HELP! Best Weapons/ammo for Zombies!
So I'm planning for a TOTAL SHTF (Shit Hit The Fan) situation and I want advice on how to deal with the inevitable Zombie attack.
Don't tell me flame throwers or tanks, I can't afford/get those things! And there could be A LOT of Zombies! What should I stock up on/buy?? |
Lighter fluid and parafin wax (candles will do). They make a quick and dirty napalm. Also, a good sized chainsaw would help.
|
Canned food, water, and plenty of good Asian porn.
|
A 12 gauge pump shotgun and lots of double ought buckshot. Carry all the shells you can. Unless you blow them to bits the fuckers just keep on coming.
I keep two sawed off semi-auto 12 gauges for just such occasions. I modified the bananna clips to hold 20 shots each. If both are fully loaded they will at least give you enough breathing space to chug a beer and reload for the next wave. If you load every other shot with a slug you can just pop their head off each time a slug comes up. It's fun to keep up with the head count. I also leave lots of pieces of duct tape laying around in the yard, sticky side up. It really messes with them when they get it stuck on their feet. |
Three shotguns, a loader and a thousand boxes of double aught buckshot.
Have the loader stand behind you and reload as you empty each gun. A couple hundred of gasoline might come in handy too. You can use it to make molitov cocktails, a fiery moat, or a very large bomb. |
Don't forget to pack a sturdy, sharp machete (or better yet, a katana) for extra-close combat. This little number is very handy when you run out of ammo or are otherwise being overwhelmed. Always aim for the neck.
Also, make sure to wear steel-toed boots. You never know when one of those animated fuckers is gonna try and chew your leg off. Give him a good kick in the noggin' to show him/her who's the boss. Tony Danza? I don't think so. Never use fire against a zombie. If you do, you just added another lethal weapon to its arsenal: fiery bear hug. That can't be good. Finally, get yourself a good garden sprayer. Then, slaughter a large animal and store its blood. Fill the sprayer's tank with the stuff and spray any large, oncoming group of zombies. This will confuse the fuck out of them and they'll just start eating each other for a bit. All you have to do then is pick'em off from a safe distance with your recently acquired bolt-action sniper's rifle. Again, head shots are key. Hail to the king, baby. |
Best weapons/ammo against Zombies.....
Realistically, and personally, I find that guns, unless it is something of a nature that can completely obliterate the head area an exercise in futility. One must destroy the brain and/or sever the spinal cord to be rid of these loathesome pests. All too often this requires riddling their rotting flesh with multiple projectiles until one has inflicted enough damage to meet the above requirements to retire a zombie. A Defensive Compound is imperative. Personally I would find a way to take over (and command) a small building within an enclosure - surrounded by chain link if possible - and reinforce the perimeter. Once the free world goes to shit and these slobbering bastards are on the loose, picking up supplies will be ...well, maybe not easy, but easy enough to loot from your local hardware stores and what have you. I would add concertina wire. Both sides. Maximum security prison style. I would procure a backhoe and dig a moat, five feet wide, eight feet deep with sharpened stakes at the bottom so those little fuckers aren't getting out easily once they'r edown there. I would supply my compound with a generator, at least three work trucks (to haul supplies) and have gasoline, dry goods and water on hand, and plenty of it. I would build a high watch point if there wasn't one already and arm myself with a high powered sniper rifle to pick the wandering idiots off from a distance. A generator and clean water supply is paramount as zombies have a tendency to take out power lines inadvertently and should one or more of them fall into the water supply and contamitate it, you'll be happy you have your evian/deer park/polar/store brand water instead of throwing down zombie juice. I would also stock up on medical supplies, everything from bandages and antibiotic ointment to medical instruments forceps and the like (to remove foreign objects *cough bullets-from-other-looters cough*), medical books (Merck's, Gray's, PDR) and plenty of drugs (NON recreational - don't risk chemical mind vacations and let your guard down). Fire is good. Wether or not you want to clear out the Korpse Kabobs™ with flames, chainsaws, or hefty bags is your choice. But you don't want these things to accumulate like some sort of giant air DErefshener, yaknowwhatImean? So keep plenty of fire making utensils, devices, whatever on hand. Anything along the lines of projectile/incindiary devices are good. If you can't get 'em, learn how to make 'em. Grenades Gooooooood. Take along books. Plenty of books and things to keep yourself occupied. World's King was gracious enough to suggest Asain Porn, although I am not a fan myself. Try to think of it as a really long camping trip. Or like building a fort when you were a kid. Only when your friend raided your fort they didn't rend you limb from limb and eat you. If I seem a little obsessed; yes, I wholeheartedly embrace that. I have been worrying incessantly about the impending doom of all things zombie since about age four. I go to sleep at night pondering which pieces of furniture would be pushed up against the windows to bar entry. I... ...I have spent far too much time on this. p.s. oh yeah, and everything Ogre and Bob Biter said. |

Here's my idea...just get some large speakers. When the zombies start to attack, play some Michael Jackson. When they all gather into a formation and start dancing, run up and kick them in the balls. A good kick to the groin will drop anything, living or dead. |
I'm not speaking from personal experience here, but pretty much all the zombie literature (<a href="http://us.imdb.com/Title?0083907">eg</a>) seems to prefer a shotgun and a chainsaw.
|
Learn the dark necromantic arts so when you encounter them you can control them with a gesture or your voice. Or, learn some arts of a holy cleric so you can get some practice in turning them.
|
Good advice everyone.
