Can you drive, stick?

I like to think I'm a great driver, but when I think about it, having only 4 demerit points probably points to a different conclusion :(

I had a spotless record from 17 to 24. Then in the past 3 years I've:

- failed to stop at a stop sign (3 points - just got them back)

- Neg driving, morton in front slammed on the brakes, so i went straight up his coit (3 points)

- Mid-range PCA. Drank Beam cans at a MGF concert till it came out my nose, tried to drive from Wagga to Albury, made it two blocks (6 months)

- 127km/h in 100 zone. Late for a mate's funeral, fucken cop didn't give two squirts of piss. Other side of the coin is that he could've put me on the bag, in which I would've blown it up as it was 8:30am, and we drank ourselves muttless the night before, last rum at 4am. He could've also got me for the correct speed, which would've been closer to 145-150km/h. Jury is out on whether I want him to contract ebola or not (3 points)

- 68km/h in 50 zone. 1:30am on a Sunday night in Bumfuck Idaho, and he got me just before the 100 sign. Again, not sure whether or not to skin his children as it was a double-points weekend, and he bought it down from 6 points lost to 2.

I think that's it, let me see... stop sign, speeding, speeding, neg driving, DUI... yep, that's it. Can't wait to get a car actually worthy of insuring :\

How are all driving records looking? Hopefully better than that :(

cchris 07-24-2004 03:49 AM

I went 0.08 about 15 yrs ago & lost my license for three months.

Never did it again.Got all my points these day but always go about 10-15 over the speed limit.I have a small car that doesn't draw much attention so the wallopers pay me no mind I guess?

BUT.......................

Drove from Taree to Sydney on acid many years ago.

Fuck,wasn't that a blast.

Did you see the giant bats?

Nothing over here for me.. back home I lost my license after I went through 12 points.. 6 for doing 23mph over the speed limit.. 4 for "failure to give right-of-way".. +2 for being on the equivalent of my Ps

That's a hoot.

Mate...............

I witnessed plenty of shit that day & it ain't something that I am proud of either.
Driving down the expressway (speed limit of 110 ks) at 60km's p/h with huge grins on our faces.

Geez..We were fucking idiots.

Ella 07-24-2004 04:46 AM

Mate, I loved that fucking book. That adrenaline scene is the most fucked up shit I've ever read, I think.

I lost my licence twice - concurrently - in the late 80's. First time I was doing 90 in an 60 zone along Riversdale Rd in Hawthorn. Next time I was picked up driving on the wrong side of the road in front of Richmond police station on Swan St - I blew 1.2. Both times I was trying to piss my ex off. He'd dead now, and no, I didn't kill him.

I have lost no points since I got my licence back in 1991, although I do speed almost all of the time.

Are you serious? I used to live in Old Bar and that drive from Purfleet (Taree) to Bulladeelah was a fucking nightmare. People died there all the time and you did it looking through a kelidascope?? Nice!

cchris 07-24-2004 05:02 AM

Yep.

Fair dinkum.

We did have turns but......yeah.

bundy 07-24-2004 07:06 AM

btw, you can check your demerit points online these days at myRTA.com.au.

slimshaydee 07-24-2004 05:41 PM

I think if you lost 4 or 5 in a single year, you lose your license.... that's one among the many rules hehe

Thanx dude, I'll look it up.

I had my gold licence when I went through the stop sign (first offence). Believe me, it ain't worth shit. Everyone thinks the gold licence will help you out and make insurance cheaper, but I appealed using my gold licence and impeccable record, no dice. They don't care about that anymore, and insurance, man, the only thing that makes that cheaper is your 30th birthday party.

I can't begin...........

The stereo was worth more than the car for a start.

An electric aerial...A fucking Valiant with an electric aerial. It went up & down at every traffic light.

We must have stopped at least 20 times just to suss whatever out by the side of the road.............

Nah...

I'm gettin flashbacks.

Another time maybe.

