bartending in chicago. i was working a friday afternoon shift at kincade's & she came in to celebrate the end of her internship.

a few extra shots of rumpleminze, a coaster with my phone number on it.......

15 years later we've got a great life with 2 boys, 2 dogs & a mortgage.

i always tell her she was the only one i ever wrote down my # for.

what are your plans for this summer?

Poppinjay 05-04-2006 12:19 PM

Pretty much the same as for Winter, Spring and Fall. Work. By June I should accumulate maybe 1 day off.

What sports did you play as a kid? I was on the track team and threw discus and shot put.

maleficent 05-04-2006 12:39 PM

I swam competively thru college... on both my high school and college swim teams (I was better for distance than at speed - 800 M Freestyle was my favorite and best event.(I'd probably drown now if I attempted it) I played t-ball and later softball thru college - I wasn't great at running bases but I had a great arm and was a pretty good pitcher....

When is the last time you went to a doctor for a check up? (I finally got some recommendations for where i'm living now and am going next week...)

BigBen 05-04-2006 01:35 PM

Was at the ol' Doc last week.

He told me that my hearing had gone down and my cholesterol was up.

/Shrug

At least I am still alive.

If you could have something named after you, what would it be? I think an International Airport would be cool...

Pilot: Ladies and gentlemen, we are about 5 minutes away from BigBen; I would like to remind you that your connecting flight will be leaving out of gate 5 C.

Poppinjay 05-04-2006 01:58 PM

But you already have the giant clock named after you. "Ladies and gentlemen, we are about 5 minutes away from BigBen" sounds like a terrorst attack. On time. Is it an attack because flights are rarely on time?

Why do you hate time? I hate it because it keep on tickin tickin tickin into the future.

nrclark 05-07-2006 02:46 AM

Sometimes i hate time, when im at the airport waiting, in a grocery store line up, at the drive through etc. (im terribly impatient)
Most time though, i enjoy every minute that im spending with people that i care about, living an incredible life that is charmed in every way ... (really!)

If you won the lottery, what charity would you donate to?

I would give to the "adopt a horse society". Its a place where all retired race horses are excepted into retirement and placed in good homes if possible. If no home is found, then that horse can live out his days in peace and comfort.

Charlatan 05-07-2006 03:37 AM

The grand charity of Charlatan's family. Depending on how much I won I would spread the wealth to my family (it isn't that large) and a little to some of my closest friends (a million to each friend wouldn't be too crazy if you have 80 million to start with). This is especially handy since most of my friends are imaginary.

After that dispersal, I would have to sit down and think about a charity. I'd probably support something like Medicine sans Frontier.

What are you going to be doing this lovely Sunday morning? I am about to make some coffee and then I'm going to read the paper (my wife took the kids to the stable with her this morning so I am solo).

nrclark 05-07-2006 07:41 AM

Im heading over to the race track to watch, (wager my hard earn'd moohlah), on the bob tail nag ... and if the hot tip comes in i may treat my self to some take-out. More than likely i'll be home sooner than expected eating peanut butter sammy ...
What is your favorite vacation destination?
Mine is Prince Edward Island, it was once said "if you cant relax there, you cant relax anywhere".

fresnelly 05-07-2006 10:52 AM

I'd have to say Western Europe, where I've been to France, Italy, Spain and England. It has great Architecture, food, culture and Art in spades. Just strolling around without a plan, soaking in the sights can be wonderful.

What song do you have stuck in your brain right now?

I have three.

Heart of Glass by Blondie
A theme from The Nutcracker
The theme from the gameshow Definition.

Grasshopper Green 05-08-2006 01:14 PM

Thankfully, none. I hate having songs stuck in my head, especially annoying ones like commercial jingles.

What commercial do you particularly loathe? I really, really hate those verizon can you hear me now ones.

maleficent 05-08-2006 03:34 PM

all commercials tend to annoy me... but the geico commercials and the dr scholls Are you jellin' commercials take the cake for me...

I got about 2 hours of sleep last night... in 15 minute increments... How much did you sleep last night... (Why'd I think a car coming at 4:30am was a good idea...3:30am is entirely too early to be awake...)

nrclark 05-08-2006 06:06 PM

Got about 6 hours straight sleep last night ... best sleep in over a week.
How many hours a week do you spend in front of this thing?
Me, im on several times a day for 15-20 minutes each time.

CaliLivChick 05-08-2006 07:12 PM

Well, 8 hours a day for work, then about 4 hours each night on weeknights, about 10 hours total for the weekend... total of 70 hours on the computer weekly.

