Bioshock Demo (360)
Apparently it's available via Marketplace. I'll let you all know after I d/l it. No, actually, I'll be busy playing it. Chumps! :-)
|
I keep hearing it's amazing. :( Sucks that my 360 is in Texas being fixed. I want to play this so bad, I've had my eye on it since it was first unveiled.
|
I've been looking forward to this game for awhile anyway, since it's from the guys that did system shock, but after playing the demo, all I can say is wow! I didn't want to play that long, just see how it was, but I couldn't stop. The environment is amazing. You just want to stop and look around. It feels like a ride/attraction at Disney World. I will definitely be getting this one. Can't decide if it will be on 360 or PC though. Sorry if that sounds like an ad for the game, but if they can keep the levels this good throughout the game, its a valid contender for Game of the Year.

O-M-F-G! The demo has me massively hooked. Not that I'm surprised, I've been following the development for quite some time now. System Shock and SS2 were impressive, but Bioshock takes every bit of game crafting to a new level... and that's just in the demo. The environment is gorgeous. I mean friggin' beautiful. The game plays smoothly and did I mention that it looks utterly gorgeous? Thankfully, since I'm way out here in Afcrapistan, 2K Games has offered to send me a copy of it free of charge. God I love those guys. Usually if I'm waiting for a game and a demo comes out I'm either heartbroken that the game isn't what I expected or satiated for the few weeks or months before it comes out. With this one I'm mad as hell the game isn't already here and in my 360 or PC. Creepy, cool, and stunning. *sweat* *pant* So awesome!

Hard Mode
It seems you can unlock the grayed out Hard Mode in the demo. Just do the following.

I finally got around to playing it last night and....Wow. Absolutely, gorgeous. I must've spent 20 minutes just swimming around in the beginning.
And the opening sequence as you travel through the city...just amazing. I think what I loved most about it was the ambient music that kept popping up. I don't know why, but I got a big kick out it. I was going to hold back on this one for a while, but after playing the demo, you better believe I'm picking this one up next Tuesday. |
It seems certain Toys R Us across the U.S. started selling Bioshock yesterday. Doesn't seem limited to the East or West cost.... [Via NeoGAF]
Also Toys R Us is offering a 20% off coupon for any one item bought in stores between Aug. 12 and Aug 18. |
I'm going to be another one who chimes in with a big !wow! Everything about that demo was just screaming BUY ME RIGHT NOW. I'm not normally a fan of retro-sci-fi, but the plasmid system has me intrigued. I was a huge fan of System Shock, and the game style is exactly what I'm looking for right now.
Did anyone else feel slightly queasy while playing? I did use the alcohol items a bit too much, but I got motion sickness bigtime halfway through the demo. |
No, no queasiness... isn't there another thread right around here about game-induced nausea? Anyways, yeah... love the demo, sure I'll REALLY love the game.
|
It was the Marathon download from XBL that made some folks queasy, including...me.
I've played through the Bioshock demo a number of times now and haven't noticed anything other than great anticipation. |

Do they all self destruct in August or what? |
Wow this game is getting good reviews. No, great reviews....99 on Metacritic right now, 9.7 from IGN, many are hailing it as game of the year already...I really wish I had a 360
|
I think we may want to change the thread title, or would it be safe to start a new thread?
Anyways, just last night I purchased my new PC. I admit, a large driving force was this game. That and a few recent past ones, and many future ones. I went from playing on this: And by tuesday (All came with 3 day shipping! for 11 bucks.) I'll be playing on this:
May my gaming be glorious. |
Damn, I am going to have to call MicroSuck to get my coffin so that I can get my 360 repaired. Good thing they extended the warranty. I have been looking forward to this game and now seeing that the reviews are good I think I have to get that box shipped off to be repaired.

Man this game looks to be worth getting a 360. Or I could just wait and get it for the PC. :-\
|
this game is fucking amazing. I've played the demo through twice, and I'm only stopping so I don't get "used" to it and don't see it as amazing anymore
graphics are so good, the atmosphere is unrivaled story is spectacular so far - the environments even help tell the story lots of Atlas Shrugged/Ayn Rand references - very cool I'm buying this game when it comes out |
I am going insane now! Turns out for my new PC, the CPU *AND* Graphics Card wont be in till WEDS..... Damn you UPS, damn you!
I refuse to play this game on my old rig that would require Medium-Low settings, bleh. |
I am with everyone here, I am definitely going to buy it when it comes out next week.
|
YaWhateva, no need to wait... I'm pretty sure the PC version launches the same day.

I took a lunch to go buy the thing. So, here I am sitting at my desk, reading the manual and going slowly mad because I have to wait a handful of hours to play the damn thing.
Sometimes it's a shame I'm so responsible. :expressionless: |
This game rocks. I'm still in the dark about what's really going on in Rapture but the story thus far has been very intriguing. The atmosphere is amazing. I wanna say it feels like Bladerunner meets LOST.
I've not fought any "bosses" yet but the regular old "cannon fodder" baddies seem more important than in other games. It's not like you're killing a foot soldier, you're killing someone else that's just trying to survive in this place. Sure they're crazy, deformed and genetically enhanced, and probably being mind controlled by the big boss, but they're just citizens... I felt horrible near the beginning of the game I went in a room..Spoiler: and heard yelling. After listening to it, it was some dude trying to get back in his house after the wife locked him out. He saw me and panicked.. So I killed him. Then his wife starts hollering back at him wondering what happened.. Then she saw me and panicked... so I had to kill her too.. It takes a unique game to make me feel bad for killing these two no named bad guys lol The AI is smart too. They'll take a few hits and when they're losing they'll get the hell out of there. They're very fast too. It's not easy at all to try to hit them when they're running for cover. I'll write a full review for the game when I beat it. |
I just got the game myself, and I must say, it is phenomenal. I decided to put it on hard for whatever reason and it actually is extremely hard. I've died countless times to those Big Daddies.
If you have an Xbox 360 and do not have this game, get it now. And do not get the game on the PC if your computer cannot handle the graphics setting on high yet. The visuals are a huge wow factor in the game. |

I just tried both, and I'm gonna say the 360 pips it at the post in most places. The higher res of my PC screen is about the only advantage - the water effects aren't as nice (and I have everything pumped to max, 1900x1200, runs silky smooth).

