Mass Effect (XBox 360)

I can't believe there's not a Mass Effect thread on here already!!!!!

Mass Effect is a game for Xbox 360 coming out in November. It's made by Bioware, the same team that made Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) and Jade Empire. KOTOR is one of the best games I've ever played...it was amazing for its time, especially since it came out of nowhere and had almost zero hype. It was one of the highest rated games on XBox. Combining Star Wars with an RPG style worked out better than anyone expected. It had amazing graphics, awesome gameplay, great characters, incredible voice work, and a plot that many consider better than the Star Wars movies.

The spiritual successor to the KOTOR series is Mass Effect, a new RPG by Bioware. It takes place in our universe (the beginning of the game actually takes place in our solar system) and is the beginning of a trilogy. I won't go into detail about the plot but you're basically saving the universe from the main bad guy (Saren) who's teamed up with the Geth. You visit dozens (literally) of planets and take control of every conversation in the game. You can be good or bad. The main character is Shepard and again you're able to customize your character to look or act in any way you want. Shepard actually talks and is a main character in the story arc.

Here's some screenshots (which look unbelievable if you ask me since they're all in-game):

And finally, a game trailer in HD!!

Please can we replace the images with links? Firstly my screen isn't that wide and secondly, I have a measly 512kb connection :)

And I would love to buy this on release, but when would I play it? I've completed PGR4 and Halo 3 sure, but only in the Career and on Heroic respectively. Then we have Forza 2 and Splinter Cell waiting for me to play. I think a full fledged Bioware RPG might make me have to quit my daytime job!

Life's hard, sometimes. ;)

Prophecy 10-28-2007 05:13 PM

I'm a huge Bioware fan. Reviews be damned, they release a game I'm buying it day one (at least till Jan. 2008 rolls around). That said, I have high hopes for this game it's one of only two games I'm looking forward to next month.

Also, Las you made a little mistake. The Mass Effect is not the main bad guy(s). From the official Bioware forums:

The main antagonist(s) is Saren and his army of Geth.

Lastly, for those that want more info on the game.

Lasereth 10-28-2007 07:29 PM

Ah, I guess the article I read in EGM about a year ago was too early about the info then. Updated

Baraka_Guru 10-28-2007 08:24 PM

I got the info on his game months ago, and it looks pretty darned good. Those screenshots are amazing; the depth of field usage is dramatic. I like that. But I really think this will be about the gameplay and story. I'm not quite sold on the combat mechanics, but time will tell. I don't have a 360 though. I'm a PC Gamer, so it looks like I might have to upgrade next year.

I think I'd prefer this to Halo, since I'm an RPG geek.

xepherys 10-28-2007 08:27 PM

I have mine pre-ordered. Hopefully I'll be most of the way through The Witcher (PC) by then. Otherwise there will be some serious conflict, lol.

Esoteric 11-01-2007 05:55 AM

Only a couple more weeks...

parched_son 11-05-2007 11:03 AM

Mass Effect looks to dominate the market this Christmas season. In addition, Assassin's Creed should be incredible as well! I know I'm pretty stoked for both.

Prophecy 11-10-2007 04:18 PM

The street date on Mass Effect was broken today.

So for those trying to avoid spoilers for the plot, beware the blogs and forums. Also, the retail store (K-mart) has already talked to MS. No more copies are gonna be sold unless you find a lucky store.

If you're one of the lucky people with the game feel free to share you impressions, but no spoilers please. :)

Launches tonight ladies and gentlemen!!

93 on metacritic!!!!!!!!!

Bring on some freaking RPG if you ask me! It's been so long since I played a console RPG (FFXII was the last, almost a year ago!). I'm pumped for this, especially since my brother sold me his HD TV for $50 to play it on.

Lokus 11-19-2007 08:47 PM

Hmmm I'm going to have to wait until I'm done with school and Thanksgiving this week then I can get my Mass Effect on. I've been playing the NWN2 expansion lately so it should be interesting to compare the two.

