360 with red ring of death

Well, title says it all, and I bought it second hand. Am I screwed?

Not sure, call MS. If it's a RROD problem they should fix it for free, if you have any other issues it's out of pocket for you.

Edit: Since Halo 3 has launched the expected return time for you console has sky-rocketed, just be aware.

There are ways to fix it if you are out of warranty also. Google "xclamp replacement"

drego 10-11-2007 08:42 PM

Even easier:

https://service.xbox.com/servicehome.aspx

If you've got a xbox live account that is. It's all web based. I didn't even register my console until the RROD, basically create the account, register your hardware, and open up a trouble ticket.....then they take it and go.

Assuming no one else has registered the console, it's easier than most things dealing with Msft. They send you a box, you send it in, and a couple weeks later you get a box back. On mine, they just send a whole new console, which was sweet because I had one of the old, louder than crap cd drives.

Hell, you even get a free month of XBox live gold to make up for the time you lose!

Yeah, just get in touch with MSoft and they should take care of it. I also have a defunct console and need to call them for my 360 coffin...

I feel for ya. Im on my 4th.

If you get the 3 rings of death but you're out of warranty, does microsoft still replace the 360 for free?

Reese 08-29-2008 03:29 PM

Microsoft will fix all RROD consoles free of charge. Just call em up and explain what it's doing. They'll ask a few questions to make sure it's really the Red ring of death then they'll send you a box to return the console in.

ObieX 08-30-2008 10:07 PM

Yea just give them a call. All consoles are covered for 3 years. and if you're over 3 years it wont be a problem with RROD. You can either print out your own pre-paid label or have them send you a box with foam packing and such to send it in. I just sent mine in 2 weeks ago and its already back and working fine.

Exactly. I've sent two in this way and I haven't had any trouble yet with the process. In fact, my turnaround time was a little over a week both times. I didn't have to deal with Microsoft at all except through the website.

I don't think the rrod warranty covers second hand purchases. I believe you will need to pay $99 to get it repaired even with the rrod.

ObieX 10-02-2008 06:36 PM

rrod does indeed cover used purchases. mine was used and it wasn't a problem. Mine was not registered, but who registers their xbox? there shouldn't be a problem.

Microsoft is well aware that their system shits out on people very often with the rrod so if you get it don't sweat it. <--zomg that rhymed