How do you feel about the smell of gasoline at the pump?

Poppinjay 05-09-2006 01:40 PM

I kind of like it, but less ever since they put warnings on the pumps that the fumes could give you cancer of some sort.

If you could be an Earthly incarnated super hero (rules out Superman, Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel/Shazam), which would you be? Spiderman's current popularity has me thinking.

SirLance 05-09-2006 01:41 PM

I always identified with Silver Surfer... God knows why....

Do people often mispronounce your surname? They do mine!

maleficent 05-09-2006 01:57 PM

My surname is mispelled more often than it is mispronounced.. .my first name however, gets slaughtered regularly -- my own fault because I talk very fast - it's a slightly unusual name (though common elements) and people don't expect it - -so i get all sorts of derivitives of it... eh - it's a name... a rose by any other...

how often do you burn cd's? What's the last one you burned? I rarely do, except since my Ipod died, and i am too cheap to shell out a few hundred for a new one... I burn cd's regularly for travelling music because i get bored with the same stuff..

Toaster126 05-09-2006 02:05 PM

Yep. Mostly people try and add syllables. :)

How did you come across\pick your current avatar?

CaliLivChick 05-09-2006 04:31 PM

Mal - I don't burn CDs very often, and the last thing I burned was a DVD backup of some files.

Toaster - I don't have an avatar, and have been trying to figure out how to add one since I joined! If anyone can help me, that would be great. =)

Glasses or contacts?

maleficent 05-09-2006 04:46 PM

glasses.. since i was in the 4th grade (had contacs for a few years but my eyes are strange and don't like contacs..)

You'll get an avatar when you reach a certain level at TFP -- keep participating and soon you'll have an avatar...

I looking for an answer to a very important question... yes or no... what's the answer... I'm in the middle and can't make up my mind... so you do it for me.. thanks.

CaliLivChick 05-09-2006 04:56 PM

<channeling When Harry Met Sally>

YES!!! YES!!! Oh, God, YES!!!

Candlelight or moonlight?

fresnelly 05-09-2006 05:42 PM

Ooh, good question!

Both can be enchanting, but I say candlelight. While Moonlight quietly brings out the sparkle in one's eyes, candlelight dances as if alive, and shrinks your world to within but a few feet.

Did you ever injure yourself seriously on a playground at school? I can't remember a single incident that resulted in anything worse than the odd goose-egg.

CaliLivChick 05-09-2006 07:11 PM

I never injured myself on the playground. It wasn't until high school that I started getting injured. The most daring thing I ever did on the playground was jump/launch myself off the swing into the sand. Landed on my feet. Just like licking a 9-volt battery to test it, or licking your fingers to pinch out a candle. Looks scary, but once you do it, it's no big deal. =)

Side note to Mal - just got Tilted status! Yay!

So, how much longer until I can get an avatar?

Carno 05-09-2006 07:36 PM

I could give you an approximation based on your current amount of posts and your posts per day, but I won't because that wouldn't be fun :p

Keep posting and soon enough you'll get your own avatar.

When was the last time your hurt yourself? I hurt myself last night when I touched my knuckle to a fully heated soldering iron. Burnt flesh does not smell good.

But I already knew that.

kentucky_lady 05-09-2006 10:19 PM

last week at work, i accidently wacked my hand on a counter.

who invented toilet paper?

nrclark 05-10-2006 04:20 PM

T. P. invented ...

not really a personal question though,
found this for ya ...

*China…AD 1391 - The Bureau of Imperial Supplies began producing 720,000 sheets of toilet paper a year, each sheet measuring two feet by three feet. For use by the Emperors.
*USA…1857 - New Yorker Joseph C. Gayetty produced the first packaged bathroom tissue in the United States in 1857. The Gayetty Firm from New Jersey produced the first toilet paper named "The Therapeutic Paper". It contained an abundance of aloe, a curative addition. The company sold it in packs of 500 sheets for fifty cents, and Joseph Gayetty had his name printed on each sheet!
*USA…1890 - The Scott Paper Company is the first company to manufacture tissue on a roll, specifically for the use of toilet paper. Faced with the consumers' resistance toward the "unmentionable" product, Scott came up with the idea of customizing rolls for every merchant-customer they had. Under this private-label arrangement, Scott purchased large "jumbo" rolls of paper from various paper mills and converted them into packages of small rolls and stacked sheets.
*Great Britain…1880- British Perforated Paper Company

"Scott Paper was the first to market "rolls" of t.p."

Do you believe in Capital punishment?
I was always on the fence until "DNA" ...

