 PM

Let's see.....

-Metroid Fusion
-Advance Wars
-Any Tetris Game you can find
-Yu-Gi-Oh World Wide Edition (It really is fun if you can look past the kid stuff)
-Pokemon Ruby (Same here too)
-Mario Advance: Mario World
Yoshi's Island
SMB 3 (when it comes out)
-Legend of Zelda : Link to the Past
- Megaman Zero

redrum 06-30-2003 11:50 PM

Anything Zelda, hands down.

rockzilla 07-01-2003 12:57 AM

Totally forgot metroid fusion, only because it was the closest thing to castlevania I could find while waiting for Aria of Sorrow.

Magpie0001 07-01-2003 10:41 AM

Most have been said allready so I guess Ill reinforce,

Metroid is mad mental
Advance wars 2 is out (I loved 1)
Castlevania
THe Zeldas rule too.
Wario/Mario/Yoshi
Golden Sun
Im hakkin my way through the new Pokemon as we speak.

elaphe 07-01-2003 01:52 PM

Went out and got me a used Doom cartridge. Brings back many memories playing on my 486 dx! It's the only game in my GBA SP now.

Old school rocks!

FunHater 07-01-2003 03:49 PM

Golden Sun, Mega Man Battle Network

Agreed! Since the GBA SP is backwards compatible you may want to try these 2 GB Color games also:

Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons

Also be sure to check out IGN's Ten Big GBA Games of 2003

oscar0308 07-02-2003 04:36 AM

i dont own a GBA, but use the emul on my computer.. and i've also got about 200 games that i've tried out. advance wars i loved and was getting pretty far until i saved the game at the title shot instead of loading my save game about 10 hrs in. i gave up after that. i've got AW2 and cant wait to start it. i've also been engrossed by Pokemon:Sapphire. dunno why, its just cool too see all those different kinds of 'monsters'. i also like Medabots, but i think i ran into a bug and gave up. its pretty similar to pokemon with you gathering a small force to fight others. i fooled around with the Yu-Gi-Oh series too and liked that, but couldnt figure out for the life of me how to play the dice one.

TerresqueÜ 07-02-2003 04:57 AM

Time Splitters 2 is great fun when you have a lot of people to play.

Pyrate 07-02-2003 05:12 AM

Try Dodgeball Advance. May not be your thing, but I found it damn entertaining.

I'm always accidentally saving at the title screen instead of loading up.

I fell your pain brother, I feel your pain.

Antagony 07-02-2003 08:36 AM

Thanks for the recommendations, guys! I looked up just about every game mentioned in here and they all look pretty good.

Anyway, I ended up going with Advance Wars 2. Wow, it's a total blast.

I'm going to borrow the Castlevania games from a friend (I really love the franchise).

As for Golden Sun, I'm probably going to borrow the first one from a friend and then purchase the second one.

I may nerd out and get one of the new Pokemon games at some point.

Oh, and FF Tactics for GBA will certainly be a good buy when it comes out.

cockmonger 07-02-2003 11:00 AM

Megaman Zero
Magaman Zero 2 (when it comes out)
Warioland 4(damn fun!)
Super Mario World (mario advance 2)
and of coarse the best GBA game ever:
Metroid Fusion!

mrquackers 07-02-2003 04:16 PM

WarioWare!

Seriously. Best GBA game I've ever played. Creative. Hilarious. And a game you can play for 30 seconds or an hour and have the same level of enjoyment.

CBlend 07-03-2003 07:46 PM

Glad you got Advance Wars 2. I love it!

Also look into getting Wario Ware and the Zelda Oracle of Ages/Seasons games. All of those are lots of fun, too!

analinguist 07-03-2003 09:31 PM

i liked warioland and yoshi's island 2. they aren't as nerdy.

kod 07-04-2003 08:37 PM

Watch out for phantasy star collection - it's worth having for phantasy star II alone, but there's a save bug that will eat saved games for phantasy star I.

Jack Ruby 07-05-2003 02:23 AM

Get Super Mario 3 for GBA when it comes out. I think they're calling it Super Mario Advance 4... SMB3 is still my favourite game ever.

BuddyHawks 10-17-2003 12:39 PM

No one mentioned Rayman Advanced. A fun platfom game with some of the best graphics for the GBA.

