Blue Ball Machine, in action (hopefully).   click to show

Jetée 05-10-2010 10:59 AM

I've also come up with a new rule (plus a bonus): my life now comes in sets of three.

Everything in three (is that called 'spades'?). Ah, it's 3 o'clock now in NYC.

PS
I know this will never catch on, but if only for the select minority here, if a .GIF animation is big enough (~400kb +) I will enclose it inside the [hide] tags to ease page load time.

That blue ball image,(yes it was moving) reminds me of a child-hood game:

Mousetrap. My siblings & I never 'played' the game. (Did anyone?)
We would just set it up to set it in motion.

Jetée 05-10-2010 11:42 AM

I played it once; it didn't work.

And I always used to forget the name of the contraption it was modeled after, until one day, I told myself to stamp it into my vocabularium: The Rube Goldberg Machine

(I've not actually seen this video before... but I did here news about its controvery. Controvery condensed: OKGo makes video. Band wants it to be seen. solution: Youtube. Problem arises: band's label disabled youtube embedding. OKGo went insane (I think)... they found some solution to the problem (I forgot what it was).)

PS
click play on the video and tell me if it prompts you to jump over to YT instead, to watch it. Maybe there was no solution. 12million+ views!

still backwards... at least I think so.

Ronald Binge .. "was a British composer and arranger of light music."

Something about waves appeals to me. Ocean waves, electromagnetic waves, gravity waves, sound waves, hello/goodbye waves, Navy Waves.

This "Sound Wave" was created by Korean artist Jean Shin.

Groovy depiction, and all the better that you allowed me to know the creator.

By the way, I've been gradually saving posts I've come across as "for BadNick", which pertain to topics I think you might like, but now I have to go look for them and show you what I mean... give me a minute.

Is that wooden roller coaster in the background? Is that rocket car parked in a handicapped parking zone?

Thanks for thinking of me, Jet.

Jetée 05-10-2010 06:57 PM

I just can't believe I hadn't posted it anywhere as of yet (actually, yes I can... in all aspects of my life, two wrods describe it: 'backed up').

It would also seem my "animespeak" resurrection didn't go over too smoove.

If you lived in the Dark Ages, and you were a catapult operator, I bet the most common question people would ask is, 'Can't you make it shoot farther' No. I'm sorry. That's as far as it shoots.

Well, before we got off-topic, I was hoping someone else would comment upon their own favorite version of Rube Goldberg contraption, then I, in turn, would post some more.

Glad to see you here, dlish.

Internal consistency,
which we don't have & can ill afford,
wouldn't suit us, anyway.

Jetée 05-11-2010 04:29 PM

I would wholeheartedly disagree with your sentiments.

We could all use a little order to our chaos, even it is just the smallest thing.
Adiitionally, I would never deem it as something that would be harmful to our approach, 'ill' or not.

(But, if we all are all thinking about what our post might contain, that does take a little while longer to finalize, thus delaying our speedy endeavor to grow.
Was this ever a speedy endeavor, though? I do that. Throw out hypotheticals to my own hypotheticals.)

Ourcrazymodern? 05-11-2010 04:34 PM

Check the statistics.
Reckon for yourself where's up.
I mean you no harm.

that you might react to that,
not unforeseen, still pleases wonder,
as we might, & hard enough.

Jetée 05-11-2010 04:43 PM

Yes. Indeed. I know no one cares.

Though, continue to perservere through this apathetic sea, I do. And if I can but please my OCD monster, even if it is in opposition to my OCM? monster, I do it for the benefit of all (that, too, sounds eerily familiar).

And, if I can look at not shy away in disgust to the nonsensical banter, but actually stop a moment and take in the wonder of that which I had forgotten, I've achieved my aim.

I have shared and experienced joy, two-in-alike. (just wish I could convince others to jump into the pan.)

Ourcrazymodern? 05-11-2010 04:54 PM

We're not competing.
I'm thinking you once knew this

And so, for a farewell and fond goodnight, I'll add the best and my favorite version of a Rube Goldberg contraption that is utilized in the conveyance and creativity of a music video.

(see? they follow the 'right' method to track identification)

BadNick 05-12-2010 11:41 AM

I hate to toot my own horn again, but I saved the life of at least one frog/toad. My favorite example is when my boys found a large snake with a big toad in it's mouth, already about half swallowed, and called me over to show me. I figured the snake can't bite with its mouth stuffed so I picked it up and a while later it finally spit out the amphibian, which we let go. After showing off the cool snake to their friends, we took it back where we found it and let it go, too. On the way back we encountered a very cool old woman, had to be about 90 years old, hiking in that park and when she saw us carrying the snake she made a big deal about it being an old "legendary" snake that's lived there for many years and we'd better not be messing with it...luckily we were already heading back to let it go or she might have set a spell upon us. In fact, either I'm getting old and keep repeating the same stories (just humour me, please) or she did cast a spell and I'm getting crazier by the minute.

Jetée 05-12-2010 11:48 AM

you are now humo(u)red. (I cannot recall if you told the above story before, here, or there, to us, previously.)

Good Humor by Photo Daddio

Also, I was once able to not save a frog / toad. When I was a young lad, a couple of neighborhood kids had uncovered a hopping critter in our local circuit of homes, and curiosity got the better of them. They picked up a nearly stick / log hybrid, cornered the creature, and went WHAM! Repeatedly, to the ground. I cannot accurately recall if I, too, took part in the stomping of poor Mr. Toad, but I did feel really bad afterwards.

Kids are not the darnedest. They're miniature sociopaths. (that's the fact, jack.)

BadNick 05-12-2010 12:58 PM

Well now that you opened this can of worms, I'll admit that I was going to elaborate on my above story with another one about saving a different frog/s. When he was about 10 years old, I found my psychopathic younger brother and his psychopathic friends pinning frogs to trees with pins. Then they got the brilliant idea of sewing their mouths shut and letting them go. I interupted this insane game with my best "big bully" attack, smacking them around, punching anybody who even seemed like they were objecting to my enforcements, and cursing at them for being such violent ass holes. After a few of them were crying, I told them to release their bag full of frogs and if I even catch them doing it again, there will be hell to pay. Lucky I wasn't too pissed off! I wonder if there are any frog princesses?

Jetée 05-12-2010 01:04 PM

You'd have to licked them to have found out. And there's another detail I seem to be findng out: as soon as a child turns 10 (4th grade) all decorum about language goes out the window. It's now horrifying to remember what I heard coming form the mouths' of my classmates, such foul language in which I have never heard in all my years, and that includes stints outside of a recruiting office, Black Studies class, Navy Rec yard, or some non-European prono. (was that spelling intnetional?)

Ourcrazymodern? 05-12-2010 02:13 PM

Spoonfeeding nonsense
to listenings, swallowing:
See what we tell us?

I enjoyed the music, Jetee, & the frog stories, Nick.