CaliLivChick 05-10-2006 04:44 PM

Yes, I believe it exists, and I support it too.

Left or right?

nrclark 05-10-2006 10:47 PM

"(pssssst!) ... hey "chick", you have to answer your own question as we roll on, or else ya get your fingers smacked by someone upstairs ..." :icare:

i try to always be/go/do Right

whats one of the stupidist things you've ever done?

*I got drunk one time with a buddy of mine, (i mean REALLY drunk), and we climbed one of them "water towers" on college campus. Not too smart!

*just one of many stupid, stupid things

BigBen 05-11-2006 06:42 AM

My brother and I wanted to try and be Hollywood special effects wizards, so we took an old propane bottle and put it out on the pasture.

We then decided it was a good idea to help it out by putting some diesel fuel and nitrogen fertilizer (farmer's dynamite) under it.

We stood back and lit a homemade fuse. The fuse fizzled out.

We took turns shooting the ground under the propane with a .22lr. The explosion took out about 50m of fence, and the cattle wouldn't come to the water trough all day. My uncle was super-pissed. It was a miracle that we survived.

We had to spend a couple of weeks repairing fence (even the fence that we DIDN'T blow up... how's that for fair?)

If you could be a famous rock star or a famous movie star or a famous politician, which would you choose? Why?

I would be a politician. History is very kind to good politicians, and to have shit named after me and have kids study me in school would be pretty cool.

Charlatan 05-11-2006 07:08 AM

I would want to be a famous actor but that has more to do with my love of acting than wanting to be famous.

Have you ever felt suicidal? What led you to think about it and how did you keep from doing it. I have in the past but got over it (I don't think I was serious about it, just immature).

SirLance 05-11-2006 07:09 AM

I would be a movie star. Movie stars have long careers, make lots of money, and can engage in whatever sexual shenanigans they want and it actually IMPROVES their position.

edit: shute, too slow!

I've been seriously depressed (PTSD), but never to that point.

If you were to write a novel, what would you write about?

I think I would write all about growing up lower middle class and joining the army.

JustJess 05-11-2006 11:47 AM

I would write fantasy novels with really great characters and character development. I read everything, but when I consider stories to write, that's where my mind goes.

Do you know how big the uterus actually is? How big?
(I do!)

fresnelly 05-11-2006 12:35 PM

Okay, this story is not for the squeamish!

My son was born by C-section, and in the moments afterwards, the anethsetician said to me: "Hey, do you want to something you don't see everyday?"

The surgeons were in the process of stitching the incision closed, and were working on her uterus sitting outside of my wife's belly. They propped it up to show me. I was awestruck.

In that state, it looked about the size of a large wineskin. Normally, I think it's about the size of a pear, but I could be wrong.

Are you squeamish about surgery? Me, only with plastic and facial reconstruction surgery.

BigBen 05-11-2006 12:44 PM

Dude, I don't even do needles.

The nurse says "LAY DOWN! You are too big for me to pick up off of the floor!"

I don't do needles. There must be some needles in surgery. Knock me out before-hand.

What was the most painful thing you have felt (physically) in a while?

Me? My fucking back spasmed at lunch today. It is better now, but brought tears to my eyes.

Charlatan 05-11-2006 12:59 PM

The worst physical pain I have felt in a while? Probably when I got pierced, but it was over pretty quickly. No big deal in the end.

Have you ever really screwed up? What did you do to recover? I've recently made some major mistakes, I am still figuring out how to make it better.

maleficent 05-11-2006 02:20 PM

I'd go for the entire past year and then some... I'll let you know how I managed to recover from it - If I recover from it... It's been one major major mistake after another -and then another mistake to counteract the first mistake...

I'm stuck in ahotel room this week that has no outside windows... the window in the room overlooks the atrium and it's making me claustrophobic... In the past week I think I've been outside a grand total of 2 hours... It's making me go stir crazier... Do you ever get claustrophic if you can't see outside?

BigBen 05-11-2006 02:54 PM

Absolutely. Not just sunlight, but I actually need to see the outdoors. I totally sympathize with you, Mal.

What is your favorite scent?

I love fresh ground coffee. Oh, and clean puppies. Clean puppies smell good. Weird, huh?

CaliLivChick 05-11-2006 03:05 PM

My favorite scent is fabric softener. It reminds me of home (only 14 days left!)... and no, liking the smell of clean puppies is not weird. =)

What color is your sofa/couch? Mine is tan (boring) with a leopard print blanket thrown over it for comfort/style. Thanks, nrclark, for the nudge. =)

Charlatan 05-11-2006 04:12 PM

I have four different couches in my house. The main one is grey (and was once sat on by Patrick Stewart when they were filming XMen in Toronto).

