WoW - WotLK Release Date 11/13/08

The WoW front page Wrath of the Lich King In Stores 11.13.08

snowy 09-15-2008 01:54 PM

I'm waiting to see what stores in my area do a midnight release; last time I had to drive to the next town over to go to GameStop. One of our general merchandise/grocery stores has been getting into doing pre-orders and midnight releases since then, so I'm hoping they'll do it, because they're only a 1/2 mile away versus 10.

Dragonknight 09-15-2008 08:48 PM

Ahh hell I won't get this for like month after it comes out....grrr. I hope they push it back so i can get it when it come back lol.

Catdaddy33 09-16-2008 04:02 AM

I'm glad this is a Thursday release instead of the Tuesday release BC was. I already have Friday as a company holiday (Veterians Day) so I can take Thursday as well and have a nice long weekend to enjoy it. My daughter wants to stay home from school on one of those days, I told her if I see all A's and she doesnt have any major tests or assignments due, we'll see what we can work out.

The last release the Gamestop near my house was packed, and was nice to see all ages of WoW players in my area, of course the odds on one of them being on the Icecrown Realm is like 1 in 200..but nice to see anyways..

Cynthetiq 09-16-2008 04:19 AM

nice... i'm going to have to let Skogafoss know that we're going to be booked for a spell.

I'm also going to have to restart playing around October so that I shed the rustiness of not playing for a year.

Halx 09-16-2008 06:45 AM

These things are very bad for my WoW sobriety.

ironpham 09-16-2008 09:26 AM

You can do it, Hal. I believe in you. Stay off the crack.

Stare At The Sun 09-17-2008 12:23 AM

I just hope it doesn't get pushed back!

Lasereth 09-17-2008 09:39 AM

It won't get pushed back. What people fail to realize is that Blizzard games take forever to release but they almost never get delayed. Once a release date is announced it's gonna launch that day.

Catdaddy33 09-18-2008 03:59 AM

Not to mention they have to send the final version to be duplicated and distributed, and the volume they will sell it would have to be at 30 days in advance of the release date. And what Lasereth said, it's Blizzard unless something goes horribly wrong they wont push a release date..

Ya.. Diablo II wasn't pushed back or delayed at all. hehe.

Anyways.. I already pre-ordered my Collector's Edition. You could only pre-order them for 2 days! They went that fast! Craziness I tell you. Anyways, can't wait for it. Will be great to finally get some new content.

highdro69 09-19-2008 12:49 AM

but hey, if you like doing said same thing, that's cool, have fun!

lagoonguy 09-19-2008 06:07 AM

heh i hope the pre-ordering doesn't get messed up. if i pre-order i don't want to show up and the line be too long and i don't get mine.

Frosstbyte 09-19-2008 08:58 AM

Playing TBC is completely different than playing vanilla WoW, and I have every expectation that WotLK will be just as different from TBC. Other than some baseline aspects which are inherent to all video games, the expansions completely changes how the games work and are played. If it doesn't appeal to you, great, but don't come to a WoW related thread just to tell us we're wasting our time.

snowy 09-19-2008 09:03 AM

My boyfriend got a beta key yesterday. Don't know what that means for the release date, but he's really excited about it. It took all of yesterday evening to download, and he hasn't gotten a chance to play it yet. I'm sure it's torturing him while he's at work.

Quoted for truth.

onesnowyowl: Ya I bet your boyfriend is dying at work, heh. I didn't get into the beta, but that's perfectly fine by me, gives me more time to focus on getting more end-game content done and get my factions all exalted. Let's not forget professions as well. :) So much to do, so little time.

yea, not really.
and i never insulted anyone and never said anyone was wasting their time by playing the game. the jpg was a joke.
wow is a really fun game, simply repetitive.

Wunder 09-19-2008 06:20 PM

I think pretty much all MMORPG's are repetitive to be honest. Go do that one thing to kill that one guy and get the reward from it, rinse and repeat. I mean if you think about it, they're all pretty linear when you break it down. I just like WoW because the story you get with it all makes me feel like I'm actual accomplishing something. I do quests just to see where the story goes, hehe.

Lasereth 09-20-2008 06:59 AM

TBC totally and completely changed WoW. I was honestly shocked at how different TBC was. I thought the expansion was downright amazing, particularly the beautiful zones created in the outlands. They are all so wildly different and vast and well-designed. I imagine WotLK will be the same.

