First Time Ive Seen This in On.
Gas Finally Hit $1 Here... last night at about 2 am when it changed went up to 102.1... I know i shouldnt be complaining its higher in other provinces. but.. fuck.....
|
Holy goddamn fuck!
3 years ago! I only had to paid 20 fucking bucks and now, it has more doubled |
Quote:
Poor guy beside me at the other pump had to fill his Expedition. No idea what the final number was but he was at $75 and counting! |
wtf. I can only dream of prices like that. I know I shouldn't be posting here since I live in Florida but the current price here today is 2.51...for unleaded.
GAH! |

I take the bus. |
Heh, silly American!
;) |
My tank only holds 30 litres, So i put in like 20 dollars at a time and still get pretty much a full tank.
Highest i seen it here in kitchener was couple days ago at 99.4 cents/Litre, I almost pissed myself. I get really good gas mileage and it's a 3 to 4km drive to work. Those poor SUV drivers  |
I'm paying £0.99/litre for 98octane unleaded.
There are about 4.5litres per gallon, and about US$1.50 per £1. So that means that I'm paying about US$8 per gallon. Ouch.... |
Quote:
Just a little less ;) |
1.06 here...
People are actually talking to the gas attendants now, like they need personal comfort when filling with gas. Will this stop the Expeditions and Escalades? I don't know. It did seem like a big psychological barrier, though. The number 1 is over to the left of the other 3 numbers, so it is not lit up at night by those signs which take 3 numbers. It looks like 6 cents per litre when you drive at night. Haha! |
I just saw it at 98.3 downtown. Last week when it was cheaper everywhere else in Canada, it was already over a buck in Newfoundland.
|
There's talks of trying to get the government to at least reduce the tax on fuel price
|
I think it's fair.
We're running out of fuel and using it even more than we used to. Hopefully this will help cut back on SUVs. |
Quote:
Yeah, along with the talks to supply free icecream to everyone... pfft. Never happen. never never never. Gas has been artificially cheap in North America for 20 years now anyway (as already pointed out by the British poster), time to start getting used to it and make plans to drive less. Now all we can do is sit tight and wait for the junk emails to make their rounds detailing pointless schemes to "beat the oil companies." |
Quote:
Averted? Good. Still not? You're a naughty one. That's what the douchebag gets for driving an SUV around with probably no purpose other than to artificially extend his penis. |
Well, to be fair, he was towing a trailer behind him. Your average Honda civic won't do much good in that situation.
But by and large, as there seems to be no headway being made to seriously develop alternative fuel sources, I would not be opposed to new standards being imposed on passenger vehicles. Something like, for any vehicle that carries more than 3 people (gotta give the tradespeople and farmers with their pick ups and panel vans a break), a minimum of 35mpg highway must be obtained. |
filled up for 86.5 on Friday. (Vic Pk & York Mills in toronto) look for gas in the evening, it can be 5 cents/litre cheaper than in the morning. (that's about 20 cents per gallon cheaper!).
This morning it's $1.02/litre everywhere. |

Drove Lindsay this weekend and the prices on gasoline alley on the 35/115 were all in the range of .95 to .97 /litre...
I think it is pretty funny that many of the gas stations can't post the rate because they only have room for three numbers. We shouldn't be too surprised by this and don't expect the government to bring the taxes down much. I mean really, they bring the taxes down and they what? The gas companies are STILL going to raise the price and we will be back above the one dollar mark again. Just look at what they pay for fuel in Europe. We are still getting cheap gas. The chickens have come home to roost. We built our suburban sprawl around the automobile. Now we have to start paying the price for that lifestyle. Believe me, there are more expenses coming soon... Me? I drive my Vespa to and from work and it still only costs me just over $5 to fill it every week. If I am not riding my scooter I am taking public transit or walking. I sold my gas guzzling Jeep about four years ago and as much as I miss it, will never go back. |

"Yeah, we are running out of fuel. We're running out of that 35 cents a litre fuel. We have enough of the 75 cents per litre stuff. A buck a litre? We have a whole shit-load of that stuff lying around!" I enjoy talks about lowering taxes on fuel. THE GOVERNMENT WILL NEVER DO THAT, even the crazy people who hate taxes. Would you lower taxes, even though it is providing you with windfall revenue? Better to spend the money and make yourself look benevolent. We amateur economists look at this situation like a social experiment: What is the choke price? When will people say "that's too much, Bob!" There are theories that propose that the living wage is pegged to the price of oil, with a little bit of lag. Ask yourself if you have recieved a raise in pay in the last year. How much was it? Definitely not enough to cover the price at the pumps. BTW, at 1.06, am I paying the most out of all the canadians? |
In Europe almost everyone drives standard. Diesel engines are the norm. Large gas guzzling cars are uncommon.
They have been living with expensive fuel for some time and their car market has adjusted accordingly. My question is will the higher price of gas drive us to invest more money in public transit, higher density housing and more fuel efficient car? |
lack of supply??? please....there is enough oil reserves to supply us for the next 400 years!!! I'm reminded of the debeers group and what they have done with diamonds! It's complete bs......whoever controls fuel, controls the world! This whole blaming it on iraq is bs too, as only 25% of the worlds fuel comes from there. In Canada at least, take a look ot your receipt and see how much the gov. takes in tax....your 50$ of gas is about 19$ in tax!!!! I think the gov should ease up or else we are going to be in a major recession due to travelelling costs....