Cyborg Ninja 11-19-2007 10:05 PM

This game looks absolutely amazing. I have always wanted to play a videogame with its own fully-actualized galaxy that I can explore. The environments look gorgeous and I love the design of the characters, especially the aliens. The gameplay looks interesting, although I have never played a squad-based combat game before, and first-person shooters always gave me motion sickness. I don't have much of a choice at the moment however, because I don't have a next-gen console. They're still far too expensive for me.

Lasereth 11-21-2007 06:33 AM

I started it up last night! I spent 30 minutes simply trying to make my character. So many freaking options. Which class, which background, which personality, how they look, make or female, healer or warrior, etc.

YaWhateva 11-21-2007 09:12 AM

I really want to get this game, is it as awesome as everyone says?

Willravel 11-21-2007 10:02 AM

This game does look really good. So far I've been fine sticking with my PS2, but this actually had me pricing 360 Elites last night.

Church 11-23-2007 08:19 PM

This game is everything I have ever wanted in a game. I don't think I've ever cared so much about story and character development in a game as I've expereienced here. The look, the feel, the music, the ambiance... everything in this game is by far above par. I already can't wait until ME2.

Esoteric 11-24-2007 06:50 AM

Yeah, this game is excellent. The combat can get a bit hectic at times, but it's not frustrating. However, from what I've seen your squad AI can be pretty stupid at times. I'm only about 11 hours into it though.

Lokus 11-25-2007 10:32 AM

I'm having a great time, one of the best RPGs I've ever played, hands down. First off, the catch. The game looks great but I hear it doesn't take advantage of HD caching because of the xboxs that don't have hard drives so while the actual loading screens aren't too bad, you'll frequently encounter elevators that move at a snails pace while it loads the next area. Also, sometimes you'll pause in the middle of a large room while it loads and you get slowdown in some large fights. Those are really my only complaints and the rest of the game more than makes up for it.
The game is simply beautiful, not quite as good looking as Gears of War but up there. It's got some cool film grain, depth of field and motion blur effects. The dialogue is very good, well written and all of it spoken with the characters themselves making facial expressions and gestures, really immerses you in the world. Every conversation is interesting, a nice change from some RPGs with blah characters and quests. Combat is pretty good, it plays like a 3rd person shooter but takes some time to get into it.
I highly recommend this game to anyone that even vaguely likes RPGs, you won't regret it.

Prophecy 11-25-2007 09:33 PM

I love the game, and yes it doesn't take full advantage of hard drive caching, thanks MS for your everything has to play on the Core rule.

I've never seen any slow down in the game, however, I have seen some bad texture popping. The dev teams says that's the fault of the Unreal Engine 3 and the code was streamlined as much as the could. I figure it's also because they had to make the game work without a hard drive.

Nikilidstrom 11-26-2007 08:27 PM

while the elevators and decontamination room screens are tedious, they feel alot more organic then if they had just placed some static image load screen there. Excellent game all the way around. It ate up most of my Thanksgiving vacation.

Lasereth 11-27-2007 04:35 AM

I'm about 15 hours into it and this game is freaking awesome. I admit that the first few hours in the Citadel were getting annoying, but only because I did every single quest there so there was a whole lot of fetching and not a lot of action. Now that I'm actually in the game so to speak it's kicked into overdrive.

<UL>Pros:
<LI>Graphics are incredible. In some areas it looks better than Gears of War and the atmosphere rivals Bioshock.
<LI>Character models are so detailed. Every armor piece has its own graphic. Every square inch of every location has been detailed.
<LI>Plot is genuinely interesting. Back stories of human civilization (it actually explains how humans have the technology to shoot lasers and space travel only 150 years from now) are completely "fleshed out."
<LI>Best voice acting in any game I've played. The quality is the same as Metal Gear Solid, but every.single.person you talk to speaks, and I haven't met one character that had a bad actor yet. The game is also written <I>very</I> well.
<LI>The game plays a lot like Gears of War with the cover system and shooting angles. It does it well. Not as good as Gears of War, but good enough to be way funner than an RPG should be in combat.
</UL>

<UL>Cons:

