The 30 Second Mystery 71 - Why?
 

There are four categories: Who, What, Where and Why. Some will be easy, some not. I have as many as six clues to help you along, which I'll supply as needed.

Please limit yourself to one guess, and another guess for each clue I supply. No questions asking for help or hints are allowed. Partially correct answers won't be acknowledged. This is not a debate. The correct answer is the one in my head.

Wild guesses and comments are fine. In fact, they can add to the mystery and are fun to read. Be precise when guessing.

The Case:
In the 1950s a doctor prescribes an unusual and unappetizing diet to a reluctant individual. The doctor publishes the diet in a best selling book, even though no one actually followed the diet.

The Mystery:
Why did the doctor create the diet, and what was the name of the book?
