Fernie.
Any of you fine folk from around there or visit there in winter?
My girlfriend has a house there that she rents out to snowboarding seasonnaires from the UK. We're both heading out there in March for 3 weeks. Say hi. |
Ahh, Fernie. I had one of the best weekends of my life down there. I live in Calgary, which is probably where you are flying into if you are coming from London.
I have a question for you, what are "seasonnaires" I can guess, but I have never seen that word before |
Im my opinion Fernie is the....THE best resort in western Canada. I grew up on that hill. It has the best powder for all you snowboard freaks like me out there. Only bad thing is....wait...I can't think of one.

A seasonnaire is a term coined for the brit snowboarders who spend a winter season in foreign mountains.
As we have no real ski/board mountains in this country and less snow, we have to migrate seasonally to find it. It's not just a 4 hour drive on a weekend for us. This will seem a little odd to canadians or americans but a little more familiar to aussies, kiwis and south africans who make up most of the worlds backpacking population. I have 6 friends who are giving up quite lucrative jobs to do so. It's becoming so common that a lot of companies are giving their staff sabbaticals of 5 months or more to retain their workers. I hear you on the powder opinion Dashmonkey. We did a 1 month tour last year. Big White, Nelson, Fernie, Kicking Horse and a few smaller stops on the way. Fernie was by far the best. And this year she's put a hot tub into the house. Bonus! |
Uck, I don't like Big White.
Fernie is awesome. But better than the skiing is the biking, Fernie has AWESOME trails if you're into downhill biking :) |
Fernie's an Awsome hill. Used to be a lot better IMO when it was small and unkown. I grew up skiing at Fernie and have had many great days there. Only bad thing about Fernie... and yes there is one.. is its altitude. I've seen it start to rain there and wipe out a weeks worth of Powder overnight.
Keep it quite.... but the new Fernie is Castle. shhhh don't tell. ;) |
Hehe - been there, done that too.
Although it can get pretty windblown at Castle. |
Yup, a quick drive from Calgary and you're in a town where no one cares if you get stupid drunk, the skiing rocks in the winter, the biking rocks in the summer, and the whole time you're in this fantastic mountain paradise that looks a little like an old trailer park, but in a good way. Love Fernie.
