Holidays around oz

With the warmer weather on the way ive been thinking about getting away for a bit. Most of the aussies on this board are pretty spread out so i wondering if you had any good advice about where you have been. i like camping aswell, so you can include those expierences. Thanks.

Perhaps you had better narrow down your request, mate. What state are you in? How far do you want to travel? Are you driving or flying? Do you prefer beach or country? And when you arrive, do you like to relax and spend time at the beach, or are you looking for action?

I live in SE Queensland, and prefer to spend time on the Gold Coast when I get away - the quieter end down towards Coolongatta. Actually, I'm there right now, in Palm Beach. Awesome beaches, lots of sun, heaps to do, great places to eat, the kids love it. Suits me down to the ground.

Um, i live in NSW, The Blue Mountains near Sydney. Im keen on hearing about any good holidays youve had. I dont think id travel to WA this year but well anywhere on the east coast. I went to the gold coast ages ago and it was nice. Wish i had more time to see the quieter side of it though. I like the beach, but am a pale kinda guy so i gotta be careful. Good places to eat are always a bonus. I went to melbourne a couple a years ago, and St Kilda had some top eating places.

Aha...well, head to Melbourne then. I'm a Melbourne girl and spent around 7 years living around St Kilda - there are some excellent eating spots around. You can also hire a car and drive down the Great Ocean Road to Lorne, one of the world's best ocean drives. Then you could head inland and spend a day or two in the gorgeous Daylesford region, the hub of the Goldfields area of Victoria.

I don't mean to sound biased at all, but for such a small state, Victoria has a lot to offer in the tourism department.

A dingo ate your baby, Slim?

I'm pretty sad for being an American "tourist". Only been out of Victoria twice.. and both times was to go to Sydney. Oh, and on one fabulously drunken night I went from a 21st in Wodonga to a nightclub in Albury ;)

Oh yeah.. and Hillston, NSW... Well, outside of it really... middle of nowhere.. it was fun.

Have you been camping at Hassan's Walls? Pretty close to you...
Relatively quiet, because the dirt road keeps people away - nice camping area and a pretty spectacular view. Not a restaurant in sight however :(

I must admit that my favoutite holidays have been sitting around doing sfa, so it depends what you like.

Recently had a fun weekend white water kayaking at Barrington Tops.

Longer holidays - Tasmania was fun - 3 weeks - we took our car with us, and did the cheap camping thing (caravan parks and national parks). Heaps to see - I'm pretty sure 3 weeks wasn't enough... only problem was not enough room to bring home all the wine I wanted to buy :)