ARe you a patient person? I am generally a patient person but lately I have been getting a bit impatient.

maleficent 05-11-2006 04:18 PM

It was once said about me that I had the patience of a saint - that nothing ever bothered me... lately -- my fuse has gotten much shorter and my patience level is at an all time low... It's lately become an aerobic activity to wrassle with my self to prevent me from telling off some people...

I"m going to need an excuse soon-- what's your best, most beleivable excuse, for taking the day off of work, when just saying I'm taking a personal day won't cut it... I really have no one that I can kill off to attend a funeral..

Grasshopper Green 05-11-2006 04:41 PM

Stomach flu. No one wants a person with stomach flu to come anywhere near work, lest it get spread around. Not to mention, you won't be very productive sitting in the bathroom all day.

Do you collect anything? I used to collect small decorative boxes. I'm thinking that I might start collecting vintage shoes because I've always loved funky shoes.

fresnelly 05-11-2006 04:47 PM

I would suggest something to do with burst plumbing. There's nothing like catastrophic water damage and a late, expensive plumber to demand your attention and garner sympathy. The possiblilities are endless: Isn't your dishwasher past its warranty? And I heard your upstairs neighbour has a leaky bathtub drain. And doesn't your sprinkler system go off with the slightest rise in temperature? And where the hell has your Super been these days. ;)

Any camping plans this summer? We're looking at a weekend in a Provincial park on Georgian Bay in August. I cant' wait.

CaliLivChick 05-11-2006 05:34 PM

I collect thimbles. My mom is a travel agent, and she wanted to be able to get something small for my sister and I wherever she went. My sister collects spoons.

I'm not really a camping person. However, I am going to a cabin in a very secluded area of Northern California (almost to Oregon) for Memorial Day Weekend.

What is your favorite televion show? I've become hooked on How I Met Your Mother, and it is the only show where I actually laugh out loud every episode.

nrclark 05-12-2006 06:25 AM

You just cant beat the Simpsons in my opinion, (the past couple of seasons have been spotty, for humor, but over all its consistently Hilarious!)

What would be your last meal?

Mine would be a 16 oz. barbeque'd rib steak, with lobster, a cherry cheese cake and a ice cold pepsi ... i'm getting hungry

BigBen 05-12-2006 06:49 AM

I would look at the Warden and say "I'll have what the President of the United States is having."

Are you a good swimmer? I'm not. I look like a dog humping a football when I am in the water.

CaliLivChick 05-12-2006 08:30 AM

I have been in the water since I was six weeks old... I love swimming, the water (have to be near it), oh, and yes, I am a good swimmer. =)

When I was moving across the country the first time (CA to FL), we stopped somewhere in Texas to get gas and food. While we were checking out, the clerk noticed the 15' moving truck with my car on the trailer on the back, and asked where we were moving to. I told her we were going to Florida. She said (and this is not indicative of all Texans, I know) "Aren't you afraid of being near all that water?" I told her that I was moving from California, and would feel lost without being near an ocean. But that's not my best stupid person story (hey, is there a thread on that already?)....

What is your favorite sound? I would have to call a tie between rain on a tin roof (reminds me of my grandmother's place), and the sound of pots and pans being taken out of the cabinets on a weekend morning when I'm staying at my mom's house (the smells of breakfast usually follow shortly).

777 05-12-2006 05:47 PM

I have two faves too. It would be the sound of lightsabers clashing and the sound of drywall as my fist goes through it.

I'll make a pb and j sandwitch when I'm hungry. What do you eat when you have a case of the munchies?

Toaster126 05-12-2006 08:33 PM

I collect turtles. I'm not really sure why, but I do. My most unusual one is probably an ocharina that is turtle shaped.

What is your favorite sexual position?

CaliLivChick 05-13-2006 08:28 AM

777 - Depends on my craving (the joys of being a woman). Sometimes it's chocolate, sometimes it's something carby, sometimes it's salty, just depends on the craving.

Toaster126 - Favorite sexual position is doggy style... great access for both of us. =)

What do you do when you're happy? I have a tendency to jump up and down, all giddy at the initial excitement.

maleficent 05-14-2006 08:42 AM

i can't recall the last time that I was truly happy without having something else bring down that happiness... it's always something... I'm not sure, I'm not the jump up and down type... Smile maybe? sing?

