Prophecy's Thread of Riddles and Brainteasers
Welcome to my thread, this is the place to come to stump your friends or see if your friends can stump you with their favorite riddle or brainteaser. All I ask is that all new riddles be held till the last riddle/brainteaser was answered correctly. If you get the answer right, then its your turn to add a riddle. I'll go first:
They call me a man, but I'll never have a wife. I was given a body, but not given life. They made me a mouth, but didn't give me breath. Water gives me life and sun brings me death |

He lived in a light house and turning off the light caused boat accidents?

spectre: Absolutely right! That was fast...
So, your turn, I think. |
Ok, there are three red hats and two white hats.
You are sitting in a desk in a classromm facing the front of the class. There is a person siting directly behind you (he can see you). There is also a person sitting directly behind him (the person sitting behind you). This person can see both the person behind you and you. Another person enters the class and places a hat on each of your heads. You do not know which hat was placed on your head and you can't see what color it is. You can't see anyone else's hat. The person behind you can see your hat only. The person behind him can see both of your hats. The peson that put the hats on your heat asks the three of you to call out the color of the hat you are wearing as soon as you know what the color is. After a few seconds nobody has said anything. What color hat are you wearing? Note: You can assume that the two people behind you are at least as smart as you. |
You take the damn hat off and look at it.
Duh. |
It has roots that nobody sees, and is taller than trees.
Up, up it goes, and yet it never grows. What is it? |
Hang on a second there.
I am surprised that you all gave up so fast on the riddle that I posted. BonesYou may be wearing a cubs hat but what color is it? KWSN fine, you take it off your head and look at it. What color is it? Duh. Nice try though. |
Red.
|
Um, a white hat?
If the first 2 hats were red, the last guy would've easily guessed that he had a white one. But he didn't. If my hat were red, the middle guy would've used the logic above, and hearing no answer from 3rd guy, would've guessed that he had a white hat. So I gots me a white hat. Makes sense in my head anyway. |
I figure that no one talked at all, that there isn't enough info to figure out who has what hat on. All I know is that both of the front two people weren't wearing white hats at the same time.
|
crackpot, Meridae'n is right, you are mixing up the numbers of each color hat.
There are 2 white and 3 red. The guy at the back would have known that he was wearing a red hat had he seen two white hats in front of him. The middle guy, knowing this would have guessed that he was wearing a red hat had he seen you wearing a white hat. You knowing all this know that you are wearing a red hat. If you were wearing a white hat one of the other guys whould have know what color hat they were wearing. Nice work Meridae'n Anybody alse got one? |
You walk into a room and see an overturned table, a man with a bullet in his head, and 53 bicycles on the floor. What happened?
|
I guess I need a little more help with this answer...

Damn, guess I'm colour-blind.

Prophecy, I will try to be a clearer.
The guy in the back can see the hats of the two people in front of him. - If he were to see two white hats in front then he would know he was wearing a red hat and he would. Since he did not say anything we know that he does not see two white hats in front of him. - If he were to see two red hats he could be wearing a red or a white hat. - If he were to see a red and a white hat then he could be wearing a red or a white hat. The important thing to note so far is that the guy in the back did not say anything so this means that he does not see two white hats in front of him. The guy in the middle can only see your hat but he also knows that the guy behind him can't tell what hat he (the guy behind) is wearing. The guy in the middle, therefore, knows that him and you are not both wearing white hats. - If the middle guy sees you were wearing a white hat then the middle guy knows that he is not wearing a white hat (he would know that he is wearing a red hat) and he would say something. He knows this because had the guy in back see two white hats he would have said something. You are also smart so you know that the guy in the back would have said something had he see two white hats. That leaves you with three options to consider: 1. Middle = Red, You = White 2. Middle = White, You = Red 3. Middle = Red, You = Red You also know that if your hat was white (option 1) then the middle guy would know that his had is red and he would have said something. But he did not say something. This leaves you with the other two options. In both of these options your hat is red. Answer: You know your hat is red. |
thank you :)