It just hit $1.03 in Ottawa today...not happy as an suv driver...but its only a Vitara which gets good gas mileage(same as my Accord did) with only a 69L tank. My wife calls it a tall car. I call it the reason I'll be buying a motorbike! Damn fuel prices..ack!
|
charl , you and red lemon are sharing avitars??? what's next? I shudder to think ...
what do you drive in the winter, when you have to do shopping runs or head out with the family & dog? |
Quote:
nope. my friend in vancouver bought regular for 110.09 this morning. |

this is classic. it is the base of all of the so-called "water empires" of the past.. |

But then again, I never get cheap gas unless the station is empty. Somehow, saving $5 brings out the worst in people. |

I saw it at 112.2 here in Vancouver today, when I started driving like 8 years ago I remember paying 29.9. Luckily Translink takes me wherever I need to go.
|
Mother Fucker!!!!
106.9!! wtf? its multiplying exponentially!! Yesterday night... 106.9... thats 10 cents in a matter of days... I remember when ppl used to bitch about half a cent |
Here is my 2 cents or $1.149.
If the government is going to continue to take the same percentage which means that they are raking in the dough even more as the price increases then they should at least be puring it back into improving the roads and public transportation. At one of the highest rates here in Quebec the roads sucks and they are even considering introducing a new tax - The Pot Hole tax. About reducing teh use of SUVs - think again. Who is this increase in price going to hurt? The people who are on tighter budgets with less disposable income. The people that are probably driving cheaper and more economical cars. Will the SUV driver be hurt? some maybe but others have the disposable income. This is not an effective way to get people to stop driving their SUVs. It should soon get people to start reconsidering public transport or carpooling. |
Agreed here. The gasoline tax the government rakes in is based on a percentage of the overall price. The government has a vested interest in seeing 1.09 a litre gasoline as it means considerably more money for them. I wouldn't be looking for your local politician to do jack shit for you, folks.
|
All I can say is I'm glad i ditched the '81 Volvo that demanded high octane fuel. My 3/4 ton diesel is less expensive to drive than the Volvo was but fuck me $.89/l is spendy for diesel. When i bought it it cost $75 to fill, now it cost $105. One tank will get me 900km so it's not as bad as a gaspot.
|
They are also taxing the GST on the other gas taxes, so you are being double-taxed.
|
If anyone is interested I was in Mississagua this afternoon at like 7:30pm on Mavis Rd and I filled up at 93.8. I know its still really high but it beats the hell out of the 105.9 that they want where I live. And its only a 40min drive away.

Too bad I missed out =( I was busy burning more gas go karting  |
For those who haven't seen it yet, see http://www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net/
It may or may not be biased, I'm not sure. This guy seems like he has done his research though and he cites and links to his sources like crazy. |
if you want to know where cheap gas is go to google and type in your city and cheap gas after.... like "Cheap Calgary Gas" this will bring up a site for all of Canada with your current sellected cities cheapest (and most expensive gas prices).. It is a really handy site.. for those who are too lazy to do it here is the Calgary one, Im pretty sure its really easy to change to your city as well.
http://www.calgarygasprices.com/ And I would be thrilled with these high gas prices if the goverment took the extra money and pumped it into the roads! Just imagine how much money they are making off of this, they could make all the roads perfect! I would gladly spend an extra 40-80 dollars a month in order to drive on excellent roads. Too bad the government is going to waste most of this money. |