After three solid days of rain -- and no end in site according to the weatherman - I'm contemplating building an ark and gathering animals... How's the weather by you?

CaliLivChick 05-14-2006 09:13 AM

It's off and on rainy, but that's Florida summer for you. Right now, it's sunny and humid, but there were thunderstorms a few days ago (love being inside and hearing the rain and thunder).

What do you use when washing your clothes? I use laundry soap, OxyClean, and fabric softener.

nrclark 05-14-2006 12:26 PM

Generic laundry detergent, and then a bounce sheet in the dryer

Where do you plan on spending your retirement?
I plan on having a small cottage somewhere overlooking the ocean on Prince Edward Island ...

Grasshopper Green 05-14-2006 04:19 PM

If I had my druthers..I'd spend it in Mexico. Hubby and I have decided that that's the place for us :D

I never sleep well Sunday night before the work week begins again. How about you?

SirLance 05-14-2006 04:33 PM

I sleep great, but I lead a very active lifestyle, so when bedtime rolls around, I'm ready to hit the sack!

Were you ever between a rock and a hard place at work?

I have to deal with someone who is in a very bad situation personally and professionally. As their manager, it makes it difficult... I understand and empathize, but we have a business to run and goals to meet as well.

AVoiceOfReason 05-14-2006 07:05 PM

Happens to me often--having to make hard choices. I'm an attorney.

Did you ever study a martial art? I just started taking Tae-Kwon-Do about a year ago, as my son studies it, and it was something we can do together.

CaliLivChick 05-14-2006 07:47 PM

No, never did study a martial art. Took a self-defense class once in junior college... watch out, I might actually remember some of it! =)

What does the color purple symbolize to you? To me, it represents royalty, beauty, and passion.

mixedsubstance 05-14-2006 10:03 PM

To me, it symbolizes mystery. passion is another good description when I think of or see the color. Depends on the shade. To me- the deeper the shade, the more mysterious.

What kind of personality traits of yourself (good or bad) can you stem from your upbringing or past relationships? Do you think that the way you are today is because of how you were raised?

CaliLivChick 05-14-2006 10:14 PM

Ooh!!! My best one is from a past relationship (and I'm very proud of how things turned out... not exactly proud of how I got here, but the ends justify the means). I'm not a jealous person. I used to be. I was the crazy, psycho, stalker girlfriend who latched on, made one man in particular my entire life, and lost my identity completely. My insecurity made me latch on even more, and the vicious cycle ensued. When I broke it off with him for the last time, that was the end of that nasty behavior, and I haven't been jealous since. =)

It's late, and I can't think of a good question off the top of my head, so if you could think of a question that you would love to answer, what would it be, and what would the answer be?

maleficent 05-17-2006 10:26 AM

Ok.. so the question that you would have asked had you not been sleepy.. .is HOW do you make a decision?
I make a decision by listing out the plusses and minusses for each choice and deciding from there which is the lesser of two evils and go with it.

I have a big decision coming up, and I honestly haven't made up my mind yet which way I'm going... my usual method isn't working because no matter which way i go, i'm going to let someone down and they are going to be disappointed... I'm not good with that at all.. and i avoid it at all costs, often at the expense of my happiness.

How do you deal with disappointing other people?

BigBen 05-17-2006 10:49 AM

Disappointing other people makes me sick to my stomach. No, seriously. I get violently ill, almost as if I have heartburn.

I lose sleep, trying to make ammends and fretting about what I should have said or done. I then over-compensate, sacrificing my own personal good and well-being so that the person forgets about my disappointing them.

Sheesh. Talk about something I need to work on.

Do you have a favorite card game? Can you find online rules and link them here please? Mine is Texas Hold'em. If you don't know the rules, please turn off your computer and turn on ESPN. I am sure they are showing it right now.

CaliLivChick 05-17-2006 03:50 PM

My favorite card game is 52-card pickup. :D

When you moved out to be on your own, how far from your family did you go and why? I moved across the country to help out/spend time with my then best friend and her two sons (but I get to visit home in 8 days!!!).

Poppinjay 05-17-2006 06:44 PM

I moved from North Carolina to Kansas. No more shall be said about that.

What are you dreading? I'm dreading a visit this weekend which includes my codependent uncle.

maleficent 05-18-2006 02:31 AM

the phone call at 2:00pm this afternoon when Ihave to make up my mind - and i have absolutely no clue as to what i'm going to do...

Lately I have this complete fascination with cranes... ya know those big ole things that are used on construction sites to assemble even bigger buildings... Part of my fascination with them, is I have no idea how they get built... they seem to magically grow out of the ground out ofa great big concrete block... they also appear overnight it seems... They seem too large to transport by truck- some are 10 stories high or taller... I'll figure it out...