<LI>Someone mentioned the game never slowed down on them. Whoa whoa whoa!! This game has a downright shitty framerate at times. It never goes above 30 FPS. It's usually hovering at 20-30 FPS, and at times I've seen it drop to 10 FPS. Thankfully it never affects the combat, but in cities like the Citadel the framerate definitely takes away from the experience.
<LI>There needs to be a better skill mapping function. The one in Mass Effect works, but it could be better...how about using some of the other buttons on the controller for abilities that you use often in combat? Also, there should be a "go here" button for your squad like Half-Life 2. Currently there is retreat, come with me, go forward, but no "go here." It works, but in combat your squadmates don't pay attention sometimes.
<LI>There needs to be a way to access your entire squad's armor, abilities, and statistics no matter where you are. I hate having to go to my ship to check people's armor and talents. In KOTOR you could do this by simply pressing the menu button. Why can't we do it in Mass Effect??
</UL>

None of the cons are game-breaking and I am currently having a blast (pun intended) with this game. I highly recommend it.

You can. It's under two different sub-menus in the start menu, but it's there. I can check what gear my team is equipped with and their talents. I don't remember exactly what the option is, but it's up and down after hitting start. Is that what you're talking about or am I totally misreading that?

You can check your 2 teammates in this menu, but not all 7 of your actual party.

For example: say I just picked up a new rifle. I want to see who can use it in my party before I give it to someone. You can't. All you can check is the 2 people with you and Shepard. KOTOR allowed full access to your entire party even if they weren't with you.

Nikilidstrom 11-27-2007 11:00 AM

Pressing up on the crosspad sends your squad to where your crosshair is aiming. Now I admit that the party doesnt always listen so well, but that is as close to a go here option you are gonna get in a console game.

And as far as the framerate, I have not had one slow down yet, regardless of level size or number of enemies on the map. Not even during large explosions like when you shoot one of those fuel cannisters.

alin8456 11-27-2007 11:45 AM

One of the only issues I've found so far is that you can't really read any of the text without an HD screen :(

This is one of my few major issues with the game. That and you can't check the talents of anyone but Shepard when you're on the ship. I can check everyones equips, granted I have to use the lockers, but how do I check talents? The issues aren't game breakers, but it is a bit annoying at times.

I've gotten around the first problem by only selling items on the ship after I've checked the weapons lockers unless the item is really low level.

This is literally impossible. The Citadel runs at 15 FPS if you're in the courtyard area. I mean it doesn't go down to 5 FPS or anything but it's definitely not above 30 FPS.

I've also noticed that the game doesn't "slow down" when there's lots of enemies or explosions, the framerate is just substandard all the time regardless of what's going on.

Prophecy 11-27-2007 05:44 PM

I recently just started my third play through and first time with a male PC. Is it just me or did the female lead VA do a better job as Shepard? It seems she gave the dialogue more emotion than her male counter part.

ObieX 11-27-2007 05:54 PM

Thats what i heard in all the reviews. The male voice is poorly acted.

Lasereth 11-27-2007 06:25 PM

I agree about the male voice. The male voice acts well in the actual main-plot dialogue, but in all of the side-quest dialogue scenes (especially the "give me more info" questions) the tone isn't right at all. The acting is decent but the tone just isn't there. You can tell they recorded all of the question-asking at once instead of recording an actual conversation with responses. I haven't played as the female yet (well I played about 10 minutes into it) so I can't really judge her dialogue.

Lokus 11-27-2007 10:25 PM

Even the female Shepard seems a bit lacking in emotion to me. I especially noticed that during the romance scenes. My partner, the asari, sounded really sweet and in love while Shepard seemed a bit reserved even when asking for hot alien sex. It was also a bit weird to get your romance on after having maybe one conversation broken into pieces that lasted around 10 minutes. Ah well.

It's a great game, just a bit disappointing that it was pushed out the door. You can tell it's rushed by the framerate issues and some rather unpolished stuff like the Mako. Also, some lines of dialogue are the same no matter which response you pick.

You know, you're absolutely right. I didn't change my party at all once I acquired Wrex, so, I never bothered to check for the rest of the team. Mea culpa. :)

I didn't much care for the Mako. The driving was fine, but the combat was always an exercise in controller squeezing frustration. And the inventory system...was so very, very bad.