My upper year stats prof could rip some serious holes in this guy's theory, but it is still a very unsettling read. I was taught to be critical of any economic forecast that blended different years data together. Notice that the author uses 2020 consumption forecasts with 2010 production forecasts over and over again. You have to be looking very closely for it, but the conflict is there. Some of the sources he quotes do the same thing, or he blends quotes together to the same effect. I was very impressed by some of the sources (CNN, MSNBC, LOTS of government posts) and while it did look like this guy has done his homework, there are some issues I have: He talks like this is inevitable, and that there is no escaping. Oh, great, then why the fuck did you tell me? Like a meteor crash, why worry me if I can't do anything? Should I run to the hills and brush up on my survival skills? Is the Michigan Militia recruiting? He did not quote any economists that I recognize in this post. There are several world class economists that base their entire research career on oil prices, consumption and production data, historical analysis, et cetera. I take comfort in this because that is my area of study. I would be freaking out if Barrow, Lucas, Greenspan et al. were freaking out. Maybe they are keeping quiet because they don't want to cause panic because there is nothing they can do about it... I just got another shiver... Finally, I loved how the author talked about individuals conserving fuel, and that savings only accelerated the inevitable collapse of the system. That was worth the time reading that alone. While I don't agree with this apocalyptic doomsday scenario, it is always worth while to read these theories, to make us all take stock in our lives and determine what is truly important... 4.2/5  |
Holy snapping snappers! $1.19 a litre! We own a new Corolla and I walk to work most days and I'm still having a stroke over this.
|
1.20/L just near my house... Wow... it now costs over $6.00 to fill up my Vespa. ;)
My wife and her family are renting a van to drive to a wedding on Sault Ste Marie this weekend... the gas has jumped just in time for the trip! Thankfully I am flying (on points no less). |
Quote:
What, 8 hours to the Sault? 75-80 litres at 1.20/litre each way. $180-192! Gulp! |

|
Aw, shit.
1.12 / ltr now. I am at a third of a tank and was thinking about filling up last night but got stuck working until 2230. I was too tired to fill up, and now tomorrow I will be too poor to sleep. FYI: The US exchange rate is 1.18573 dollars at the moment. Therefore, at 1.18 per litre, the equivalent US per gallon becomes very simple. It is 3.7854 US $ per gallon... I think I saw on a different thread that people wer complaining about 2.50-2.75 gas. |

Just off Google:
Average price of Unleaded 95 petrol in the UK is: 89.0p That's roughly Canadian 1.90/L |
Quote:
FUUUUUUUUUUUUCK me that's steep. I don't think they'll be taking down the little 1 in front of those numbers any time soon... |

Don't take this the wrong way but, drop dead. I didn't wanna know. ;) |
I live in Miami, Fl. The gas is almost three dollars per gallon.
|
1.349/L
....... |
1.30/L was the highest I saw this morning...
(sorry Highthief... look on the brightside .89 *looks* cheap... just ignore that its in pounds...) |
stupid lincoln... eats.. gas... must... resist touching the malibu.....
|
1.34 here.
yikes. I put $30 in............got just over 1/4 tank. yikes. |
I live around Toronto and the gas prices flucuate between 1.25 and 1.40 per litre. The nearest Esso showed 1.34. This is going to a be a bummer once I start driving to school.
|
*BUMP*
lol, what a joke? Here in Oregon! its like 4.39 /gal 1.29 in Ontario! I guess it is not that bad! it seems we are now used to it! |
conversion factors FTW! ...$1.29 per liter = $4.88 per gallon
Just yesterday I got a kick out of what one of the Arab oil ministers said about the "high price" of gas in the U.S. Basically he said "what are you complaining about?"...compared to the price of gas in Europe and many other parts of the world, the current price of gas in the U.S. is still probably not high enough to give adequate incentive for development of alternatives...though it seems we are creeping in that direction. Gas is still relatively cheap in countries that subsidize the price of gasoline...like Mexico, hence the growing number of people from the bordering U.S. driving down there to get gas and the tax on the Mexican people is paying for those lower prices. |
yea, i think in the UK, its rounding 10$ USD per gallon
whats the fuel efficiency of a golf cart? |
Quote:
I suggest you ask uncle phil that question. |
Quote:
Ya, well Mr. Saudi Oil Minister can lube his butt with the black gold and shove it. Who care's what the relative prices are? it's always been more expensive in Europe, for some inexplicable reason. For everything. I remember when a can of Coke was $1 in Germany, while it was 50 cents here. What's disconcerting is the speed at which the cost of gas has increased, and the resistance to it going down. For no apparent reason, there is an upward pressure on price, and Mr. Oil Minister blames it on speculation. He's probably right. *** I bought discount gas this morning at $1.30/litre (87 octane). It's going for 1.33/litre everywhere. (converts to: $4.92 & $5.03 per US Gallon) |
I love blaming the media!
Lets do that! the media is essentially why the world is the way it is today. Put it on the news, I'm sure someone was shot, a celebrity got married or someone just had a kid, can't forgot about something unimportant involving the government! |
my wife blames the high gas prices on the Bush administration...so add that to your bowl of soup

At least Halliburton is spending some money on a prototype I'm working on...don't hold that against me, we impressed them...it will help find more oil in less time. I'm sure that will make them richer and pay a couple of my bills while they're at it.