What's your random fascination?

CaliLivChick 05-18-2006 07:33 AM

Along the same lines... whenever we'd go down to visit my dad's family in San Luis Obispo, they have these machines along 101 that I think are going down for oil or water or something, but my sister and I called them hammerheads, because their heads looked like they were almost hammering into the ground.

When you get sick, what makes you feel better? I'm a fan of a warm blanket, the TV remote, a bottle of Gatorade, and someone to take care of me.

nrclark 05-22-2006 03:23 AM

My bed ... just my bed

Do you have any children?
I have a wonderful (but full of attitude) sixteen year old daughter

maleficent 05-22-2006 04:15 AM

Nope... (my mother said to me when I was in my teens, may you have a child just like you are... at that point... god decided that it wouldn't be fair to punish me .. with me... so he said -- nope no kids for you lady... )

The canadians have a long weekend this weekend (victoria day?) and the us has along weekend next weekend (memorial day), How did/Will you spend the long weekend, if you indeed get a long weekend (I spent too many years in retail working every holiday known to man) Me? No plans... got nothin' to do at all... and really don'twant to do anything.

healer 05-22-2006 05:03 AM

Our next public holiday is Youth Day, on June 16th. It falls on a Friday so it becomes a long weekend. Mandy and I will probably do something together and there's a chance a friend of from outta town will come down for a visit, but no plans yet.

When I was 9 or 10, I stole 13c from my piggy bank and went off to buy sweets. Obviously my parents found out where I'd got the money and I got a whoopin' so bad I remember it to this very day.

When you were a kid, did you ever get caught stealing?

maleficent 05-25-2006 04:30 AM

Nope, never stole anything, because if i got caught, i wouldn't have lived to tell about it.

when's the last time you had a bandaid on any part of your body.

Currently I'm sporting a sponge bob bandaid on my top of my index finger on my right hand... hurts like hell to bend it... I have some very sharp knives in my kitchen because sharp knives are supposed to prevent injuries... (dull knives can slip and cause cuts) Well I'm a klutz and clearly should be using plastic cutlery because i was washing a knife in the sink last night, it slipped in the soapy water and came down on my index finger... I have a half inch gash on my finger now - bled like a stuck pig... wasn't fun.. but sponge bob is cool..

Grasshopper Green 05-26-2006 04:50 PM

I have a bandaid on my finger right now...to keep a wart disc on, not because I have a boo boo. Damn warts.

Do you use ebay? I use it occassionally, mostly to peruse vintage shoes, which is quickly becoming my newest obsession.

Poppinjay 05-26-2006 07:45 PM

No. I like to go and look.

How long has it been since somebody broke your heart, and are you better off now?

<- 6 years ago, and yes.

Toaster126 05-27-2006 04:29 AM

I have never had my heart broken. Hopefully that will not change.

What is the one thing about you that others would be surprised to learn about?

maleficent 05-27-2006 04:43 AM

Too many things... especially lately... when I haven't had a conversation with anyone that's remotely person in months... but i'd go with how indecisive I am...or how intolerant I can be...

what's your least favorite household chore?
mine would be taking out the trash... cause it means getting dressed, putting on shoes (which I hate), packing up the trash, leaving my apartment andlocking the door, walking outside, and downt he hill to the dumpster and then walking back up the hill and unlocking two sets of doors to get back in...

Ample 05-27-2006 05:44 AM

IM a total clean freak, vacuuming, moppin, and cleaning the bathroom every week, the whole shabang. Dusting though I hate it. I only do it maybe once a month. Dust seem to like to play hide and go seek. I hate that game.

What was the angriest letter you never sent?

nrclark 05-27-2006 06:18 PM

Arn't we supposed to answer our own questions also?

One time when my current girlfriend and i were taking "a break" i wrote down some things that i never sent to her ... when we got together again, we both sat down and went over it, and turned some of the negative things itto positive things.

When you have some free time on your hands, what do you do to relax?

In the summer, i like to hop on the motorbike and go for a nice slow drive in the country. in the winter i'm a couch and tv kinda guy.

itch vaccine 05-28-2006 05:25 PM

Sit in front of the computer and browse my mp3s, surfing a tech forum, looking at gadgets, feeling the breeze of the a/c, looking at the lava lamp, doing occasional skratches on the dj set, and play DotA.

Talk to the girlfriend. :)

What's the sweetest thing you've ever done for Mom?