I fear I may never see my SO again.
I only went out for liquor and chinese food. I came back and he's dressed. "Did you go somewhere?" "Yeah, I went to go get that Bioshock game." Five hours later.... "This is really cool... here's the story babe, this rich mogul got tired of living in the real world.... dammit, I can't figure out which weapon will kill this bastard and steal the little girl's soul...." "You do remember tomorrow's my birthday, right?" "Mmmmhmmmm.... what babe?" Oh hell. It looks awesome on the PC. |
haha Fredweena... good luck! :)
|
Aww crap, I just realized this is the 360 thread.
I am quick as a bunny. The music is killing me. Even from the other room. Sounds awesome, have fun guys. And thanks for the well-wishes, xepherys. I fear I may need them. "Remember those reservations to Roy's? Sweetness... want me to call the girls and see if they can go out for my birthday instead?" |

Don't get me wrong, though - the difference is extremely minor. 42-inch at 1080i vs 23-inch at 1900x1200 ;) |
a large screen would make that game pretty spiffy :)
|
he came to bed at 6:30 am.
|
Got my 360 back on Thursday, and immediately popped in BioShock. This game is amazing.
|
I've only played it for half and hour and I must say, Bioshock easily warrants the purchase of a 360 and a screen capable of displaying it in it's 1080p glory. Easily, one of the best looking games I've ever played.
And wonderfully enough, the ambient music and such is almost too creepy. Great game. |
ARGHHH!
Missed a damn audio diary that apparently you only get one go round to get. Damnit! |
What happens if you get them all? Just an achievement unlock?
Also, has anyone beaten this yet? I'm like 45 minutes into Olympic Heights. I'm assuming I don't have much left to go. |
Quote:
However, once I learned there was an achievement (achievement whore that I am lately...) and that I had already picked up 96-97% of them anyway, I went through a downloaded list and found out that I missed one I can't go back for.... 45 minutes into Olympic Heights....You still have a bit, but you're almost there. If memory serves, there's Apollo Square, Point Prometheus and then the big finale. |
I believe that is correct - This game is pretty cool, just out of curiousity who rescued all the little sisters?
|
Quote:
I just finished the Fort whatever stage and have got everyone so far. The bonus you get for doing so is immense at this point. |
I saved them all, but only because, in the end, you get more adam than by harvesting them* and you get the "good" ending.
Of course, I haven't put together any numbers myself, but what I've read on the "teh Internets" is in general accordance with my experience. Saving all the little buggers I had no trouble maxing out all my tracks and buying a wide variety of plasmids and such my first run through. |
You get less Adam from saving them overall but you get other goodies including ammo, health/eve kits and plasmids. I beat the game already saving all of them and trying again on hard harvesting all of them. I heard there's a 3rd ending, going half and half with the Sisters. Can anyone confirm that?
|
I beat the game harvesting all of them. I actually wasn't able to buy everything at the Gatherer's Gardens though. I missed out on one Engineering Slot and several max Eve upgrades. I was practically full on everything else though.
I'll go through it again going 50/50 to check that out, Lokus. |
Heh, well you don't have to do it on my behalf. I'm probably going to make a separate save halfway through and play again saving all the rest from there on in. I got to say though, the harvesting sequence is damn creepy and disturbing.
Edit: According to this thread on Gamefaqs, there's only two endings. |
Quote:
You do get less adam.... I didn't notice that. I mean, I knew that you received less when you rescued them, but I thought the gift from Tennenbaum made up the difference. Hmmm. :hmm: Even rescuing the little darlings I didn't have any serious problem with the game on Normal. Like I said, maxed out slots, had ample goodies and such, which is odd because normally, I really stink at shooters on the console. |
The game is much more difficult on hard. I just started playing the game and I am doing so on hard, I must say, it is rather tough. The game is glorious though.
|
YaWhateva, are you saying you are playing it your first time through on hard and it's hard? If so, how do you know how MUCH harder it is than medium? ;-)
|

|
The first time I played it I put it on hard difficulty. I didn't even bother with medium. I harvested them the first time and I kinda rushed through it. Now I'm playing it again and really soaking up the world (no pun intended) and rescuing the Little Sisters. I also somehow missed my last PttP station for one of my weapons and a few audio diaries. I'm going through it with an audio diary guide this time though.
|
I saved most of the little sister's until the lady gave me the reward and after that I just harvested them for more atom's. The ending was rather odd, so if everyone here is saying there are three endings, I better play it on normal this time.
Yeah, I played it on easy, but it will still hard, so now normal is going to be extremely difficult, but oh well. I liked having the frozen plasmid level 3, it helped when fighting Mr. Fontaine. |
She gives you more than one reward, you know ;)
|
I think it's one reward every three saved Sisters

As soon as I figured out it was a "slow" fps shooter like System Shock 2 where you are rewarded for looking into every crack and crevice, I have been enjoying the game immensely. The atmospheres are fantastic, and I love the art-deco theme throughout. I've just started Arcadia level and its pretty damn frightening!
|
Useless tip of the day: If you use telekinesis to grab a dead splicer and throw it at another splicer or enemy, they instantly die, except for the Big Daddy's, they just get stunned for two seconds.
