1. Great Westen Gold
2. Molson Canadian 3. Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale 4. Pilsner 5. Big Rock - tie between Warthog and Traditional Okay, I am a prairie boy... I don't want anyone slamming Pilsner. It is a good beer. You don't want to put a beer on your top 5 where all 5 are specialties that you can only find in special regions... The Quebecois beer is fantastic, if you can handle it... Fin de la Monde ('End of the World') is awesome, as well as Maudite ("Goddamn"). They are about 10% alcohol, so don't beer-bong them or you'll be sorry. |
In no particular order
La Fin du Monde Creemore Rickard's Red Maudite Mill Street Organic Oktoberfest (only available at the brewery or by the keg) |
1. Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale
2. Big Rock Traditional Ale 3. Fort Garry Brewing Dark Ale 4. Catfish Cream Ale 5. Rickard's Red |
Quote:
1 Sleeman Original Draft, its new and soooooo good 2 Alexander Keiths India Pale ale, aka Keiths 3 Sleeman Honey Brown 4 Creemore 5 Sleeman Premium Light, a light beer that tastes better than most regular strength beers yeah I know I am kinda biased so take it for what it's worth. |
Quote:
mmmm Sleeman (love the dark) mmmmm Creemore -- can i have that for breakfast??? (wondering) |
- Alexander Keiths
- Rickards Red - Sleeman Honey Brown - Kokanee - no 5th beer to think of |

?
Well guys I hate to say this but I think I am done here. I have asked all of my important questions and also came to a conclusion about moving. Without getting into the details of why, I am just going to say that it is not time.....yet.....for me to jump borders. Most of your responses made me want to move even more. If you select Canadians represent the rest of your country even a little bit...than you are a nation of wonderful people. In many ways I am jealous. You seem to have taken the oxymoron of a united and yet diverse nation of people to a higher level than Americans. I applaude you. Thank you sooooo much for all of this knowledge. I may from time to time post new questions here...if only to keep the thread alive. Otherwise I look forward to reading all of your brilliant posts throughout this site. Peace |
Peace to you too. But I submit that if we started a similar thread in the US forums, we would get and identically enlightened response. We are all proud of our roots, no matter which side of the border we reside.
|
I am honoured that my list of 5 top beers was the final answer you needed to declare your investigations complete for now.
Let me know if you need any similar enlightenment. :D |
inhalo... be honest... it was aberkok's beer list that made you decide to *not* come to Canada... right?
Damn you Aberkok!!! We lost another one! On another note... I second what Janey had to say |
Quote:
(oh, and I love that cask ale from C'est What" too!) |
Maybe he was hoping nobody really drinks beer, that Canadian beer is one of The Big Lies, and that we would go into a comfy chat about wine spritzers and cheese. Aberkok, you put the nail in that one, but you did it sooo beautifully ;)
|
Ok, since inhalo doesn't want to continue, I'll keep it up just to keep the interest in this thread going.
32nd Question. List the top 5 best place in all of Canada that you'd recommend to visit. |
Quote:
2. Cape Breton 3. Montreal 4. Niagara-on-the-Lake 5. NewfieLand |
Quote:
2. Banff 3. Prince Edward Island 4. Quebec City 5. some remote distant, middle of nowhere town. Pick any province, get at least 6 hours away from anything considered a town or city, or anything with streetlights. That, in essence, is Canada. |
1. The Nation's Capitol... during the Tulip Festival. Be sure to get a bike and ride the paths along the canal
2. Toronto. Visit the city with someone who actually lives there and can take you to places like Baldwin Street on a hot summer night for good food, or can take you for a long afternoon stroll along the boardwalk and through the Beaches, or knows where to take you for a good dinner and a night of clubbing... Better yet, Kensington Market on a Saturday morning. 3. Algonquin Park. Whether you are going for a hike or a long canoe trip... the best time is in the fall (in this case late August or early September) just before it gets too cold and there are no bugs. 4. Lake Louise. Touristy to be sure but they go there for a reason. 5. Montreal. The cafe lifestyle, the great bagels and mouth watering smoked meat... The new and the old areas... The music and the festivals. Bonus 6. Regina!!!! Not only to you get to say Regina but you get to say you've been there... |
I noticed none of you mentioned any of Granville Island's brews in your top 5s yet their honey lager would definitely be my no. 1 choice in Canadian beers. I also notice most of you are from Ontario--do you just not get Granville Island back there?
If not...so sad. I need to get to Vancouver again soon and stock up. |
Nope... never had a Granville Island Beer... I'll keep my eye open for them when I am in Banff in a couple of weeks time... the beer store I go to there has a great selection...