IckUber 10-17-2003 02:12 PM

Even though you requested this like 4 months ago, Final Fantasy Tactics.

MacGnG 10-18-2003 07:49 PM

Z told me to get metroid fusion, so i did, its kinda tought but so awesome

yoshi's island looks like SNES.....

WhoaitsZ 10-19-2003 07:58 AM

MF, golden sun!!!, the three castlevanias, zeldas, tactics ogre,

golden sun is blowing me away. it is good, can't wait to star gs2

Lasereth 10-19-2003 01:33 PM

I just finished Advance Wars on GBA. That game is AMAZING! It's the first GB game I've ever gotten into big time. I've now started Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. My girlfriend says Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow is awesome; it got great reviews.

-Lasereth

TrogDor 10-19-2003 09:32 PM

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance is one of the best games I've ever played. If you likfe RPG's, GET THIS GAME.

battlemouth 10-19-2003 10:52 PM

advanced wars 2 cause you get all the maps from 1 on it

WinterScar 10-21-2003 01:43 AM

So far, I've only got the two latter Castlevania games, Mario Kart Super Circuit and Super Mario Advance 4. I'm dying to get Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (one of the reasons why I bought the damned thing), Sword of Mana and... well, there are always some good games available at reasonable prices!

BuddyHawks 10-21-2003 11:19 AM

Would you recomend playing Advanced Wars 1 before playing 2?

Brest 10-22-2003 08:49 AM

Blargh! I don't know why I even bother with these kinds of games any more but people kept saying Golden Sun was good so I bought it....

Why?

WHYYY!??!

For god sakes man it is like every other japacrap, cookie cutter rpg out there! The only part with any hint of good ole rpg fun in it is the boss battles. But those are so few and far between that its mindboggling. 3 minutes of fun fighting an epic boss battle after eighty frikkin bajillion "so-easy-they're-non-toxic" fighting filler, and those gawd awful puzzles. I didn't buy the "101 Puzzles for Grandpa Pak" I bought an rpg, goddamnit. Don't get me started on golden sun in particular's translation. Lets stick to exporting anime and manga from Japan, ok? I just don't understand why FF games beyond the early, classic ones from snes (nostalgia works wonders) and all of their clones are supposed to be fun. Maby it's just because I was raised with the Fallout and Baldurs Gate series.

Golden Sun blows, silly consol users.

So, is FF tactics like that? Please say no because my GBA is the only thing I have to get me through the day away from my computer.

Advance Wars 2 kicks butt. (I own it, I know)

dy156 10-22-2003 12:35 PM

I only have 3 games, but I like them all.
The mario game that came with it and was just like my old mario game when I was little;
Lord of the Rings-The Two Towers -kinda like a simplified Diablo clone, but really alot of fun
and of course, the latest version of Madden football, where unlike the real NFL 2004, Michael Vick and Tampa Bay are awesome. Funny how fast something can become dated.

Grondar 10-22-2003 12:40 PM

I gotta recommend any Super Mario game, especially if they look identical to their 16 bit relatives.

Man, just thinking back on my days playing Mario Brothers at a friends makes me smiles. Those games were kickin'!

Scorpion23 10-23-2003 08:04 AM

As said earlier, Golden Sun 1&2, and Metroid Fusion are the best.

The Geek 10-23-2003 10:50 AM

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance

halfshot182 10-23-2003 07:09 PM

castlevania is just awesome as is metroid fusion. id recommend at least one of those if not both...

I wasn't very impressed with Golden Sun either, but I'm a little obsessed with FFTA, but a lot of that was from addiction to the Final Fantasy Tactics on PS-1. If I were you, and you alone, I would borrow it first before you buy it Brest. Just in case you might not like it. :)

Lasereth 10-25-2003 07:03 PM

I'm currently playing Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, and I can honestly say that Advance Wars is the better game. When it comes to portable strategy games, I'm not sure any game can compare to Advance Wars on the GBA. I'm a HUGE Final Fantasy Tactics fan, but FFTA simply isn't as fun as Advance Wars. Maybe it'll get better.

BuddyHawks 10-25-2003 07:16 PM

I just saw a commercial for Super Mario Bros. 3 for GBA. I dont know how impressive NES graphics would look on the GBA, but it's still bound to be fun.
On the advice of you guys, imma gonna get Advanced Wars, and if I like it, AW2.