I told her I loved her on Mother's Day. In the family, hardly anyone says it. So I guess that's sweetest so far :)

Puddintane 05-31-2006 07:56 PM

last week I drove to see my mom in the ICU at 1 in the morning, 5 hours away. It was one of the scariest, but sweetest moments of my life. She is fine now!

Apple or PC? We have a divided household. I'm on the PC.

SirLance 05-31-2006 09:39 PM

We have a PC, but my wife is a Mac bigot. She uses one at work.

What's your pet peeve? Mine's rudeness. It doesn't take that much effort to be polite.

Poppinjay 05-31-2006 09:59 PM

Rudeness has many forms, and I think all of my pet peeves are tied to them. I guess that chief two would be related to bablies, keeping them in normally quiet areas while they are crying, and using their strollers to bull your way through a crowd.

I kid you not, my wife and I went to a weekend festival where there were two seperate couples who left the baby with someone else, but brought the stroller to navigate crowds.

That, and strollers that are now approaching the size of some European cars.

When was the last time you had to let down an unrequited crush? Me, college.

little_tippler 06-01-2006 02:52 AM

Me, twice in the past few months. Sometimes if I'm just naturally nice some guys seem to think that's a form of encouragement.

When was the last time you really had a good time?

I went out last weekend dancing and had the best night out I've had in absolutely ages. I thought maybe I just didn't have it in me anymore but I was wrong! ;P

fresnelly 06-01-2006 05:31 AM

Last week on vacation in France. A highlight was on our second last night, in Paris, when my wife's parents looked after our son. We so rarely get out at night together, and being able to do so in Paris was wonderful. We took the metro up the to the far end of the Champs de Lessay, and then strolled back downtown, eventually settling in at a cafe in the Left Bank for some sublime coffee and creme brulee. We're so spoiled. :) I'm still on a bit of a high.

What is first on your list of dream vacation spots? I'd very much like to see the Alps.

maleficent 06-01-2006 05:38 AM

i'm a low maintenance kinda gal... i want a cabin in the mountains, with a fresh water lake nearby (that's super clean for swimming) with Mondak's beer fridge, a grill in a covered area, a king size bed with a down comforter, fire place., A/C , plasma screen television, DVD player and tons of movies and a T3 connection with a computer... maybe someone to share it with...

I've been to so many places that people would consider dream vacation spots, Tahiti, St Barts, most of the carribbean, Australia, Europe... I'm over it - I want simplish..

What is the strangest thing on your desk right now?
I have a train ticket from the LIRR and a train ticket from the DC Metro... and I live in NH... they were at the bottom of my bag and haven't made their way into the trash yet...

Poppinjay 06-01-2006 12:44 PM

My desk is disturbingly mundane. In the past, I've kept a dahla horse, which I could go get right now. In fact I will. http://www.lindsborg.org/wild_dala.htm

When and what was the last new year's resolution you kept?

I don't think I've kept any. Ever.

777 06-07-2006 11:09 PM

I don't make New Year resolutions. Why wait until we change the calander to improve ourselves?

Ain't this the coolest thing ever (in a geeky way)
http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/input/8193/ ?

I don't know about you, but this reminds me of the Final Fantasy Movie...

little_tippler 06-08-2006 05:29 AM

Damn! That's pretty awesome, if a little pointless except for saving room. Now I want one.

Do you ever feel claustrophobic, just hypothetically?

I tend to think I'm not but when I imagine the subway stopping for an hour at rush-hour with me in it I kind of feel panicky.

maleficent 06-08-2006 05:35 AM

I never used to... I lived in NYC for years and rode the subway in extreme crowds... until one night, I had gone to the San Generro Festival, a very cool street fair, and it was so crowded, I literally got swept up in a wave of people and totally lost my friend who i was with, then I tripped and got walked on by a few people (who couldn't stop because of the crowd) Someone, I have no idea who, helped me up and got me out of the crowd because at that point I was having trouble breathing...) I thought I was Ok... but a few months later I went diving.... and had to surface pretty quickly because I got that same feeling of not being able to control where i was and have not been able to dive since and now it's even worse I can't be in a crowded area unless I have a clear shot at the door to get out...

What's your biggest irrational phobia?
i am creeped out by clowns.. and will cross streets to avoid them... they just give me the heebie jeebies...

Grasshopper Green 06-08-2006 05:58 AM

Irrational? I guess that would have to be dogs. I was absolutely terrified of them as a child and like you with your clowns (which seems to be a more common phobia than I realized...I know several people with the same one), I would cross streets or add extra blocks to my voyage just to avoid them. I've gotten better with the phobia as I've gotten older, but large dogs, certain breeds, and very loud dogs still scare me.

