Carlton, Steve ...aka Lefty

...one of my Phillies pitcher heroes.

Steven Norman Carlton (born December 22, 1944 in Miami, Florida) is a former left-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball, from 1965 to 1988, who retired as one of the most successful pitchers to ever play the game, elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1994. He was affectionately known to Philadelphia fans as "Lefty." He played the greatest number of years for the Philadelphia Phillies, receiving his greatest acclaim as a professional and winning four Cy Young Awards. In addition, Carlton spent time with the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago White Sox, San Francisco Giants, Cleveland Indians and Minnesota Twins.

Carlton has the second-most lifetime strikeouts of any left-handed pitcher (4th overall), and the second-most lifetime wins of any left-handed pitcher (11th overall). He was the first pitcher to win four Cy Young Awards in a career. He held the lifetime strikeout record several times between 1982 and 1984, before his contemporary Nolan Ryan passed him. One of his most remarkable records was accounting for nearly half (46%) of his team's wins, when he won 27 games for the last-place (59-97) 1972 Phillies. He is still the last National League pitcher to win 25 or more games in one season, as well as the last pitcher from any team to throw more than 300 innings in a season. He also holds the record with the most career balks of any pitcher, with 90.

Nate Jackson (born June 4, 1979 in San Jose, California) is a American football tight end for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League. He was originally signed by the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2002. He played college football at Menlo College.

...is the sex-determining chromosome in most mammals, including humans. In mammals, it contains the gene SRY, which triggers testis development, thus determining sex. The human Y chromosome is composed of about 60 million base pairs.

kumquats

since I searched and found this interesting tidbit:

Jewel-Like Kumquats Are a Versatile, Tasty Fruit
Kumquat means "gold orange" in Chinese, and was first introduced to the United States in 1885, arriving in Saint Joseph, Fla., by way of Japan. That city now is known as the "Kumquat Capital," with orchards of the shrub-like trees blossoming with the beautiful jewel-like fruits among dark green leaves.

Kumquats can be eaten whole, but the peel is the sweetest part and good enjoyed separately. The seeds and juice are sour, so when eaten whole, the fruit produces a burst of sweet and sour.

BadNick 06-30-2008 10:43 AM

...her melodius laughter stirred my neurotic self, now wishing I was an octopus so I could use all eight arms to fondle her pineapples, to grope and quest for more softness, until she would route me away.