I have had Granville Island beer many times. Unfortunately the Beer Store doesn't sell it in Ontario. At least I haven't seen it. Maybe the LCBO might have some.
Last summer I was in Vancouver, and went to Granville Island, to enjoy the market, the waterpark and the shops & buskers. I also bought a Granvill Island Commemorative brew t-shirt... the Gastown Amber ale is soooo goood! Their site: http://www.gib.ca/ |
Granville Island charges for their tour? Last time I went it was free (samples too).
I doubt the sell it in Banff, but they do sell an awful lot of good beers there. There are so many craft breweries nowadays that it's hard to pick which one is the best. The beer I like may not be the one you like, so it's best to try them all:) |
Switched from Keith's to Lakeport Honey Lager. Exactly a year ago. Saved $1000 dollars easy by paying $15 bucks less a case. And for a thousand bucks a year, the taste ain't that different.
Places? Radium Hot Springs in B.C. Met the coolest chick there. Drumheller Alberta. Dinosaurs and stuff. Cypress Hills in southern Saskatchewan. St. Catherines Sreet in 1980's Montreal. Brackley Beach, PEI. |
Drumheller... that is a *very* good one. I've never been but my son really wants me to take him.
|
33rd Question.
Best Canadian team rivalry in any major league (NHL, CFL, MLB, etc)? I'll have to say...Edmonton Eskimos vs Calgary Stampeders or Hamilton TiCats vs Toronto Argos |
I would say Calgary Flames VS. Edmonton Oilers. Much rivalry there
|
would saying the Leafs/Habs be too obvious?
|
Quote:
|
No one suggested a date on that rivalry... we could be talking about the Leafs from the 60s...
|
Leafs/Habs, or the Habs and the Nordiques from the 80's some of the most intense game I've watched. I don't really watch the CFL so I can't say anything about them. The Leafs and the Sens could have a good rivalry if the Sens ever make it out of the first round. Oh the joys of being a Leafs fan in Ottawa, I just love wearing out my leafs stuff the people here hate it.

Question for Winnipegians:
What is the deal with the black sandwich boards with techni-colored lettering? We took a vacation up to Winnipeg and that was all we saw- black boards with orange and yellow and red letters. Explain. |
The real question is why vacation in Winnipeg...

We got in on Friday night and saw the Manitoba Moose play- great game- great team. On Saturday we went to the mint, which was closed. Then we went to the zoo, which was pretty lame. Sorry, but I live mere miles from one of the greatest zoos in this country, so it takes a lot to impress me. From there we went to the French Quarters, which turned out to be one building. After that, we headed off to the Forks, which had no outdoor activities whatsoever, since apparently April in Winnipeg is not any closer to spring. We shopped at the market. We went to Osbourne village- most everything was closed. We were bored and went to see a movie. We left early the next day. Don't think I will ever go back to Winnipeg. The traffic is AWFUL! At least we have turning lanes down here. So anyway- explain the sandwich boards. |
That's about what I would expect from Winnipeg... sorry I can't answer you on the signage... the last time I was in Winterpeg was in 1981.
|
Sandwich boards? I haven't seen any sandwich boards.
|
They were big in London Ont. too.

where do you live? what is the zoo near you? We have an amazing zoo here in Toronto, and I've been to San Diego's and the one in Columbia (SC) which are both comparable. when you say sandwhich boards, I visualize those things that people wear over their shoulders to advertize while walking on sidewalks. I've never seen them looking like what you describe. But I have seen menu boards in restuarants/pubs that are black and they use flourescent crayons to write on it. It looks brighter than a chalk board, and have been around for a couple of decades. But I've never seen anybody wear one as a sandwhich board... |

Any chance you can post a pic of one of these "sandwich boards with techni-colored lettering"

So Minx, if I met you outside the West gates of McMahon, can I get in too?

But, yes, the east side gets all the late day sun, it's easier to get to the Banff Trail station, and ALL the fun people hang there. It's true! Quote:
Alas, even if you had a spare ticket I could not go. My wide and I will be in Canmore that weekend, which will still be a great time, just no green people. By that, I mean people PAINTED green, not environmentally sensitive. Shake hands with some hay seeds for me Minx. Ciao for niao... Peace, Pierre |

Those Riders fans do know how to party though. I mean seriously - anyone willing to wear a watermelon on their head has my vote. |

In answer to your rivalry question, I think the Leafs/Habs rivalry has lost some of its lustre and has been replaced with the Leafs/Senators rivalry, which is quite intense, especially if you live in Ottawa, because they were and are so sour for losing to my beloved Buds 4 times in the playoffs, baby!!! Maybe that's just an Ontario thing, though.
I don't think there are many others, to be honest... Maybe a CFL one, which I wouldn't know because I don't watch CFL much. |