Lasereth 11-28-2007 03:06 PM

I don't get how they had a perfect inventory system in KOTOR and it downgraded!! I bet it will be fixed in ME2.

Nikilidstrom 11-28-2007 05:07 PM

thats one place where I will agree with your guys. The inventroy system, especially the stores, are driving me crazy. Simply sorting items by type, and listing like items together (Tornado V, VI, VII, etc...) would have made everything so much easier, and couldn't be that much of a hastle to program.

I still disagree with the framerate issue though. As an avid PC game player without the money to have a top of the line comp, I know what 15 FPS looks like. Anything under 30 is detectable by the eye, and I am not seeing any slow downs in any areas. Ever since the Feros mission I am seeing several more in area loads, which are annoying, but they only last a second or 2.

Prophecy 11-28-2007 07:27 PM

A Word About Hardcore Mode

Just started playing on Hardcore mode. Started with a level 43 Vanguard. I figured with my improved weapons and skills I'd blow through Eden Prime with ease.

My god was I wrong. The very first mobs I faced ripped through my shields like they weren't even there. I felt like Jenkins.

Before now I've never died on Eden Prime and I know things are only going to get worse. :cringe:

Still, having to actually plan when and how to use my biotic/tech powers instead of whenever is going to be fun and challenging. To all those looking to play hardcore, remember cover and barrier are your friends!

So every single reviewer in the industry complains about the framerate going down, multiple people in this thread complain about the framerate, IGN.com which has been reviewing games since the Internet went public, and countless others are saying the framerate is bad, but yours isn't? It doesn't add up. Anything under 60 is detectable by the eye.

Graphics
One of the most artistically and technically beautiful games of all time. Unfortunately, the engine can't keep up and slowdown is rampant.

The slowdown is bad in this game. On Noveria in the tram station the game was going at 10-15 FPS, almost slide-show material. Hell, the Citadel is going at about 20, I don't see how you think it's going at 60 FPS constant. I hate to badger about it but it's odd seeing someone flat out rebuke the biggest issue with the game.

Nikilidstrom 11-29-2007 10:48 AM

I haven't spent any time at Noveria, but I have spent more time than I''d like at the Citadel, and there is absolutely no way that it is running at 15 FPS in that environment. And a standard 35mm camera runs at 24 FPS, meaning if you go much below that without motion blur, you would see notable flickering. I dont see it, sorry. The biggest problem I have with the game is the inventory system, followed closely by the repetetive look of the side mission worlds and indoor modules.

Lokus 11-29-2007 01:20 PM

Games don't use motion blur like film and television do. 30 FPS is different from 60 FPS and I've had Mass Effect go down to at least 10 or 15. The Noveria and Eden Prime tram as well as some fights get very chunky. I have heard that some new and refurbished xboxes come with extra heat sinks or something so that may explain why you're getting better FPS.

Prophecy 11-29-2007 01:37 PM

Do you guys play with the motion blur and grain filters on? Perhaps that's adding to why you're getting lower frames more often than others?

Lasereth 11-29-2007 01:56 PM

I play with motion blur and not film grain. When I turn motion blur off the framerate doesn't change.

Esoteric 11-29-2007 05:19 PM

I've gotten noticeable FPS drops also, but it's not a huge deal.

On my second playthrough as a Soldier, and will be a Paragon.

Lokus 11-29-2007 08:11 PM

I'm about done with my second playthrough as a soldier as well except I went renegade. As soon as I hit 75% though, I started doing paragon type stuff, I want to see how high you can get both meters on one character.

Nikilidstrom 11-30-2007 10:50 AM

I did recieve a new 360 a few months back because of the red lights debacle. They sent me one with the HDMI out, which my original did not have, but I don't know anything about any other updates. Hooray for me if there is!!!

Lokus 11-30-2007 02:52 PM

Hah lucky you! I just have to hope that my xbox dies within 2 years so I can get a replacement while it's still under warranty.

vonstalhein 12-16-2007 09:47 AM

There are a lot of issues with this game that stop it from being perfect, but none that stop it from being absolutely amazing. Most of the reactions to things like frame rate drops and poor inventory management are understandable, but, really...it's not so bad.

