<small>For those of you who are not familiar with this game I will summarize it. The rules are pretty simple but different people play it different ways. This is how my friends, family and I play the slug bug game.
When you see a VW beetle (new or old) you punch everyone close to you and yell "Slug Bug! No returns!!"
No returns means they can not hit you back or the penalty is another hit by you for breaking the no returns rule.
The person who slugs the most people wins.
This is where rules may vary from person to person:
You can not slug the owner of a beetle if you see their car. Any other beetle, however, is fair game.
Looking away from the beetle and looking back does not give you the chance to slug again. But walking away from one in a parking lot and seeing the same one again when you leave is eligable for slugging again.
And that is about all there is to it. It's a silly game but fun, I promise. Give it a try. Remember, it's just for fun, don't go beating each other to death or anything.
Here's an interesting little aside I've heard. Some people on the east coast call this game "Punch Buggy" not Slug Bug.
Warning: Most VW owners (especially those fond of old ones I have found) have some strange sixth sense about beetles. I swear my ex-boyfriend had some sort of radar that panned out an area about 3 miles wide and would be able to slug me when the bug was a little dot further up the road. Use caution when entering a game with one of these people or you could get the tar beat out of you!</small>