Do you use the phonebook? I rarely do anymore, I tend to look up things on the internet and usually end up having to hunt for the phonebook on the rare occasion that I do need it.

AVoiceOfReason 06-08-2006 01:26 PM

Yes, I use the telephone directory all the time. At the moment, I'm on vacation and have used it for maps and other information I've wanted.

Do you like to read murder mysteries? I read a lot of books about attorneys, and many of them involve someone accused of a murder they didn't commit. That's not quite the same as the genre where the detective figures out "whodunit" but it's pretty close, as the attorney has to figure out who instead of the accused did the crime.

maleficent 06-08-2006 05:29 PM

When I was a kid I used to love Ellery Queen and Agatha Christie -- now, for fun I do like the legal thrillers, I like murder mysteries but I like a little more of a story to 'em... it's pure brain candy but it's fun to read - espcially now tha summer is coming.

Are there any words, that if a gun were held to your head, you would not be able to spell? Mine would be Recco - recomend - reccommend - Whatever- Suggest...

777 06-08-2006 10:26 PM

Refriderater. Which is an irony, since I sell fridges part time :)

If you became a street performer, what would be your act? I'd use my kung fu training to do a few stunts and teach a few moves too.

Grasshopper Green 06-17-2006 07:37 AM

I always wanted to learn how to make ghastly, silly hats out of balloons. I guess it's not a street performer per se...but it's close enough.

What did you have for breakfast? I had scrambled eggs, sausage, and some ripe, beautiful strawberries. MMmmmm..ripe strawberries.

Charlatan 06-17-2006 09:50 AM

I had a cafe mocha... made with my stove top espresso maker and some really good hot chocolate.

Then I forgot to make food...

What are you doing for Father's Day? I will be getting breakfast in bed followed by a round of golf and then dinner with my Father in law.

avocette 07-09-2006 12:21 AM

I think we were very optimistic as monkey relatives inventing Father's Day.
Mother's Day and maybe Oldest Child in the Family Day for most of us would be more realistic. However, it's a thought for the future. Glad to hear someone is celebrating in style. I usually just hope no one asks me that question-hide out until Father's Day is over. :-o
What would you consider fairly permanent gained ground for the human race?

jimk 07-18-2006 11:09 AM

MILD political correctness.

not the trendy kind that doesn't allow you to say anything (good or bad)about anybody of a different race or gender, but the subtler form that makes you look like a total moron for uttering racist, sexist jokes or slurs.

when was the last time you started using the bathroom before noticing there wasn't any toilet paper?

777 07-19-2006 09:16 PM

The day before yesterday. It's a curse in our household. You can hear someone calling for toilet paper from the bathroom at least weekly.

Paper, sissors, or rock?

Rock!

shesus 07-30-2006 07:48 PM

I prefer paper. And now I win. :) Paper covers rock.

What is the strangest thing you saw this week?

While driving through Wisconsin, we spotted a small cross on a hillside in the middle of nowhere with a hat resting on top of it.

Gilda 07-30-2006 09:08 PM

I walked into the kitchen to find my sister, the genius medical student, frying bacon in a sauce pan with an empty skillet hanging from the rack above her.

What is "your song" if you have one? For Grace and me it's "The Shape I Found You In" by Girlyman.

Gilda

Favorite State/Province?

-Doesn't get better than California for me.

hotzot 07-30-2006 11:54 PM

I think the state of bliss is my favorite.

Are you a self starter? Or do you need a push?

fresnelly 08-18-2006 04:21 PM

The best motivation for me is a looming deadline, so I guess I'm not much of a self-starter.

What do you think of the name "Hannah" for a baby girl? I like it.

ngdawg 08-18-2006 06:34 PM

It's a nice old fashioned name that fits both baby and adult (can't stand all those 'ey' names, like Tracey, Ashley, etc. An 80 year old Tracey? *gag*
I wouldn't name a girl Hannah if the last name was Barbera though.:D

If someone has something odd on them, ie; paper stuck to their back or they have their fly down, would you inform them even if they're a complete stranger?

maleficent 08-19-2006 06:26 AM

I've done it more than once.. sometimes I get a thanks -other times I get a mind your own business.. the only time i won't if it's some male with his fly down.. I don't want them to think i'm checking out their packages... :D

When did you last do laundry and do you separate your colors?
I did laundry last night and stuffed everything into one load.. I'm cheap.. :D