- Inventory: as soon as you realise you don't need most of the upgrades (simply because the ones you have equipped aren't listed) you can sell then/omni gelise them which makes keeping track a lot easier

-frame-rate: Doesn't spoil things...

-Everything else: Trust me, i'm not easily pleased, but unless you have no soul and you like bioware games/rpgs you will be entranced by this wonderful, wonderful progressive RPG.

By the way, has anyone completed it yet...i wanna talk about stuff...!

Lokus 12-16-2007 11:43 AM

Yeah, I've beaten it twice now. Working on a third playthrough on insanity to get to level 60.

Prophecy 12-16-2007 02:57 PM

Feel free to talk about the game, but you might want to use the spoilers tags for those who haven't finished yet. Personally, I'm in the same boat as Lokas, I've beat the game several times.

Jadedfox 12-17-2007 04:49 AM

I love this game. Or I should say I love the story and the characters and the whole damn Universe. This the only reason I'm still playing it because frankly the game play sucks. It's boring, it's repetative and just not fun. Even the items are meh and so are the skill sets.

But it doesn't matter. This is THE best story I have ever encountered in a game hands down. So I'll play it...over and over again.

--jaded

Scorps 12-17-2007 12:17 PM

I just started to play this game, my bro played and beat it so I figured I would give it a go. Graphics kickass and its one of the best games I played on the XBOX in a long time. and in HD omg kickass

inyoeye 12-31-2007 12:15 AM

should i get this game? its either this or assassin's creed.

which one will keep me occupied longer?

Lokus 12-31-2007 01:21 AM

If you do every sidequest in both games, Mass Effect is longer. Just busting through it Mass Effect is probably still longer and provides a better experience in my opinion. Assassin's Creed just has no replayability while Mass Effect is at least slightly different with a different class and alignment.

Kadath 12-31-2007 07:06 AM

I'm about 30 or 35 hours in, really focusing on the sidequests, but the game is so repetitive. Land Mako, drive around, salvage a probe (press 5 buttons in sequence), survey a mineral (press 5 buttons in sequence), find mine/base surrounded by/filled with Geth/Creepers/Husks/mercs, kill them all, open a couple storage lockers/crates/malfunctioning objects/upgrade kits for perhaps one marginally better item and a bunch of redundant upgrades. Go back to Normandy, sell gear to Quarter Master, outfit team in clunkiest manner possible, go to next world. I mean, the game is fun enough, but it's so very, very shallow. Like JadedFox said, meh.

Scorps 12-31-2007 10:04 AM

So beat the game 2 times now on my 3 round, ya it sucks there isn't more paths to take but being lvl 56 and on Hardcore make it a lot more fun, and being a Sentinel is to much fun.

Johnny Rotten 12-31-2007 05:09 PM

It's disappointing that the overwhelming bulk of the planets are barren mountain ranges, with a building or two you can enter and a handful of items to salvage/survey. I think they would have been better served by having fewer planets with more stuff on them. Plus, some of the planets have pretty steep terrain and can be frustrating to navigate. Also, the guns on the Mako can aim where they can't actually shoot.

I only found out after my first play-through that the Mako has a super-zoom. Pull left trigger for the normal zoom, then click the right stick. That really would have helped out on a lot of those missions where the enemy shoots at you from so far away that they're barely on your compass, let alone targetable. On the other hand, the big Geth are pretty easy to deal with. You can knock them over with the Mako quite easily.

On the whole, I like how they've pretty much eliminated "take this item to this guy" and "go kill this other person," and there's no more of the ridiculously evil dialog options that there were in the KOTOR games, where being Dark Side basically meant being a homicidal asshole.

What I don't get is how the inventory system could be so much worse than the KOTOR games. Navigation is clunky and tedious. Try turning some inferior ammo into omni-gel and you'll see what I mean. That action pops you back up to the top of the equipment list. And there's no "back to previous menu" option when adjusting your weapon mods.

The game has a pile of little annoyances that prevent it from being a fully escapist experience. You may notice that when you survey a solar system, you sometimes get rewards, and you sometimes don't. The only way to make sure you get them is to exit the galaxy map altogether. Also, there are no equipment templates. Sometimes you'll be dealing with Geth, humanoids, and poison-spitting creatures all in the same location, and you'll have to go into the menu screens and manually change out mods for each fight.

