PS1 Emulator for PSP?
Zxello's Challenge of the Day!
I'm looking for a PS1 / PSX Emulator for a PSP. I really want a PSP but a deciding factor is if I can find an emulator so I can play my final fantasy and vagrant story on the move! If anyone can help me find this stuff, hook it up, I will be most greatful!

I'm probably just going to keep typing until I run out of things to babble about and see how many people actually read this. I once ran down a hill, fell down and hurt my elbow; my mom said I would be ok, she kissed it and made it all better. I've run out of things to say now, so if you have read this whole thing, congratulations you get a gold star! |

As of this moment there are no fully capable PSX emulators for the PSP. There is a PSX emulator out there in development but in the meantime we can only wait.
If you want to play emulators or homebrew on your PSP, the longer you wait the worse off you'll be. If you're in the US or Canada you need a PSP with firmware version 1.50 (not 1.51, not 1.52, 1.50 period end of sentence.) which are quickly becoming harder to find; you may only be able to find a 1.5 PSP at a shop where they sell used systems. If you're in Europe, you're outta luck, only 2.0 PSPs are available across the pond, unless you find somewhere that will import PSPs. Also if you want to play emulators, games are coming out now that REQUIRE the 1.51+ firmware (Namco Battle Museum and Burnout Legends notably). So in the end it's a tradeoff. If you want to play your NES, Atari, Genesis, etc. games on your PSP you may have to do a little bit of work to get it (it's still not an easy plug-and-play type thing either to put homebrew on your PSP), and if you want to play any of the new games coming out, you'll be out of luck on homebrew. The 2.0 firmware is great though, with the web browsing capabilities and background changing abilities too. Oh, and it's only a matter of time until 2.0 is hacked (there's already a small exploit for it right now, it shouldn't be long until executable code can be... executed.) If/when you get a PSP feel free to contact me, as tutorials to PSP homebrew are a little thin. But here are some good sites to get started: www.psp-hacks.com www.pspupdates.com

This just in... Working 2.0->1.5 downgrader. Obviously if you really like the 2.0 firmware, this won't be big news to you... but those of you that got stuck buying something 1.5+ now have a choice.

![]() It bothers me that you pay all that money for a machine, but yet you don't own it. Sony's protective firmware is like selling you a car with the hood welded shut. |

Well the deal with homebrew is the licensing - Sony just wants money, just like any other company. If there are free games out there available to download, why would you buy Sony's games, especially if they're all $49.99 USD? Not only are they losing money that way, but licensing fees as well - any games for the PSP are licensed, not a single piece of homebrew is licensed.
In all honesty, until today (bought the Family Guy UMD), i haven't owend a single UMD game or movie for my PSP since I got it back in July. I've been playing NES emulators this whole time.

way to resurrect a really old, dead thread. Well for your information, there is a thing called Pandora Battery now that can help you downgrade to version 1.50 and then upgrade to any custom firmware you need/want. This is as long as you do not have a PSP Lite.
http://pspupdates.qj.net/ search there.
