Diablo III
|
Brought up here.
I, for one, am NOT excited. Looks like more of the same. I'm getting tired of graphical updates and new characters constituting a new game. I suppose it's better than releasing a new game instead of DLC like GH and RB are doing. Annoying! At any rate, I expect more from Blizzard. If the Bungie announcement tomorrow morning isn't killer, I may give up on all of my favorite studios. *sad panda* |
I'd like to see it on a console. Call me names, but I just don't dig on PC games. The only one I've ever played to completion was Neverwinter Nights.
|
Honestly, I hope it's more of the same. People have been trying to re-create Diablo II ever since Diablo II came out. I think Blizzard are the only ones that can create a worthy successor to D2.
|
Exactly. It's more of the same - which is exactly what people love - but with modifications (and not just graphics) to keep it interesting. What's not to like?!
|
I'll have to admit though... I HATED diablo until I played it on a LAN with friends. It's a terrible single player game, but playing it with friends is one of the best things ever (but I guess that's the case with a lot of games).

Yeah, some people will just keep buying rehashes of the same thing over and over again... *cough* Madden games *cough* I prefer my next $40-60 to be spent on a NEW good experience, not a remake of an old good experience I once had made prettier. *shrug* |
Pretty much every sequel is the older one made prettier. I don't really see how much they could change Diablo without completely changing what the game is.
|
If they made it totally different then people would bitch like Fallout 3. If they made it the same people will bitch because it's not totally different. It's a lose-lose situation for them. Either way they make it I'm sure it will be good even if it's more of the same.
|
Count me in for "more of the same, please!" I had been playing Diablo 2 just to burn time recently... then Diablo 3 was announced and I became so giddy. I thought to myself, "Now I can play the same immersing game, but with more convincing graphics! Sweet!"
|
To me it's mostly the fact that no game has held sway over my free time as much as Diablo2 did. I've all but stopped playing PC games, never did play console games.
I'm happy that they are remaking it. More of the same, with better immersion as Halx put it. Where do I sign for my early beta copy? :D |
This same thing happened to my last Blizzard countdown thread. Learn to read, people!

The ONLY thing I want changed is how loot is distributed in a party. As I returned to D2 recently it's stupid that to even have the slightest chance of getting loot requires you to be right under the boss when he dies and have the fastest connection. Even then you're going to get the good stuff stolen by someone's hacks that picks up anything good on a 0-1ms delay..

He then went back to his corpse, but the same problem occurred, so he died yet again, losing all the loot from his first corpse.... LOL |

I don't have a link handy but in one of the IGN write-ups Blizz said that every single person will get their own class specific loot. So no fighting for loot. Ever. |

I'm pretty sure that they only mean the appearance, not that all items will be specific to a class. Also, even if that were the case, I'm pretty sure you'd still be able to pick the items up.
|
I'd imagine that loot will be changed to work like WoW loot works, so that the party leader sets a type of looting instead of the spam loot bullshit from D2, unless it's set to FFA, of course.

No potion clicking/spam and skill respecs.
That's all I ask. Anyone care to take a stab at what the remaining classes will be? |
The graphical layout not being much different means, to me, that they concentrated more on adding a new depth to the gameplay. New aspects such as the physics system and environment response, as well as the attention given to spells and skills makes Diablo III look very appealing to me. As a former, an avid, player of Diablo II, I can say that attention the actual in-game combat and overall quality of the gameplay is much more important to me than the graphics. Graphics which I think look fantastic btw (making it a bit darker wouldn't hurt though...).
|
I'm excited.
I just recently bought and started playing D2 for the first time last weekend. Even with the outdated graphics I'm having a blast playing online with my friends over ventrilo. So far I have a 25 Lightning Trapsin. My BNet name on USEast is "Esoteric." Let me know if you add me, I should be on this weekend doing Baal runs. |
I might be able to get up with you a little this weekend, Eso. I picked this back up a week ago but stopped ever since I was forced to reinstall Windows. Installing this game is such a hassle. I've got a 51 WW/Berzerk barb called Denigulator with really shitty gear.
|
I am really excited about this one. I miss the old days of huge D2 LAN parties with my friends. I just hope they include the paladin in some shape or form. I've always like aura based classes.
|
I have been checking back to see if they'll add more characters to the site, but they haven't added anything yet. Argh! This game can't come fast enough!

