Pirates of the Burning Sea
Anybody playing?
As far as MMOs go, this one is definitely different, both in good ways and bad. While its got an indepth economy and crafting system, the non-ship combat is very basic. Ship-to-ship combat is fun, if not a little slow. The best part is when one country attempts to take over one of the ports of another country. The sea around that port turns into a PVP area where everyone is fair game. I just started playing this week, so I'm still evaluating it, but with a few tweaks, this could be the game that anyone tired of the constant lvl grinding of WOW can move to. However, being that it is much different than the typical MMO, it may only find a niche market, and burn out pretty fast. Time willl tell. Anywho, if anyone is playing, im on the Antigua server, a Spanish freetrader named Guiseppe Myart (1000 Super Special Bonus points to anyone who knows where the name comes from.) Hope to see ya there. |
I play it on the Morgan server, up to around level 14 or so. Spanish Naval Officer. I've been playing it through the pre-order period, it's pretty fun, though I don't have a lot of time to devote to it.
You can't really think of it in terms of WoW, it's more like EVE than anything. |
I keep seeing these guys at pax (and stealing thier pirate loot) (ok it's not stealing if they give it to me) but i've never sat down and tried it because I'm against beta testing games if i'm not getting paid because A) they usually suck, and B) it ruins my opinion of an otherwise potential good game if I'm all like "i played it while it still sucked"

It's released now, they just had a two week "pre-boarding" period where if you'd preordered, you could start playing the game and get to level 21 before the box actually appeared in stores.

yeah i was just saying "back in the day"
just so ya know, PAX is in August so this was 5 months ago or so, then they were at the one in 2005 too so. I believe the developer is actually located in the Seattle area too so, makes sense. |
I'm loving it, it's definitely a good break from the endless grind of just about every other MMO. Things don't come in a drip-feed if you're willing to focus on what you need, the economy is a masterpiece and the ship combat is just fantastic.