Dil 07-25-2004 04:24 AM

hehehe, this is a funny topic cause it effected me greatly :|

im on my Green p's in nsw, i lost 8 points for speeding, 3 for no p plates, and go off with a warning with a red light camera ( totally different situation to the speeding / no p plates, and im currently got 3 months left from my 6month suspension :(

so here i am with out a licence and apretty bad driving record at the age of 19 (didnt we all? :P) i thought public transport would be a hell of alot cheaper then driving my car :| boy wasnt i suprised, im spending 20$ more asweek on transport as to what i was from driving, plus i loose the convenence of a car which also sucks

ahh so hopefully this will teach me a few lessons :) i sure hope so for my bank balance and insurance wise :|

Meridae'n 07-25-2004 04:54 AM

I was in a car in Bendigo driven by a bloke who'd taken half a bag of bloody mushrooms. Nothing really weird happened, in fact I had no idea about his state, but he started complaining about all the purple lights I thought something was amiss...

Mephisto2 07-27-2004 12:22 AM

Just drove my XR-6 Turbo from Sydney to Perth last month.

First day - 1000 KM, caught doing 139 just outside of Golbourn (lost three points and $200)

Second day - 1200 km, not a cop in sight. Hit about 180km and slowed down due to fear.

Third day - 1800 km, no cops but lots of dead roos and three (THREE!!) dead camels all at one spot. That must have been some road-train...

Mr Mephisto

PS - Yes, driving 1800km in one day is a pain in the ass.

Meridae'n 07-27-2004 01:20 AM

Not in a XR-6...

I'm currently driving around in an unregistered car as I don't get paid until Thursday... shhhhhh.

frozenstellar 07-27-2004 05:57 PM

so far a clean record. quite amazing my car hasnt had a canary slapped on it yet, considering i've been brethoed probably a dozen times in the past few months.

Meridae'n 07-28-2004 12:54 AM

Now there's a word that needs spelling confirmation...

cchris 07-28-2004 04:48 PM

Prolly on the metho again.

End User 07-30-2004 01:11 AM

I've lost two points for chucking a u-turn at a traffic light.
Apart from that, I've been a pretty good boy.

I thought that was only illegal if there was a no u-turn sign. I do it all the time

That's Vic rules. In New South they're a lot less U-turn/seat belt friendly...

Ella 08-01-2004 02:02 PM

The cops pulled us over for doing a u-turn shortly after we moved up here from Tassie. We used the 'just moved up from Victoria' excuse. They bought it.

Meridae'n 08-02-2004 12:05 AM

Your flouro skin woulda backed your story up...

Ella 08-02-2004 12:13 AM

Hahaha...you could be right. I thank that skin now, mostly due to the fact that I don't look my age. Or act it.

Meridae'n 08-02-2004 03:12 AM

Ella 08-06-2004 12:20 AM

Hey, I'm an easy target, babe. I have thick skin.

No thick or skin jokes, please lads. On the other hand...bring it on!

Latch 08-06-2004 01:16 AM

Easy target jokes allowed?

Meridae'n 08-06-2004 01:42 AM

She's a Victorian living in Brisbane... if you can't work with that, you might as well give up the game.

In NSW, you can not do a U turn at traffic lights, otherwise, open slather except where there is a sign.

QLD, I seem to recall, you can only do a U turn where there is a "U Turn allowed" sign.

Only just saw this - gotta say that speeding past the town where the police academy resides has gotta be a mistake. One of the most speed camera filled sections of highway anywhere :(

Latch 09-21-2004 12:10 AM

Oh.. don't think I ever mentioned...

I can drive stick... but I'm absolutely shit at it... I've never owned a car that was stick.. so I never bothered to learn.

So I come over here.. go to VicRoads to get an Aussie license... after taking some 20 (or was it 40?) question test (and that was it.. no road test), they give me my license... with the ability to drive stick... gotta love it :)

I was also 19 at this time.. and was a fucking bees dick away from having her give me my full license (instead of probationary). At the last minute she said "no... I better go check with my supervisor" and he said no. Ah well.. that's my short story of easily getting a license in Australia.

duxx0r 09-21-2004 12:45 AM

At the ripe old age of 22 my driving record is impeccable.

