360 with red ring of death
Well, title says it all, and I bought it second hand. Am I screwed?
Not sure, call MS. If it's a RROD problem they should fix it for free, if you have any other issues it's out of pocket for you.
Edit: Since Halo 3 has launched the expected return time for you console has sky-rocketed, just be aware. |
There are ways to fix it if you are out of warranty also. Google "xclamp replacement"
Even easier:
https://service.xbox.com/servicehome.aspx If you've got a xbox live account that is. It's all web based. I didn't even register my console until the RROD, basically create the account, register your hardware, and open up a trouble ticket.....then they take it and go. Assuming no one else has registered the console, it's easier than most things dealing with Msft. They send you a box, you send it in, and a couple weeks later you get a box back. On mine, they just send a whole new console, which was sweet because I had one of the old, louder than crap cd drives. Hell, you even get a free month of XBox live gold to make up for the time you lose! ~Drego |
Yeah, just get in touch with MSoft and they should take care of it. I also have a defunct console and need to call them for my 360 coffin...
I feel for ya. Im on my 4th.
If you get the 3 rings of death but you're out of warranty, does microsoft still replace the 360 for free?
Microsoft will fix all RROD consoles free of charge. Just call em up and explain what it's doing. They'll ask a few questions to make sure it's really the Red ring of death then they'll send you a box to return the console in.
Yea just give them a call. All consoles are covered for 3 years. and if you're over 3 years it wont be a problem with RROD. You can either print out your own pre-paid label or have them send you a box with foam packing and such to send it in. I just sent mine in 2 weeks ago and its already back and working fine.

I don't think the rrod warranty covers second hand purchases. I believe you will need to pay $99 to get it repaired even with the rrod.
rrod does indeed cover used purchases. mine was used and it wasn't a problem. Mine was not registered, but who registers their xbox? there shouldn't be a problem.
Microsoft is well aware that their system shits out on people very often with the rrod so if you get it don't sweat it. <--zomg that rhymed |
