PS3 Dual Shock 3!
YES. Sony scrapped that boomerang peice of crap controller and went with the traditional layout for their already sweet controller. The layout is the same as the Dualshock controller, except without the vibration. It's wireless but has the usb port in the front and it looks a little slimmer. check it out.
PS3 Controller update |
THANK GOD!!! I love the PS2 controler. It'd be funny if the PS3 tower ends up looking exactly like the PS2.

You missed the biggie - the tilt controls, or what does Sony call it, the "sixth dimension". It's like the Wii controller, but, well, different.
The Dual Shock 3 (can it be called dual "Shock" without vibration?) detects pitching forward/back, twisting left/right, and rolling left/right. It's a cool concept, but I have a feeling the Wiimote will be alot more intuitive and easy to control than the PS3 controller. |
it's not called dualshock. the controllers "lost the name and vibration" which is just fine with me given that the vibration was all of about useless in any game I played. just shy of gimmicky except for the fact that sometimes you are low on health or some crap. at least the pitch detection could be useful, except for those people who stand up, bend all the hell all over the living room, and throw their controllers across the room :D
I wasn't ever really opposed to the boomerang style. you could have easily used a dualshock 2-esqe controller via usb or wireless. this just limits our choices, and the new ones better be color matched. |
Unexpected but unsurprising. They've opened a huge door for Nintendo, though. The Wii goes above and beyond the rudimentary motion sensing in the controller (both parts of the controller are independantly sensed, woot!) and Sony are going to bring the idea into the more hardcore gaming market. Those that like it may find themselves with the urge to Wii...

I'm pretty hardcore into music games (Amplitude, Frequency, Mad Maestro, Space Channel 5, etc...) and the vibration feature sure helps in that genre.
But then the Wiimote makes me curious on how it could work with the music game genre... |