Catdaddy33 09-22-2008 04:22 AM

One of the biggest problems with TBC was Hellfire was packed for weeks after release, even though spawn rates were changed to be more dynamic it was way to crowded. This time around they made 2 starting areas which should hopefully ease that problem somewhat.

Well done expansions in any game have the drawback that people tend to move toward the new zones which leaves the old zones underpopulated. I loved running the 55+ classic WoW instances as people moved into TBC finding a same level group for those instances was much more difficult.

Deltona Couple 09-22-2008 04:49 AM

So here is something that might be interesting, How about everyone post what Realms they belong to?

Dragonblight realm here.
Shalladon is the toon!

Catdaddy33 09-22-2008 06:30 AM

Icecrown but I have one slot open and reserved for my Death Knight, so I will need to find a alt realm for more alts...

snowy 09-22-2008 07:01 AM

I've been looking over my SO's shoulder at the beta and it looks really nifty! One of the small changes I'm really looking forward to is the vanity pet screen. I love vanity pets, and I've collected quite a few, but I couldn't have too many due to bag space. Now that won't be an issue. Same with mounts--I'm kind of a mount whore. My boyfriend is really excited about the new battlegrounds.

I'm torn between two servers when the expansion comes out, and it will depend on my SO and roommate as to where I end up playing the most. My main is Firina on Tichondrius, but I'm not sure we'll be on there much as my boyfriend more or less quit raiding, and his guild is one of the top raiding guilds on Tich. My co-main is Idriliel on Llane, and I suspect we'll be on there more.

Deltona Couple 09-23-2008 06:45 AM

I was thinking, Lord knows that is dangerous, but what about those of up from TFP all roll DKs on the same realm....might be an interesting time...lol.

nomcat 09-24-2008 07:43 PM

Damn.... grrr.... fighting the urge to ressurect my Shadowpriest...

Catdaddy33 09-25-2008 04:03 AM

Speaking of the Death Knight, that start at lvl 55. I have a fear that they will implement a "pre-made character" starting point at like level 30, 40, or 50 at some point in the future. The recruit a friend and its 3x XP bonus is bad enough with people that don't know how to play their class, but I hope they don't cave in and allow pre-mades..

When Death Knight was first announced didn't they say it would be an option only upon reaching level 80? I'm not sure if I dreamed that or not. I do think 55 is to low it should at least be 70.

hulk 09-25-2008 04:24 AM

You dreamed it. 55 is more or less a midway point in leveling time, and really the fuss about 70s not knowing their class hardly stems from quick leveling - bad PUGs have existed forever! Besides, the difference in optimum playstyle between leveling and the endgame is great enough, in most cases, to be just about relearning your class (which takes all of a week, unless you have a learning difficulty).

As I understand it, the only way to unlock DK's is by doing a chain of quests that require you to be at least level 70. Not sure if that is correct, though.

Lasereth 09-25-2008 06:09 AM

One thing I learned from playing WoW for so long is that a bad WoW player will always be a bad WoW player. Some people just suck at videogames. Some people hate paying attention to detail. Some people just want to ride around IF on their mount and suck at anything else in the game. A lot of the 70s that suck are just bad players and will get epics based on other people's skill.

Absolutely 100% incorrect. When they first announced death knights, there was a lot of community speculation that a question would be required to "unlock" the class because, at the time, it was believed that you would have to convert one of your old characters into a death knight. When they revealed that DKs would start as new, different characters, people clung to the quest chain unlock for non-specific reasons.

To get a death knight out into the world (of Warcraft) all you have to do is 1) have A character at level 55 or above on the server you wish to create the death knight and 2) finish all the death knight prequests from Ebon Hold. Simple as that.

Oh wow, thanks for clarifying that for me :)

pretty much except i thought you had to have a level 70 character before you could make a DK, instead of the level 55 that is actually required.

Apokx 09-25-2008 10:07 AM

A 55 on any server unlocks the death knight for that server. (a 55 on Dethecus lets you make a Deathknight on Dethecus)
One DK per server(you could delete one and make a new one, but you cant have more than one per server).
When you create one, he starts at 55 in a special area just for DKs. You do the quests that explain the lore, give you the talents etc. Once you finish those, the area becomes "live" and you are allowed to leave and play the character as normal(with talents etc).

