Jet,
Please don't count your blessings before the chickens hatch. As far as I heard, some experts believe that the Devil actually inhabited Flash Gordon's soul prior to his last departure from Mars, and thus made his way to Georgia unbeknownst to most humans, except for Charlie Daniels. Some of these experts have reason to believe that the bacteria that causes tooth decay when you eat too much sugar, or marzipan, is actually the current form that the Devil has taken in his attempt to infiltrate the human genome.

All we can do is pray and brush every day.

BadNick 08-16-2009 01:56 PM

tophat...duck you

one day recently we saw a duck in the bushes outside our office and then a couple days later she was sitting on a few eggs under the bush. Then we noticed the hawk which patrols our area being quite interested. All of a sudden, the hawkie swoops down and torments the duck who fights back and chases the hawk away. A few minutes later, the hawk swoops in again and is now claws hooked into mother duck...we run out to save our dearie duck and chase the hawk away...though you may appreciate the hawk thought it was the local ruler, we are significantly larger and hawk was inspired to see our point of view. We kept a vigil and after a few hours the eggs were no longer under our bush, the mommie duck had moved her brood to a more secure location. And they live happily ever after.

ps: yesterday I had two duck rolls for my appetizer and they tasted quite familiar

it rains somewhat more often in Olympia WA than in Timbuktu

I know because my beloved daughter lives in Olympia where there is a strong, long tradition of progressive music and her band rvivr is quite progressive and not for the feint of heart or ear. Me being a vinyl advocate from pre-digital days, I'm heartened that they only produce themselves on vinyl. Later this year they're going on a tour and will be near you wherever you are. Here's them on youtube, live in Sacramento earlier this year, pt. 2 of 1 ...she plays the 'lectric bass

Good morning, Bob.

I'm freezing in August...

who want to help me rearrange the months so that September through December become months 7-10 again?

ring 08-18-2009 05:54 AM

...or we could pool our resources and head some place warmer.

Jetée 08-18-2009 06:03 AM

I still want to rearrange the months, and perhaps rename the days of the week, so that whenever I mention "Sunday", it's not construed by some omniscient God or business accountant as me worshipping another god who controls the Sun.

If we were to keep July and August, where would you place them? Months eleven and twelve; Months One & Two?

ring 08-18-2009 06:04 AM

11 and twelve I think.

No wait...

I think January and February should be the last two months of calendar, but still retain their seasonal affectedness. Winter is the last season, so why not have the months in which it is associated with be the last months as well? See, Jan. & Feb. would essentially still be in the right place in time on the calendar, but just be months 11 and 12. Although, I do like the whole history of "Janus" that's tied into the month, so perhaps January should be either month 12 or month 1.

July and August should perhaps be renamed. (but darn my affinity to attribute the name "August" to that of flowing winds and Autumn remembrances)

ring 08-18-2009 06:20 AM

Yes.

Jetée 08-18-2009 06:48 AM

I only have seven ulterior personalities, none of which I really give much credence, or food to, regularly.

Well, there is NobleTalent... I give him a bit more attention then the others. And Jetstream as well. Well, if those guys count (ones that have no real "post-card" names) then I may have 11 in all; 7 personalities that hail from 7 different regions, and 4 one-shot nicknames that I use to mask them.

One of my favorites is Ocean B. Graves, born Sep. 15 1983, associated colour, orange, a Virgo, and in the Year of the Dog. I forgot what country he is from, though.

Can you guess his middle name?

ring 08-18-2009 06:51 AM

Bottom?

No, but Longbottom is a perfect middle name for someone with an astounding display of mustachio'd manliness.

Morocco.
He could be a mime, as well.

Jetée 08-18-2009 07:17 AM

I had a dream last night in which this song was featured; I think it was an homage to graduating, because the authority in my dream said this was the last day to make an impression.

it first started off as a repetition of "man on the moon"... but I thought, that's not right; so it evolved into a "man on the run", but it still lacked that permanence.
Finally, I got it right: we were a "band on the run"

dew drop in...from Ocean City MD where I can now see the ocean, though only the top not the bottom, and it's ~90F today, clear and sunny. Count my vote to make the first day of Spring the first day of the "year"...and maybe forget about "months" though I like the historical connections. We could have the 3rd of Spring...the 2nd of Autumn, etc.

I'm about ready to head into the ocean, though no surf board since the waves here at this time of year are not worth the effort, though there are always a few die-hards out there on theirs having a nice little ride.