On the other hand, I got pulled over on my bike just after finishing my last exam of the semester at uni and the copper had a field day (the cunt). Got me for riding solo on an L plate, got me for a new front tyre (which was being fitted the next day) and the horn was wasnt working. All up I think I lost 2 points and scored about a $300 fine which hit pretty hard on a students income.

...and I can drive stick well.

hosti|e 09-23-2004 10:36 PM

You guys have pretty anal rules over there for some offences it seems. Us kiwis can get away with a lot, we have to be doing over 40k over the limit for instant loss of license

TIO 09-27-2004 03:32 PM

21 here, and not a scratch on my driving record. 4 years of no claim bonus, too.
And yes, I own a manual and hate driving autos...boring as bat shit.

But on the way back from Yanchep last weekend, I got rear-ended at a set of lights (yeah, it was a woman driver). Only had that car 2 months, and I get its arse bashed in.

Meridae'n 09-28-2004 12:09 AM

Damn man, that's fucked-up luck. Could be worse mate, at least noone was hurt. How much did that number-plate cost? I thought you were a Wallaby supporter...

Ella 09-28-2004 02:27 AM

Is that your Mum's car, Tio? Looks kinda flash for a 21 year old.

Actually, I'm just jealous. Can I have it? I'll pay for the repairs.

Latch 09-28-2004 04:45 AM

That sucks, mate. Did the chick have insurance?

TIO 09-28-2004 12:32 PM

No, Latch...and what makes it worse, is that she's a friend of ours. I was in the car with 4 other blokes, so when I got hit, I was all ready to go and rant at whoever it was. Four guys behind me, I was happy to pick a fight with anyone. Then it turns out to be this really nice girl who one of the guys in the car was trying to pick up...she's in my honours class, too, so I see her all the time.

Ella, I had $500 in the bank and told my folks I was going to buy whatever I could get for that...they bought me the 626 so I'd be driving safe. It was partly a 21st present, and partly money from a trust fund.

On a side note...I now officially love the RAC. I took my car in to their centre in Perth this morning. Got out, the girl there asked me for my odo reading, checked that I had a bit of fuel in it, and sent me in to the reception area. 5 minutes later, a taxi picked me up and drove me home, care of the RAC. When my car's ready, another taxi will drive me back out there, and I'll drive away. I'm mighty impressed!

Ishmal 07-31-2005 10:07 PM

/me brushes dust off an old thread,

i only just bought a manual, (i been driving a auto for years) and i'm loving it...

unfortunately(sp)

yeah we have seen it all on highway patrol. Now thats a killer show :o

dlish 08-02-2005 04:31 AM

been driving since for nearly 12 years now.. 1 redlight, and one warning for doing 70 in a 50 zone..

as for driving manual..i bought a suzuki sierra about a year ago (yes i taught myself how to drive manual when i bought it) ..goes like a whistle..not the fastest things on the rd, but definately fun and bumpy to drive. my fav car ive had so far, and i even have a brand new vw golf, but id rather the sierra any day!

ZenFilthPig 08-07-2005 03:48 AM

When I was working on the road (security tech) in a work supplied van, I got down to 2 points, then pretty much drove like a paranoid idiot until I got some back... no licence, no job. Now I'm in the office and drive a little shitbox that couldn't break the speed limit in a downhill school zone.

cinnles 08-07-2005 06:03 AM

I don't have a car licence, but I've been booked for speeding on the bike once, and done once for no p plates (pulled over cause I was riding without my headlight on in a well-lit area, go figure).

Ishmal 08-07-2005 06:12 PM

well there goes my last point...

guess i'll be riding my push bike to work again...

Latch 08-08-2005 12:10 AM

A cash car caught me the other day going bout 13 over (in a 60 zone). Guess that'll be a few points and a few hundred bucks.

htra0497 08-12-2005 08:51 PM

I'm surprise by the number of times you've been caught personally nothing has yet to happen to me. Maybe I'm just lucky 'cos I've done 180 in a 100 zone once.
