The "Guess my job" Game!

It has come to mind that I have a rather unusual occupation. So, I thought I would see if I could drop a few points/riddles/hints on what my job might be and see if anyone could guess correctly. Then another person could post some hints for their job to be guessed. It is up to you whether you do a follow-up post to explain your riddle, etc. Ok, here goes for me:

I am a doctor, but I will never have any patients.
I work with drugs, but I am not a pharmacist nor a dealer.
Much of what I do involves manipulating what can not be seen.

Maybe that will be enough for some good guesses...

Redlemon 12-02-2004 12:39 PM

Research biochemist with a doctorate?

Livia Regina 12-02-2004 12:44 PM

Would you be some sort of contagious disease specialist working in a lab?

I pay to work, I do not get paid.
Procrastination is my god.
I live in communal housing my job provides for a fee.

braisler 12-02-2004 01:15 PM

Aw, I must have made it too easy for you guys! Redlemon is first and closest. I do have a doctorate, and I do work in a lab. My degree is in molecular genetics not biochemistry, but yes, very close indeed.

And Livia Regina has got to be a student! Or a cultist! :)

Livia Regina 12-02-2004 01:21 PM

Yep, I'm a college student. I'll have a real job someday...

todd 12-02-2004 01:29 PM

My work begins and ends on a screen.
I rarely have to leave home to work.
My boss changes often.
I <3 the third dimension.

Livia Regina 12-02-2004 01:32 PM

Do you do freelance computer graphic design?

Redlemon 12-02-2004 01:33 PM

People think I'm green, but I'm not.
I feel like a lawyer, but I'm not.

bundy 12-02-2004 01:34 PM

todd, are you an unemployed bloke who gets married/divorced to real, living women, a lot.

todd 12-02-2004 01:40 PM

Haha yea Livia Regina got it. I do 3D freelancing (mostly 3D, anyway).

Bundy was...close?

FngKestrel 12-02-2004 02:29 PM

redlemon: are you an Environmental Advocate?

Coppertop 12-02-2004 02:32 PM

I won't even get in on this one. If I posted my job description (well, what I do anyway as they're unrelated) most people would assume I was unemployed.

Redlemon 12-02-2004 06:34 PM

It might be the same thing, but my job title is Environmental Engineer, and I'm in a consulting firm. So, I work for industry, and help them figure out the regs, and do paperwork for them.

CityOfAngels 12-02-2004 07:21 PM

Here's a new one for y'all:

I sit on my ass all day and watch people dig.
I only have to be there when they're digging in "native" soil. If they are digging in fill, then I don't care.
I have been witness to almost 400 of my ancestor's skeletons, along with various artifacts, being unearthed in the name of progress and development.
I am there to make sure that any remains or artifacts found are treated with the proper respect and handled according to specific guidelines set by representatives in my tribe and state and federal law.
I have not gone to school for this job, but rather have taken it as a temporary duty to my tribe; but I still get paid a crap-load.

Sorry for all the hints, but my job is pretty obscure.

bbbbbb555 12-02-2004 07:35 PM

are you a native american that watches over construction sites to look for arifacts?

although i am i student i have another easy job
i get to look at a lot of freshmen
i get a few free meals out of it
i get to wear a sweet visor

that should be pretty easy

radioguy 12-02-2004 09:54 PM

tour guide at your school bbbbbb555?

i have power
if you don't hear anything, i'm probably fired
i get a bunch of free stuff
cochlea's like me.......most of the time
chics dig me

FngKestrel 12-02-2004 11:16 PM

radioguy: are you a...radio guy? :D

I paint on a canvas the size of a stamp.
I produce stuff that is anti-productive.
If you call me, you'll interrupt my work.

Kind of obscure, but hopefully enough for people to get. :D

Artifacts and burials. The correct term is "Native American Archaeological Monitor."

braisler 12-03-2004 06:48 AM

FngKestrel, you may have to help us out some more, but I'll venture a guess. Are you someone who paints on circuit boards, maybe for game chips (hence anti-productive)?

Maybe another clue would help if I am nowhere close.

FngKestrel 12-03-2004 10:32 AM

Nice guess, but I don't have anything to do with hardware. You're on the right track with games though. :D

Pretty close. I do art for cell phone games. My programmer buddies are on the other side of the office.

Hard8s 12-06-2004 04:53 PM

If I do my job right no one notices.
When its hot people complain and I can cool them down.
When its cold I can heat them up.
Stuff gets really busy when its rainy or windy.
I have to work the hardest when the lights go out.

What do I do?

Coppertop 12-06-2004 05:28 PM

You a technician for PG&E?

Hard8s 12-06-2004 05:30 PM

NO but kind of close

Fremen 12-06-2004 06:18 PM

Nuclear reactor technician? :D

/d'oh!

Hard8s 12-06-2004 06:25 PM

No, I work for a University as a Control Room Operator for the Cogeneration Power/Heating/Cooling Plant.

12-06-2004 09:54 PM

I get to spy into people's lives, but I am not a secret agent or investigator.

I get to say yes or no, but I am not the boss.

I talk to many idiots everyday who think they own the company, even if they don't work for us yet.

Money is as much take as it is give in this industry.

My position gets the grunt of it all if something goes wrong or is not done quick enough.

FngKestrel 12-06-2004 09:56 PM

Are you tech support?

Hard8s 12-07-2004 09:07 PM

ooh, I know!!
a loan officer!

Coppertop 12-08-2004 11:15 AM

or an IRS auditor?

Hard8s 12-12-2004 05:46 PM

Well??? do any of us have it right?
Don't leave us hanging!!!

12-29-2004 01:51 PM

sorry, been busy- I think that Hard8s was the closest. I am a human resources specialist at a mortgage corp. office

bernadette 12-29-2004 02:32 PM

my job is not glamorous nor much interesting.
i am on call pretty much 24/7/365.
most of what i do is routine & has to be re-done almost as soon as i finish.
some of what i do is of a creative nature.
i do not get paid a salary, but i am provided with room & board, the essentials, once in a while some gratitude & always love.
hand lotion is an essential requirement with my job. ;)

tecoyah 12-29-2004 03:28 PM

You are a Nanny

20,000,000 people see my work each day, but never see me.
My work can be seen but not touched.
The signature on my paycheck is sought by many.
Women love what I do, but don't know I do it.
If you haven't heard of the place I work, you live under a rock.

Derwood 12-31-2004 09:11 PM

anyone, anyone?

Coppertop 01-02-2005 10:32 AM

You work at the Federal Reserve?
