Ps3 for 250$

so, Dj guy I know needs to get rid of stuff so he can afford to move, he's offering up his ps3 60gb with the full reverse hardware compatibility which they dont seem to make anymore for 250

good deal?

I think I'll probably just resell it but I dunno.

ironman 05-21-2008 01:38 PM

Great price, I'd be all over it without even thinking about it.

stevie667 05-21-2008 01:46 PM

Buy it, but take along a sword so you can fend off anyone else trying to get at it!

Shauk 05-21-2008 02:24 PM

alright, I'm picking it up tonight, I just was giving the collective consciousness of the internet a chance to notify me that there was a better or similar deal online retail. I guess he's just broke and I can jump on that :)

snowy 05-21-2008 02:26 PM

You should totally jump on that. I would.

telekinetic 05-21-2008 02:46 PM

Crappy deal. I'll save you the annoyance and paypal you the money for it, you can just send it my way and get it out of your hair

/obligatory

Redjake 05-21-2008 03:33 PM

If it's in working condition, go for it - it's the one I have, and I paid 600 fucking dollars for it, so eat this one up.

MexicanOnABike 05-21-2008 04:48 PM

i'd pay for that. just for the blueray player!!

CyCo PL 05-21-2008 05:12 PM

250 for the 60gb is a great price... I got mine for $400 and I feel like I got a good deal (considering the 60gb isn't in production anymore, and it has full hardware PS2 compatibility).

So yeah, buy that up, I'm sure you could resell it for higher if you wanted to.

Shauk 05-21-2008 07:07 PM

I got it.

he forgot the power cable at home, doh!

so now it's sitting there, staring at me with it's beady lil eyes.

looks like it takes the same kind of cord that you'd see going into a computer PSU.

it has it's own PSU right? so any computer cord should work?

JumpinJesus 05-21-2008 07:10 PM

See, that's what he didn't tell you. He's selling you the ps3 for 250, but the cords? Well, those are gonna cost 200.

Heh, enjoy it, man.

SSJTWIZTA 05-21-2008 08:32 PM

bah, use your time for something more productive than video games.

ObieX 05-21-2008 08:56 PM

For those that are interested they will be re-releasing the 60gig version next month. I dunno if it will have the backwards compatibility like it did before they discontinued it, but it would be kinda dumb for them to not keep it in there.

But yea $250 is a good deal definitely.

Shauk 05-21-2008 09:45 PM

ok so the guy gave me a free unopened HDMI cable

any idea if it's worth a trip to best buy's return center? ;p

that aside, I have a kinda worn out tv that i picked up for 30 bucks on CL, Nothing fancy like HD

I guess I'm not getting the full "experience" with plain ol RCA cables but I do what I gotta :)

I dont have any PS3 games yet so I'm just playing some FFXII for now. *shrug*

It doesn't have any slots on it for memory cards so I guess I have to start over, meh.

Martian 05-21-2008 09:48 PM

If you really want to be able to use your memory cards you could , but I'm not sure it'd be worth the effort myself.

When I get a PS3 I plan on just keeping the PS2 alongside it. Seems like a good enough solution to me.

dirtyrascal7 05-22-2008 03:31 AM

Damn, I'd love to find a deal like that. My PS2 broke a while ago and I can't justify spending $125 on a new one... but a PS3 with backwards compatibility would be pretty kick-ass, especially for that cheap.

heh, so I did some looking around. Not so sure anymore what I should do.

Looking to sell this TV for the same or a little more than I bought it for since the contrast is shot so whites and blacks kind of blur into an unreadable mess

should I consider saving up for a nice TV?

can someone show me a difference between HDMI and RCA quality video output that i'd actually care about?

stevie667 05-22-2008 12:25 PM

When you get said nice TV you'll thank god that you kept that HDMI cable.

I noticed the difference on my wii by using a better cable, you'll be amazed with a PS3.

Actually, the prices range from fairly reasonable to outrageous:

Let me tell you about TV's. I just bought myself a Sony KDL40V3000 (i think that is the model). It's a 40" lcd flatscreen with HDMI inputs as well as the RCA & S-video inputs. The HDMI connects from a PS3, or a DVD player such as Blu-Ray and carries both video & audio. The RCA cables split this, and do not have the same resolution. S-Video is somewhat better, but after using HDMI, I cannot go back to the RCA/s-video combo.

Shauk 05-22-2008 01:27 PM

hrm, I just can't see myself spending a lot of money on a T.V.

:(

you're missing out!!

no sense in playing the best visually stunning games, if you dont have to tv to play it on.

sometimes, you can get deals on overstock.com
yeah, i know.. refurbs
but i have a 50 inch sony from overstock and it's one of the best purchases i've ever made.

Really depends on what brand it is, and where he bought it. Retailers overcharge way too much for HDMI cables. If they are Monster cables, you could get a chunk of change for them, and then go to Monoprice (http://www.monoprice.com/products/su...02&cp_id=10240) and get an HDMI cable just as good for a fraction of a fraction of the price (that wasn't a typo, I really meant to say fraction of a fraction).

