That is cool. I want one! Is that real water? I'd love to make it into an aquarium.

it just looked a little fake in the picture. Do you know who makes it and what it's made out of?

I have no idea - it was loverboy who found the picture but I can ask him if you want :)

Redlemon 08-09-2004 05:41 AM

It would have to have a glass surface instead of felt, so the dynamics would be all wrong. Probably a photoshop. But, very cool!

Not necessarily glass but I agree it looks a bit like a Photoshop job. Perhaps a clear plastic layer (like a screen protector) over the glass would give enough texture.

Also, the picture has wind ripples showing in the shadows.

bernadette 08-09-2004 07:42 AM

i'm fairly certain those balls would sink rather than float.

funny idea tho :)

Fremen 08-09-2004 06:28 PM

Niiiice slice. Thanks, Nance. ;)

todd 08-09-2004 07:24 PM

Thats actually a really neat idea. I think that one is photoshopped for sure, but I think it could be made to work for real. The surface would be glass of course, but theres the problem with the ball dynamics like redlemon said.

But what if the balls had a felt coat? The friction type would be the same as the normal thing - felt surface and smooth balls, just flipped - smooth surface and felt balls. Think it would work?

Fly 08-09-2004 08:26 PM

glass top..........balls can sit as they are now.

.....no?

bernadette 08-09-2004 08:56 PM

well sure. with a glass top, the balls will sit where they are in the pic.

but i don't see any hint of a glass reflection, so i'm saying there's NO glass & the balls should sink.

it's got to be a photochop.
the bumpers are pretty fuzzy too by comparison to the wood grain of the table. photochop.

still. i like the concept.

Fremen 08-09-2004 11:55 PM

todd said "felt balls"...

:D

jwoody 08-10-2004 12:17 AM

todd also said "smooth balls." Pfffft.

Nancy 08-10-2004 04:33 AM

It's indeed a Photoshop.. here's the original picture:

I'm still convinced it can be built though :)

that would be a neat detail for sure! But ... the fish would get too stressed if I started shooting some pool so i don't think it would be a good idea :)