There are some other things, but I can't mention them without spoiling the story.

Lasereth 01-01-2008 02:02 PM

I'm about 25 hours in and so far I'm not very impressed. It's nowhere near the KOTOR level. The character development is decent but nothing like KOTOR. The side missions are downright boring. I'd probably give it an 8.0 or 8.5 at this point because it does a lot right. It's the little things that drop it down, and it has a TON of little things wrong with it.

Reese 01-27-2008 01:58 AM

It scares me a little that people consider this game "a big step in storytelling." Yeah, There's a massive universe to learn about but the game has little to no direction it's so easy to get lost in the side quests. I'm not talking about the "lost in sidequests" where you'd rather spend time doing them than finishing the game, I'm talking about the kind of "getting lost in sidequests" where you're screaming "where's the damn quest to get me off this god forsaken planet!" It's not a big step in story telling, It's a step forward in virtual world creation. I'll give it that even though it's nothing compared to MMO worlds like World of Warcraft. The world pretty much has an answer for every thing except why it takes longer for the elevator to reach the bottom floor of the ship than it does for the ship to get to the other side of the galaxy... Having multiple responses to questions really wasn't all that revolutionary either, Having it all voice acted was definitely an achievement but nothing spectacular, in my opinion.

I tried to like the game, Hell, I really wanted to and I didn't want to admit I didn't like it for a few days because It was getting all these good reviews. It was just boring and riddled with mundane tasks which provided no character development. The UI was clunky and hard to use, Combat isn't bad for an RPG but I really couldn't get far enough into the game to experience it much. I upgraded my weapons and armor multiple times between fights, I spend more time equipping guns than I did shooting them.

The game looks good, but any HD game with a decent budget looks good nowadays. I only experienced a few FPS problems in game but I did have massive lag with some of my armors loading. It'd load the basic armor model and It'd be 10-15 seconds before the normal mapping textures kicked in and gave a nice detailed look.

Lasereth 01-27-2008 11:37 AM

I beat it. I'd give it an 8 out of 10. The last few hours were amazing. The story was definitely not revolutionary like everyone is saying. The game did a lot of things right but it did even more things wrong. I agree with cybermike -- the game would have benefitted from being much more linear instead of it being riddled with boring as fuck sidequests.

Scorps 01-27-2008 12:31 PM

I beat the thing 3 times in a row now lol I put it down for awhile I just want to get all the achievements :p

Blame the texture pop-in on the Unreal Engine.

Scorps 01-30-2008 02:02 PM

Ya that will get better in time, but besides that I never found any other problems. Besides the disc dropping but thats just XBOX for ya.

I can;t seem to get the majority game completed achievement, I did almost all the side missions (forgot maybe 3) and didn't it, I also had Ashley and Leira with me every mission, I know some games bug and don't give you the achievements when you get them, just wondering if anyone else is having this problem?

Prophecy 01-30-2008 03:28 PM

I've sorta had that problem. My first play through I used Ashley and Liara as well, I got the achievement for using Ash but not for Liara.

I've read on other boards if you want that achievement with Liara, you pretty much have to do only the storyline quests till you can get her into your party. That means no extra citadel quests before you're free to roam the galaxy.

As a sidenote, I still haven't gotten the achievement for using our favorite Asari yet. :grumpy:

Scorps 01-31-2008 11:18 AM

I guess I will give that a try on my next play through when I go for sniper rifle kills and a couple others.

Esoteric 01-31-2008 12:20 PM

I actually got the Completionist achievement my first playthrough lol. Haven't played it in awhile but on my newest run through I'm playing as the default John Shepard avatar as a full Renegade Adept. Playing through with Ashley and Garrus exclusively.

Scorps 01-31-2008 07:56 PM

Funny my first chick was a Renegade adept, the two seem to go hand in hand :)

the guy I got not is just the nice guy assault master. Adept is the one I like the most, like tossing people and things around is awesome.

Bioware announced DLC today.