Time to check the main website, people. They updated with a new class. They have a trailer up on the website as well as this:
|
Wizard looks just amazing. Everything I was hoping for in a sorc replacement. I cannot wait for this game.
|
I dunno. All I need is a fireball spell to put all of my talent points into...
|
It looks like they replaced the fireball with that purple energy ball (the he uses at the end to break that skeleton's shield). It seems just as effective.
|
You know, at first I thought the graphics were not all that different. I thought the environments were too clean, too bright, lacked that grittiness D2 had. I know now that I was horribly wrong. Horribly, horribly wrong. Amazing.
|
Wow that wizard action is epic...
Realistic expectations for release? I know Blizzard is slow as hell, but maybe I can enjoy some SC2 during the wait.. |
Sometimes I prefer Blizzard to be slow on release, because that means that the product will be high quality. Other times I really just want to play the game.
But, it took 4 months for them to release information on the third class. At the very least, they will have 5 classes (I don't think they have released information on the number of classes). I assume their target number of classes is 7 being equal to that of LoD. So, we have to wait for them to at least finish giving out information about the other classes. If 5 classes, that means that'll at least be another 8 months before we can start expecting to hear a release date. If it is 7 classes, we may be looking at 16 months. Of course, this is just going on the amount of time it took for them to reveal the wizard class. |
I'm looking forward to this game I always like the original Diablo for some fun hack-n-slash playing and I recently picked up diablo2 it is fun also.
|
Slow Time looks so awesome.
I guess an Archer/Marksman is next up? Hopefully they add something completely different like a demon-based class or something. |

My guess for the last two classes would be a hunter/archer/ranged type fellow and either a sword and board type or a shape shifter.

good to see myself proven wrong. |
Five classes = booooooo.
I really think it's too few. I hope there are more than just 2 on its expansion. |
Well, my diablo crack addiction is back it seems..
I recently finally shook off the reins of my dead horse (WOW) after so long of playing it. D2 was my god child. For me, it wasn't about the groups the teamwork, yes in a small part it was... It was plain and simple.. all about the loot. Not that I got any loot, I wanted to see that cool item drop. If I got it cool, if not oh well I got to see it drop. When I quit D2 i had at least 1 of every green and gold item in the game on my mules. With them adding respecs to the game, im giddy in the fact i won't have 5 or so toons all the same class cuz i either: 1. Didn't like this end talent 2. The synergies sucked for this end talent 3. I couldn't get the one main epic item that "made" this build 4. In leveling up so fast, the fatigue caused me to slip up and put a point in the wrong tree thus killing this toon and starting over. The addition to the rune system change was awesome. Instead of hunting down an item and either saveing a socket quest or and arm and a leg for the good item, you put it in the skill... like teleport. Added you don't distribute attribute points. (every class gets a fixed increase at every lvl) you rely more on the items and your skills. It always annoyed me to see a DR sorc with more str than a barb in D2. heh 5 classes are planned so far. Got a melee, two casters, so im guessing the next will be a range type like the amazon.. well outa the two that are left to show. I just hated that in wow you had to put up with guilds get a spot in a raid, and devote your entire game experience hoarding your station in that spot lest someone else waltz in. With D2 and hopfully D3 you just join games and do your thing. I'm not justifying D3 will blow anything outta the water.. just saying heh.. You don't go see a Godzilla movie or a Captian America movie cuz its awesome.. you go because you love the cheezyness of it all. In esential, a game is a time waster.. And I loved wasteing time in D2. I've noticed on Diii.net they are hinting at a subscription to D3. In no way will this cut out the item farmers or hacks. But with all thier security there are bound to get them. I just feel it will be a better play experience than D2 became. The only thing D2 bothered me was the drop hacks.. Hated lvling up a toon in hardcore just to have a hacked sorc drop a sword, crash my game and I die from it all. They did say joining a game put you in the party automatically, and no way to turn PK heh or hostile. Don't know how that will work. Also the loot system is showing each person will see loot.. thier own loot. Unlike wow where you had to actually click the body, the items drop and its up to that player to pick them up... this cuts lag a bit.. cuz im not riddled with junk on the ground, just my junk i dont want. On the other hand I can see joining a game and not knowing how far they are cuz there isn't any junk on the ground heh. all in all, I'm getting it. I might not like it, might quit it after a month.. but I'll give it a go, all cuz i liked the other two. Though, I got to admit I'll miss the dark mood set by the lightning in the previous D2, the LOTR moive lighting effect they are introducing has promise. Also lol, the fact I can destroy the surroundings to kill mobs makes it interesting. With a wizard, keeping them in a group using teleport to lure them on then bam, a wall falls on them... hmmmm me likey |
