Red Brick Ale, brewed right here in Atlanta. Haven't found anything I like better.
|
Canadian, Keith's, Sleeman's, Moosehead.
|
Granville Island - Winter Brew in particular, but all of theirs are great.
|
Homebrew stouts & braggets are my favorites. Pale ales in between.
For bottled stuff, Widmer Winternacht was my favorite even though only a seasonal. Looks like they've replaced it with Snowplow this year. It's also quite good though doesn't have the same kick. |
Sorry about this folks but canadian/blue/keiths= water. for me it's Creemore Springs all the way
|
Ex and Keiths > all others for taste & sheer thirst quenching on a hot day after mowing the lawn.
I tend to drink the girly-man Coors Lite if I'm heading out to a bar for the night though. I last longer that way  |
qweds -> You've got to be one of the only people who has ever mentioned that brew recently around me!
I'm going to go with Granville Island Winter Ale as well. There's just something about that vanilla aftertaste that makes my little heart sing... |

Jumping in an a topic near and dear to my heart.
Too many to list ALL my favourites, but... North Coast Brewing's Old Rasputin Imperial Stout (California) Unibroue's Trois Pistoles, Maudite, Fin du Monde, etc. (Quebec) Wychwood's Hobgoblin Ale (England) (at 5.2%, for those lighter days) And for really hot days, with too much sun: Corona or Bavaria. For a little more taste, Tuborg. Special Mention: Really enjoyed Granville Island's Dopplebock this year! </BeerGeekSpew> |

Sleemans Pale Ale & Okanagan Springs Pale Ale. Strangely they were both favorites before Sleemans bought OK Springs.

Arrrrghhhh! **beer ....
"seeing if i can breathe some life into an old post"
I first started drinking Blue ... doh de doh de dum de doh .... And after a dozen or so failed experiments, i found that A nice cold Bud, (brewed by Labatts ... we are in canada eh), is the beer for me ... but! whats up with the headaches ???? is it because i make a pig of myself? so now me drinks just rum! ... eye eye captain! |
Tusker, Tiger, Kingfisher and Keith's are current faves.
|
I lived in Montreal for 40 years and then moved to Ontario. I learned to love beer in Montreal, particularly microbrew beers like Boreale. There's nothing better than drinking Boreale Rousse in a place like "Les Deux Perrots" in Old Montreal while listening to French Canadian bands play British rock and roll.
http://www.boreale.qc.ca/eng/images/botrous.gif Nowadays, I pretty much settle for Rickard's red or the occasional Guinness. The fridge always has a variety of Lakeport or Laker red for basic needs. |
Labatt 50, first choice.
Guinness, second choice. Keith's, third choice. |
I like Pyramid Ale. It's not made in Canada, sorry.
I also like that horrible beer called Stella Artois for personal memories it holds while I was in Eastern Europe and rats ate my fruit. That was a syntactically poor sentence. |

un cinquant svp! |
How long have I been here, and I haven't posted to this thread yet?
That is just wrong... Anyhoo, my beer in the fridge (and in the cooler in my car, don't ask) is http://www.greatwesternbrewing.com/j...es/bottles.jpg Great Western Pilsner and http://www.greatwesternbrewing.com/jpegs/bottles/hw.jpg Great Western Honey Wheat But the glass behind the Honey Wheat bottle is filled with Pilsner, because the beer is as dark as the bottle, maybe a little bit less. It is fantastic stuff, and brewed right here. |
OMG! Someone who admits to drinking the beer of the homosexual tough guy...
Me and the boys and our 50, me and the boys and our beer! It was always cinqant and les export verts for all my Quebecquois amis. I was always a Canadian drinker until I discovered that it was piss compared to everything else that was out there... Lately I have been either splurging and drinking the fine beverages of Unibrou and Guinness or going cheaper and drinking Red Cap... the beer of my grandparents (according to my Mom)... besides who can resist the stubbies. |
I usually drink MGD or Kokanee, some times Mickey's. I really want to try Miller High Life, to bad we cant get it up here.
|
MGD is my current fav. Does anyone remember when they tried to make Black Label trendy??? How much of that did I drink in the 80's .....
|
A good friend of mine still drinks Black Label because of those ads.
I remember my Mom and her boyfriend drinking it when I was a kid. |
I remember buying a 24 of the stuff in Plattsburgh, NY, just across the Quebec border, for $4.99! That must've been 20 years ago ...
|
I KNOW the cost of beer in Ontario in 1978 was $4.40 for a 12 pack, and $8.80 for a 2-4. This was my first year at university, and I had a $5/week allowance, which allowed me a 12 pack, and laundry per week.
after that tho, the cost went up pretty steadily, so that by 20 yrs ago, it would have been way way more expensive than the NY prices! |
I'm from New York, but I've experienced Labatt Blue when I was up there skiing (Mont Tremblant). Liked it a lot!
my non-canadian favorite would have to be Corona. |
It's going to be a scorcher this weekend. And Father's day. I think that I'm going to treat myself to a 12-pack of Steamwhistle Lager.
Great tasting, refreshing, and the 12's are being distributed with a retro bottle opener too. |

Labatt Blue is probably my second favorite canuck beer (but that's available all over the US afaik) Quote:

Free beer from work choice: Sleeman Original Draft, or Honey Brown
Pub Choice: Guinness, Sleeman Original Draft (again), or Steamwhistle Cheap domestic night at the club Choice: 50 |
After a long stint of various sleeman's, a quick run through rickards, then a stint of keiths, I've been on a Big Rock run.
Seriously, now that I think of it, I can't remember the last case that wasn't a big rock product. I don't know if it is local marketing, as Big Rock is an Alberta based brewery near Calgary, but I'm hooked. I tried "Kold" a couple times, but it is the worst that Big Rock produces (and I think they might have dropped it recently). Other Big Rock lineup, which I recommend... Honey Brown or Jack Rabbit are both great lagers. Traditional, Grasshopper, and Pale are all nice ales (I like the grasshopper). I'm torn on the Warthog, a heavier ale, but I have a number of friends that like it. I like the McNallys, which is an irish ale, but don't drink it very ofter. They make a 'black and amber' stout that is supposed to be good too. |
Currently in the fridge:
- Big Rock Traditional - Big Rock Honey Brown - Big Rock Grasshopper - Stella - Rickard's Red - Rickard's Honey Brown - Rickard's Pale - Sleeman's Honey Brown - Waterloo Dark |
We are talking only about Canadian Beers, right?
In that case I have to say that St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout probably tops my list. http://www.mcauslan.com/en/products/stout.jpg http://www.mcauslan.com/en/index.html Other than that I like many beers but there is one that I just don't like that seem to be so many people's favorite: Kieth's I just don't like Kieth's (not a Canadian Beer but, I really don't like Heineken either) The original post mentioned the first beer ordered in a bar when under age. For me that was Brador. I remember thinking how anyone could have sold any alcohol to me at 15. It was obvious that I was not of age. The only thing that I can think of was that they were possibly a bar that was really not likely to get raided. |
Sticky! I was going to mention this lovely Stout and lo and behold he you have done it.
I bought a six of St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout on the weekend for my father in law... It was very tasty. Brador? Now that's a classy beer. Do they still make Brador? I had a friend in University who would drink nothing but Brador. The simple lable and malty flavour... http://www.stubby.ca/images/thumbs/b...ttles_d001.jpg |
ah yes I remember the good old Brador. That was the high test of choice in high school (of course I was legal in Grade 13, when the age of majority was 18). We could congregate at Barrie Burger for Home Burgers and Brador...
the high test option was Labatt's Extra Old Stock comemorative brew... I think it was 6.5%. My dad favoured Brador as well. I went scuba diving off of the dock at our cottage and spotted what I thought was a collection of loonies (or gold doubloons!) only to find dozens of brador caps with the gold foil wrap! |
I have been having a really hard time finding the St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout. I can't seem to find it anywhere.
As for Brador, I don't know if they still make it. I have not noticed it in stores. I think that both of the above stems from the same issue. In the Depaneurs there is a real lack of brewer selection. There is alot of choice amongst several brewers but there are not that many brewers represented. The Supermarkets have a much better selection if you can believe that. The only problem is that I can't find St. Ambroise in the supermarkets and if I do it is not the stout. By the way, in case you guys did not know, yes you can get beer in supermarkets here - convienience stores as well. |

why can't we be civilised here in Ontario? |
I have to go with Keiths first, and I'm surprised I haven't seen MGD up here yet, another favorite.

Ok, so I decided to call the brewry. I spoke to the operator (receptionist) and asked if there was anybody there who could help me find a location around the city that sold St. Ambroise in general and the Oatmeal Stout specifically. She said that I should speak to the orders department (presumably this is becuase if they take they orders they know for wich locations they are for). I called the order department and the guy asked my which supermarkets I shop at. I said I go to IGA. He said that IGA and Loblaws cary them. I asked him if he was sure and if he knew if it was all IGA and Loblaws locations. He said yes. He then asked me if I knew what the packaging looks like. Hmm is he saying that I am an idiot? he might as well have asked me if I know how to read. Anyway, after work I went to three supermarkets (1 Loblaws and 2 IGAs) and none of them carry St. Ambroise. |
My beer of choice is Pilsner - what can I say, I'm a good (although transplanted) Saskatchewan boy. The Molson brand name, not the style of beer, although... I guess... that's lower case pilsner as well... hmmm...
Really like Red Stripe (stubby bottle for those wondering) and Victoria Bitter (also stubby bottle). Sleeman's Genuine Draft is nice too. Kilkenny.. Wild Rose Wrasberry... Corona... Dos Equis, SOL, Great Western Pilsner... man the list is very long. I think I'll just say... I'll drink pretty much any beer, so long as it's cold... unless it's an English Lager, then I prefer it to be on the low side of room temperature. |
on the subject of pilsners, I heard on the news, that Steamwhistle is so popular that they are running out of the green bottles used for their product.
This beer is actually quite enjoyable for a "light"style. I mean light in the sense that I prefer amber style ales such as Kilkenny, or the darks produced by local micros. as well as IPAs. I have always steered clear from the flavourless corparate brews (Labatts Blue, Molson Canadian, Corona) even in the hot summer months. But Steamwhistle has gotten me blowing a different tune. I would place it up there with Creemore lagar for fullness of flavour. |
Our local beer fetishist's paradise has started stocking Sleeman's. Haven't tried it yet, but based on the recommendations from this thread, I'm going to have to.
|
My favourite beer is the one that Flyman is going to offer me in about 15 minutes. :D :suave:
|
I thought ir was always "My favourite beer is the next one"...
GRIN I like Steamwhistle too... it's kinda tough to find in Alberta sometimes though. |
I'm from Montreal as well and love la maudite or la fin du monde.
