If they do, it won't last long.

I will have to break my bike out of the ice in my backyard. It's too cold to get my Vespa on the road yet.

Thanks to Jetsgo, I also happened to be thinking of what would happen if there was no TTC. Like you, Charlatan, my thoughts turned to my bike and the warmer weather which seems like it'll never come.

i sure hope not. It's along bike ride to my office, with a lap top etc.

Maybe I should read the local news more, but was there actually talk of this?

I know the rates just went up (right after my workplace moved to within walking distance of home...YESSSSSS!), but I haven't heard anything about a strike!?

Well, a couple of years ago the Calgary Transit went on strike and they were out for months. A lot of people, especially students and lower income workers had a really crappy time of it. It really sucked. And, really, Calgary is pretty easy to get around in compared to T.O.!

So, I really hope that no Public Transit in any city goes on strike because it's always the low end of the scale that gets the most adversely affected.

I really see it as a failure of civic adminsitration to let any public service like transit, sanitation or the like to get to the point of striking. I actually voted against Aldermen in the election following the strike that did anything to prolong the strike, which some of them did. Alas, my foul Alderman was re-elected anyway, but I did all I could.

Good luck, and maybe put pressure on your Aldermen (councillors?) to do the righ tthing and avoid a strike.

I did read about a single mother in some city in the US that tried to sue her local gov for negligence when she lost her job due to a transit strike, but I could not find it on google or anywhere else when I looked, so I could be mistaken. Still, maybe you should try using the Canadian Charter of Righs and Freedoms as a possible weapon in a fight with TO City Hall. Could it work? Who knows, I'd love to see it!

Good luck,

Peace,

Pierre

If they did I would be TOTALLY screwed.
I don't know how I would get to school.

Every time they have gone on strike since 91 they get legislated back to work after a few days.

In the mean time, all hell breaks loose.