They also give you a full set of really nice blue quested gear, and you should be level 58, allowing you to go directly to Outlands.

Well, the big myth I was trying to dispel is that you needed to do some series of quests on a high level character to get a DK. The way he phrased his post made it sound like he thought that you needed to go do some series of quests on a different character to unlock the ability to make a death knight. You do need to do the DK "orientation" quests to be able to bring them out of the Ebon Hold starting area, but that's mostly to teach you how to play the class and get you some good gear so you can head to Outland in style, as opposed to being necessary to create the character in the first place.

Halx 09-25-2008 10:33 AM

I forget.. haven't played in a while. Do you do Ebon Hold at 55?

Lasereth 09-25-2008 11:05 AM

I think WoW should have had more classes from the beginning. One of the best parts of EQ was seeing another character like yourself very rarely and it made some interesting group dynamics appear. I would like to see 12-15 different classes (or more) but that is a huge burden on the way WoW is played where each class has a decent chance against another if all things are equal.

Apokx 09-25-2008 11:46 AM

Yes. Ebon Hold should take you from character creation(55) up to level 58 to complete.

Frosstbyte 09-25-2008 12:32 PM

I'm not sure what you're remembering, Hal, but Ebon Hold is a new, DK only area east of Hearthglenn in EPL. It's not an instance or zone you would've done at any point prior to WotLK. I might be misreading your post, though.

Halx 09-25-2008 02:03 PM

Ok, I guess I misunderstood it.

If you have a 55+ on a server, you can get a DK.
DK's need to complete Ebon Hold quests to be able to leave and enter the world.

Simple. Got it.

Not trying to be a troll here, but It is kinda a pet peeve with me and a few friends..it is NOT called "Outlands" It is singular, "Outland" There is even a thread in the WOW forums about it. lol.

BTW, good explanation about how a DK starts. Damn near in perfect detail!

Spartanx9 09-26-2008 03:34 PM

Eh, I'm not too interested in a DK tbh, sure they sound cool, but never was the one to try a new class in an expansion, I always enjoy sticking to my main.

Catdaddy33 09-29-2008 03:52 AM

I'll try a Death Knight but will probably wait a month or so. I can imagine on Day 1 their starting zone will be packed.

Exactly why I will be taking my main to 80 first, then try a DK. Maybe roll a DK on one of the low-population servers? I remember when one of the test realms opened up the server was so busy and lagging that it took me 20 minutes just to buy a single pair of boots!

DreStreet 11-11-2008 01:13 PM

A friend of mine works at gamestop, and he tells me that the game is already in their inventory, so Its definitely not getting pushed back.

Baraka_Guru 11-11-2008 01:18 PM

I'm only level 52.

YaWhateva 11-11-2008 01:37 PM

yeah I powered through 20 levels on my mage since thursday hoping to get to 70 before wotlk comes out but I've only just made it to 60 so it will probably have to go on the backburner until my priest hits 80 for awhile

Edit: It's crazy how leveling has changed since I leveled my priest way back when.

I'm glad I managed to level the character I've been playing lately to 70 and get her epic flyer out of the way. I'm looking forward to Thursday; I hope I feel better by then. I plan on being at the local sells-everything store first thing that morning as there aren't any midnight releases here. :(

The lowered the experience need from 61-70 in the 3.0.2 patch by like 30%. My daughter had a 68 Hunter that she played to 70 this weekend, it was about 2-2 1/2 hours/level with rest XP. When we leveled our other chars pre-patch it was 4-5 hours/lvl with rest XP.

I'm off tomm and Friday so I'll be at the midnite release. I just hope the servers are up.. Y'day and this morning they were FUBAR..

LordEden 11-12-2008 12:47 PM

I have to be at work at 7 in the AM so no midnight release for me, but I'm picking it up after work tommorow. I'm going to stick to my main (Restro druid for raids) and get him to 80 then get my Enhancement Shaman to 80 (PVP only) and THEN I might think about a DK. I don't want to think about what the DK starting area in high pop servers will look like @ 2 am (hour to get it 30-1h to install). *shudders*

I just installed it right now, if you saved the 3.0.2 patch, you should be done in about 15 minutes.

