Canucks Fans Cheer for Someone Else in the Playoffs
 

Well, it's a bit late for the start of the season, but right now we're 5-1-1, not too shabby, let's keep it up!

How do you guys feel about the squad this year? Any chance for the cup?

Personally I think we're solid enough, but I still worry about Cloutier... maybe this year will be the year he finally decides to be the man.

Cloutier seems to be the weak point of the team, hopefully he can pull it together. While I'm a Leafs fan at heart, I do like Van, they always show up to play. Glad to see Bert back doing his thing.

If the Leafs don't take the cup then hopefully the Canucks will, any Canadian team but the damn Senators, I'm live Ottawa surrounded by Sens fans, jesus they make me sick. It's pathetic I even like the Habs more than the Sens and I've always hated the Habs.

Granted the Canucks are a team located in Canada, is everyone posted about their team in their location's forum; tilted sports would be a pretty lame and boring forum.

I'm Canadian grew up around london ontario, about half way betweed detroit and toronto, but grew up closer to detroit (local tv broadcasted every game) than the leafs. So I am a dehard wingnut (season tickets in 87! well my parents did), I always cheer for any canadian team if it does not involve my wings. Vancouver being at the top of my list.
You guys have a great team, I like how the sendin twins are playing. All the grinding is gone and is really let them skate more. But like you said Cloutier is probably not gonna win you a cup. But you never know, look at Osgood, he was similar to Cloutier, awesome at times, but usually average or worse, but he some how won a cup. I am still amazed at that one.

I really like Cloutier..... one of my favourite goalies. I think that he is more sound this year than in past years.... but we'll see at the end of the season.

I was thinking the same about the Canucks. They may have a great record, but the fact that they are winning is more due to Jovanovski playing incredible and secondary scoring waking up. Wait till Bertuzzi gets his game back, or the defense settling down. This is a team that is still not playing anywhere near where it should be.

So as a big Canucks fan I wanna know, am I the only one who is NOT a big fan of Crawford?

I too, bleed Blue. But being realistic, I don't see the 'if' at the beginning of your second paragraph. It's a definite that this year the Leafs wont take the cup.

BUT I do agree with every last one of your other sentiments. I Like the habs better than the Sens. I find nothing more arrogant than a Sens fan.

I like Vancouver to take it all. They have been my fav team (other than the hometown requirement) since back in the green & white hockeystick jersey days..

Well, maybe, maybe not. The Canucks are not in the strongest division, and the ARE playing remarkably well, even clean hockey. If they can keep playing their game, and keep some distance between themselves and the other teams in the division, they're in the playoffs come spring.

Now, in the playoffs it may come down to goaltending, gawd knows it has in the past. But don't forget, the Flames won the cup in 89 with Mike grab-me-a-beer-and-I'll-pretend-I'm-for-real Vernon, quite possibly the most mediochre goalie in NHL history. Alas, they also had Terry Crisp and one of the biggest and strongest teams in the league at the time, so Mikey got off lucky.

Maybe the Canucks can take a page from that book.

Or, they could buy a goalie.

Either way, I can't slag them too hard when I look at the record.

Went to the ol' timers hockey game in Calgary last night. They were having a silent auction and being that no one wanted to bid on this nice little article I thought I'd give it a new home.

My brother in law does all the Canucks eye testing so it is being shipped to Vancouver for an autograph then will be framed.

RW Todd Bertuzzi's name keeps coming up in rumors. The Rocky Mountain News says he could be headed to the New York Rangers, while the Edmonton Journal believes the Florida Panthers would give up RW Nathan Horton and D Mike Van Ryn to get him.

Nathan Wiltse sends in the following: " Todd Bertuzzi could be on his way to the New York Rangers, says the Rocky Mountain News, though the paper doesn't mention who might be heading to Vancouver in return. The Rangers do have room under the cap, with a player or two heading to Vancouver, to accomodate such a trade. The paper also notes that Dominic Moore, brother of Steve, plays for the Rangers. The Edmonton Journal throws the Florida Panthers into the Beruzzi mix, suggesting that Nathan Horton and Mike Van Ryn would get the Panthers in the ballpark.

From "Jim" comes the following rumour: "An article on tsn.ca mentioned that the Edmonton Journal lists Florida as a likely destination for Todd Bertuzzi with Nathan Horton and Mike Van Ryn mentioned as going the other way. Florida has plenty of cap room to absorb Bertuzzi's hefty salary and it was Mike Keenan who brought him to Vancouver in the first place. Keenan always has a big forward that he likes to haul around with him from team to team (remember Adam Creighton?). Vancouver would add depth at defence, a power forward with upside and save more than $3m on the cap, allowing them to make another addition prior to the trade deadline."

Hey I missed last night's game, how WAS auld last night? 4GAA seems kinda unimpressive just off the scoresheet.

I dunno guys, I'm one of those fellas that HOPES Nonis swings something for Luongo. I like Cloutier, and I like Auld, but lets face it; we've NEVER had a goalie that can singlehandedly steal a game. At least not since McLean in his prime. Biron's name has been thrown around, but I put him on the same page as Clouts. The only other name being bandied around at the moment is Brodeur at the deadline, and thats about as likely as Gretzky donning skates for the playoffs IMHO.

great game...few penalties....lottsa hits and wicked goaltending on both ends of the rink.

Great game against the flames.... We look pretty flimsy right now though.

The flames vs nucks game was a good one.
Both teams played well and deserved to win.
the refs. they made decent calls throughout the game. of course they are human.
Bertuzzi (i think) got a got a penalty when his stick was on a flames and the flames player stumbled and fell. IMO it shouldnt of been called.
I also dont think the flames goal that was called back should of been. I dont think linden falling was a penalty.
Bertuzzi wasnt really interfering w/ kipper, so that goal should of counted IMHO, although they got the goal the very next play, still on the PP, so all that did was take more time off the clock.
Husalius holding @ the end of the game was non-existent (atleast to tv eyes) maybe the ref saw something no one else could. which led to the flames to get desperate in the final minutes and take anouther stupid penalty in the final minute.
those are just a few of the bad calls that I believe the refs made.
As you can see they went both ways throughout the game, the ones against the flames were just @ more crucial times and the nucks capitalized.

Temp.....every point you made is spot on man........fuckin' refs this year are making or breaking the games.


all in all.......if the players hit and play hard,...................damn good hockey.

Realistically, Auld can't be blamed for a lot of those goals and defensive breakdowns + poor discipline are murdering us, but the fact of the matter is that if you are going to win in the playoffs you need to have a goalie that can occassionally steal a game for you. And Auld is not that goalie YET. Don't get me wrong, he's going to be a starting goalie and a damned good one, but throwing him in the fire like this is not helping his advancement.

Linden played an incredible game, and provided the leadership needed. I still truly believe that this is what the team is lacking, a strong standup leader. Lets hope he can keep the ball rolling.