The only time you need to spend a lot on an HDMI cable is when you're getting a really long one. I've never known anybody that needed a really long one to hook a console to a TV... I bought a 3-footer for 5 bucks and it works perfectly (I keep my PS3 directly next to my TV though).

This post isn't going the way I intended it, it kind of turned into a rant about HDMI cable prices, but the first statement still stands... if it's one of the name brands that retailers overcharge for, I would take it back.

Also, there is a PS2 memory card to USB adapter for the PS3 that will let you transfer PS2 saves onto your PS3 hard drive.

Shauk 05-22-2008 11:57 PM

I found it, lol

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....ci_sku=7831876

Hell yeah I'm taking that in.

I saw all the cheap ones online, no way would I buy that retail, aside from that, I don't have any use for it until the day I wind up with one of those HDMI capable TV's so... no point.

Actually they are re-releasing the 80 gig version with Metal Gear Solid 4 (June 12). The 80 gig version has limited backwards compatibility through emulation and does not have the chip in it like the 60 gig did.

Shauk 05-26-2008 07:48 PM

ok so i took the HDMI cable and basically did a straight trade for GTA4 :p

that said, I'm now in the process of selling a crapload of stuff to raise the money for a nice TV since I wanna be able to watch and play things proper (and I'll probably buy a cheaper HDMI cable if I get a capable TV)

if anyone wants to help out, I accept paypal, buhaha.

CyCo PL 05-27-2008 07:42 AM

I bought a refurbished 32" Vizio LCD HDTV from www.Newegg.com for $450 about eight months ago, and I'm still happy about the purchase. Didn't seem used at all, worked perfectly out of the box, except for a small cluster of four or five dead pixels on the far right edge of the screen. The dead pixels are nearly impossible to notice unless you're sitting three feet away from the TV or you're looking for them. Playing console games in HD is vastly different from standard definition, and it's really hard to go back once you've gone HD. I still cringe sometimes when I play the Wii with its measly 480p.

So yeah, refurbished isn't a bad option when HDTV shopping... Retail stores will charge $200 more for a new product that just works the same as a refurb. If you're looking to save a little money, it's not a bad option. I rarely buy electronics from stores anymore, all the good deals are online. :)

Heeeeell no. Only if you're an uneducated consumer and shop at a store. I got a 9 foot long HDMI cable with gold plated connectors for $8 + $2 shipping.

Lasereth 05-27-2008 08:37 AM

If you pay more than $10 for ANY HDMI cable then you're getting ripped a new one. Home theater cabling is the biggest scam in the history of...well, home theater scams.

xepherys 05-27-2008 09:07 AM

HDMI cable = www.monoprice.com

Yes, but from where? If you are in Best Buy, like any other ordinary shmuck, yes, it's gonna cost. And it's worth it to return it at the same place. Tell us where you got yours please.

LoganSnake 05-27-2008 09:44 AM

Xeph posted the link to a good site. I got one of mine from eBay and another from www.cablesforless.com

xepherys 05-27-2008 10:05 AM

I've bought 2x HDI cables, a dozen ethernet crossover cables and several other odds and ends cables from monoprice over a few years. All have been top quality, all have been dirt cheap. :)

LoganSnake 05-27-2008 10:11 AM

And the thing about HDMI is that due to its digital nature, there is basically no difference in quality between a $5 cable and a $150 cable. All you pay for is the brand name and pretty packaging. As stated above me, it's the biggest rip off I've ever seen.

Shauk 05-27-2008 12:27 PM

I should go in to business then. hah. naaah, there are too many educated consumers in the world to try and make a quick buck off suckers.

Leto 05-27-2008 12:44 PM

But I bet there are more uneducated consumers.... hmmmmm....

You have no idea.

Your average soccer mom knows as much about HDMI as I do about the nuances of Chinese syntax.

Then again, your average soccer mom doesn't need an HDMI cable....

A dilemma....

Shauk 05-27-2008 03:51 PM

I'm naive, I find it hard to believe people are dumb and lack frugal common sense in these times.

I suppose it's the result of being almost 30 y/o and still getting paid crap :p

On that note, I'm looking for new work starting next month. 11$ an hour is for the birds.

canuckguy 05-27-2008 04:43 PM

I have a PS3 and play it on a 42" plasma and it looks fantastic. When I first got the PS3 I used the supplied cable because I did not have a hdmi cable but quickly got one off ebay for dirt cheap. wow, the difference is like black and white tv to colour....

(i should add that 2 days ago my plasma tv blew up....no picture but has sound...not the fuse but critical components, tv was ONLY 1.5 years old ffs....oh and out of warranty. currently unsure if i am going to repair it or just buy a new lcd)

Shauk 05-27-2008 05:08 PM

Plasmas have that problem dont they?