I just need to get the upgrade key tomorrow when I buy my copy.

MageB420666 11-12-2008 09:42 PM

I love walmart. In at 11:45, out at 12:05. Waiting for the install to complete as I type this.

Crack 11-12-2008 10:43 PM

Got the game at GameStop, they gave away 4 free upgrades to the collectors ed.

I got one!

Cynthetiq 11-12-2008 11:04 PM

:) i drove (silly too because I live in Manhattan, but I left the car out of the garage) to SoHo Best Buy. I was in and out in 5 minutes, would have been shorter if I didn't go back outside to ask if Skogafoss wanted to upgrade to the CE version which she declined.

Back home in total 30 minutes.. :)

Installed and upgraded... but playing some old daily quests for the moment with un-upgraded friends...

was thinking of taking the day off tomorrow or at least working from home to play and see the new lands....

snowy 11-13-2008 09:19 AM

Installing right now. Picked it up first thing this morning at Fred Meyers; it was the last copy! I can't wait to get into it.

Cynthetiq 11-13-2008 11:09 AM

:) no work today...

Frosstbyte 11-13-2008 06:35 PM

Someone at blizzard is probably pissing blood right now looking at the realm status list. Easily 2/3 of the realms are listed at Max (Queued), with most of the others being at low. Someone really messed up when they were planning the loads for this release. I won't hazard a guess at what happened, but I haven't seen queues this big, this widespread ever. There were certainly the handful of realms WAY back in the day that always had high server load, but this is totally out of control.

Halx 11-13-2008 07:04 PM

I happened to obtain a free key just now. Curses. Why? WHY?!?

snowy 11-13-2008 08:56 PM

I'm loving my Death Knight so far. I'm almost 58!

EDIT: Finished the DK quest chain. It was awesome. Now I'm heading to Outland.

LordEden 11-14-2008 07:14 AM

Anyone else having MASSIVE clipping/loading problems? Questing in northrend I would often lose (for a few seconds) all of my icons/ui addons and then lose the ground (it looks like I'm standing on a mirror. After the 3rd wow critical error I quit playing last night.

Otherwise I'm going to hit it hard this weekend, my friends are already a lvl higher than me, so it's solo time for me again.

BTW I went ahead and made lvl1 alts with my death knight names so when I get to the point I want a DK I have my name I want (Deathclone and Frozencrotch).

Cynthetiq 11-14-2008 07:24 AM

not me.

we played all day yesterday no issues.

the only issue was last night Skogafoss logged out for an extended period of time to take a break and lost her spot. It was about 1,200+ queue for about 40 minutes at 11pm EST.

Baraka_Guru 11-14-2008 07:27 AM

Does anyone know if there are any "Battle Chest" plans in the making? I don't have either BC or WotWK, as I'm on my first character, and he's only lvl 53.

I try to be frugal with my games, and have lots of patience regarding these things usually, but if I hit 60, I'll need BC at least to continue to advance, right? I don't think I'll be so patient this time....

I'd really like to see a package deal where you can get both expansions at once.

Anyone hear anything?

Ha ha ha ha you are doomed.

I loved the time I spent on WoW and loved both of my characters and my guild and all of the friends I made in this game. I just wish I could play it without ruining my relationship with my wife. If I was single I would be all up in this shit TFP. ALL UP IN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know they had a battle chest of WoW with Burning Crusade; two of my friends' girlfriends who had started playing characters on my friends' accounts picked them up this summer. I'm not sure about BC with WoTLK, though, and it will be a while yet if they do.

And yes, you will need BC to level past 60. You can go through the Dark Portal at 58, and leveling 58-60 is a lot faster in Outland. The quests dovetail nicely together and the gear rewards are nice.

PonyPotato 11-14-2008 08:02 AM

Okay: question. Say I have a 55 alliance on a pvp server. Say I want a Death Knight. Will I be able to create a horde DK on another pvp server? Or will the new DK have to be alliance like my only 55 char?

You can only create the Death Knight on the server that you have the level 55 and since it's a pvp server you are on, it will have to be Alliance like your other characters

PonyPotato 11-14-2008 09:28 AM

Darn.

Thanks for the explanation, though. The description on the website was vague.