Quote:

The Bring Down the Sky downloadable content pack will be released to Xbox LIVE Marketplace on Monday, March 10 at 2 a.m. PST, and will be available for 400 MS points. This is the first in a series of planned downloadable content that further expands the Mass Effect universe and continues the adventures of Commander Shepard and the Normandy crew.

Bring Down the Sky includes a new uncharted world that introduces the notorious and feared alien race of the Batarians. A Batarian extremist group has hijacked a mobile asteroid station in the Asgard system, setting it on a collision course with the nearby colony world of Terra Nova. Only Commander Shepard can save the millions of innocent civilians before the asteroid completes its deadly descent.

Bring Down the Sky contains approximately 90 minutes of heart-pounding action and a new Achievement worth 50 Gamerscore points.

Also mentioned was
  • Full VO for English, French, German and Italian.
  • Spanish and Polish versions have localized subtitles, but English audio.
  • All language versions will be available on March 10, as far as I know.

No word if the DLC is going to be in, but I don't see why it won't make it.

PC Screenshots

Lasereth 02-12-2008 03:13 PM

When I played this on 360 I kept thinking over and over "if they make a PC version, this will probably be fixed." Looks like all of it is. :(

Scorps 02-15-2008 09:00 AM

not sure I will change I use my computer for WoW....

Fotzlid 02-15-2008 09:56 AM

So how long do i have to wander around on ringworld before the best part of the game starts?

Scorps 02-15-2008 11:32 AM

crazybobmarley 02-15-2008 04:44 PM

Star Wars always adds points

But beating the game is easy, the main story is short, I don't think that's really the point of it, it's finding everything.

The BIGGEST complaint is it's not for PC(currently), KOTOR was infinitely better on the PC because of the much smaller load times and control.

And you really think the removal of outrageous(trust me theres still some in there including punching mental patients in the face) is good ? Some of the conversation options do require high intimidate or renegade points.

I can't do that stuff in real life so I want it in a game, I want to be a virtual homicidal asshole.

5 more days, gawd im so bored no new games to play until RB6 Vegas 2 comes out.

Fotzlid 03-28-2008 04:04 PM

ok...I'm done with this game. Can't get past that big battle with that tall blue chick..Benezir or whatever her name is...
Got past the first half of the battle with great difficulty, now I either get swamped by the multitude of enemies that assist her or she flattens me in 2 shots.
Waaaay too annoying for something that is supposed to be a recreation.
Worst part is I'll probably get crap for a trade in.

Lasereth 03-28-2008 04:47 PM

The game isn't level-scaled so if you go to another planet and level up you could come back and slaughter her.

I heard reviewers talking about how hard the Benezia fight is but I raped her on the third try. It was borderline laughable how bad I killed her. My main guy could kill the other guys that spawn with her in a half second burst of assault rifle fire.

Prophecy 03-29-2008 02:05 AM

The first time I won, I had to rush over to the right side of the battlefield. From there you can find cover that hides you from her attacks, her minions will still rush you though. You should be able to survive them even with them coming from two directions. After the flood eventually stops it's an easy 3 on 1.

Cheap but it works. Then you can reload a save later and do the fight over if you felt like you copped out.

I'm pretty sure the game is level scaled if you play on the harder settings, hardcore & insane. I think the game says regular enemies, sub bosses & bosses scale with bosses also having some immunities.

Lasereth 03-29-2008 11:01 AM

Maybe the game doesn't have level scaling. That's really weird then. I had no trouble with her. Did you guys use the fighter type main character? My guy was the soldier gun man and his assault rifle would just slaughter every enemy in the game all the way till the end boss. By the end my main character was killing the final enemies in one quick split second burst. Maybe it's different if you choose one of the magicky type main characters?

Prophecy 03-29-2008 03:43 PM

My first char was a Vanguard with a bonus talent of decryption. Great at dealing it out, horrible at taking it. I couldn't lay waste to things with my Pistol in a split second, but being able to DoT with warp and blow away peoples shields often made up for that.

Though my second char was a Solider with a bonus skill of barrier and specs in shotgun and sniper. Completely different way of handling battles.

The above post was only about my vanguard.

I took he down no problem first shot but tossing her to the roof and blasting her away was my way of doing it :P