I'm thinking of buying a compound in the mountains where there is less population density. I'm now recruiting core members for my future survival group. PM me if interested. Only prepared individuals need apply. |

all you need to do is have a 9 and live next to a wal mart or something where it has lots of guns/ammo and when they attack hold them off with your 9 and then steal all the guns and stuff you need saves money you know
|
The important thing is not the gun, but your aim. Remember, you have to shoot them in the head. If you blow their legs off, they just drag themselves toward you and try to nibble on your ankles.
Also, one bite and your done for...so aim true and don't be a showoff. Shopping List: 9mm pistol w/ extra capacity magazine, Ingram Mac-10 Submachine Gun, M-16 set to fire three round bursts, sharp pointy stick. Most important: Extra clips and ammunition for all. End up with an empty gun and you're stuck munching on your friends for all eternity. |
I would probably go for brute force, rip apart weaponry. I'd hate to think I downed a zoombino with a 9mm hollow point, only to turn my back and have the zombie have its own person second coming.
I would use a shotgun most like armed with a buckshot, slug and illegal flechette rounds. Sure the flechettes might be illegal now, but if you're hardcore into fighting the undead, you would've been stockpiling them long before they became illegal. The buckshot whould have widespread stopping power, the slugs would have massive small contact area damage, and the flechettes would just tear through anything they hit. At my side, I would have the 9mm, modified to fire automatic, glock. And as final short range, I would have a Desert Eagle .50 AE. For long distances, I would by toting the .50 Barrett model M82A1. This rifle would keep the devil himself from knocking on your door. The round would go through one zombie and plunk itself into the next. Also, I'd leave a couple of M4A1's laying around, with incendiary ammunition if possible for the mid range combat. You should be ready... For the First Wave at Least. ;) |
Hmm... when it comes to undead, I'm definitely all about the shotguns. Which type is a matter of personal preference, but generally the faster you can fire and reload, the better.
I'll have to go with wakelagger's suggestion for the desert eagle, too-that size munition has great stopping power, and blows nice-sized chunks out of zombies. Also good is some sort of chopping weapon, since when they close distance, a gun can be rather unwieldly. Slashing swords of any type are good, as are machetes. Chainsaws and axes are also good, but with chainsaws you need to worry about gas and jamming the blade, and axes don't have much of a cutting surface. Fire is key. Molotov coctails, signal flares, anything that you can burn things with will work well. Just make sure the bastards are thoroughly crispy, because if they aren't completely done, they occasionally will get up for more. Although the compound idea is a good one, I prefer hit and run tactics. Any compound, no matter how good the defenses, can be overrun, its really just a matter of time. My suggestion is this. Get together a band of freedom fighters, and set up hidden bases to operate from. Mountains and dense woods are good for this purpose, especially if they are near small towns. Also, stash supplies in hidden caches around your designated combat area. Send out patrols, and use guerilla tactics to take out the zombie bastards. The small towns can be looted later, since the zombies will have no interest in the supplies. Use the supplies in the caches to continue the fight, but never lead the zombies to the secret base of operations. If it is hidden well enough, they won't find it (they tend to be pretty stupid). Using these tactics, you can continue the fight for a long time. If you set up a weaponsmithing workshop in the hidden base, even better. Just reuse the shells, filling them with whatever you have available to you. Its been proven in history that these tactics can allow a weaker, poorly supplied force to defeat a larger better equipped army, so it should work against the zombies. |
watch maguyver, hell show you how to make a flam throwe with an old bike, some paint and boogers... it's soo powerful... takes out any zombies that might be steppin up in your piece
|
A pump-shotgun with a good capacity is a must. Instead of regular shells, take some, pry them open (point away from face, hands, and groin) and dump the contents. leave a bit of powder, then pour in some napalm (anyone who's seen "Fight Club" can make it, I won't post a recipe for legal reasons. All three ways he says in the book work.) seal those suckers back up, wipe with a clean, dry cloth, and you have dragonsbreath ammo. you fire, you get a good 15-25 feet of flame coming out of the barrel. After 4 or 5 shots, give the barel 15 seconds to cool. You can pass the shotgun to another person to reload, while you take the second one that he's loaded and use that. Just to give him some fun, switch jobs after a few volleys and give him a shot.
There's also a wonderful invention called a Dial-a-star. It's basically a flare-gun revolver with 7 shots. You know how much those zombie bastards love fire, let them have it. Wear heavy gloves for that one. |
Another lawn-gardening tool that can come in very handy: Lawn-mower. If anyone's seen Dead Alive then they can agree with me on the effectiveness of this tool. Strap it to your chest and go!
|
Lay chain link on the ground and when the undead bastards come, plug that boy into a high amp circuit. For extra meassure. Soak the ground with some flammable substance. When the first wave is done light up the second. This should protect you from any undead army.
|
a couple of these can't hurt, as well. Plus it's guaranteed! (for what good that's going to do)
|
chain-saw...big ass chainsaw.
|
amputate an arm, surgically graft a modified chainsaw to it, get an old car, turn that into a "Deathcoaster," and carry a large boomstick.
|
steal homestar's credit card number, he's pretty stupid. Strong Bad did it once before and got a lot of shit, like robots and space ships. He has an INSANE credit limit.
|
For Zombies there is a flesh eating disease, (forget the name but its nasty) that will disolve the flesh off the bones.
Once they are bones all you need is a BIG woofer to reduce them to shards using sound. Hell if you can't beat 'em join 'em |
yeah, u people are scaring me, zombies dont exist right?
|
hmm. are they just awakening and coming for you or is a necromancer calling them? if the necromancer is at work, it will not matter if you hit their brain or not.
blades. machette, swords, axes shotguns, .50s, aresol cans and fire. also build a few swinging spikes for when too many get close. try to put up pictures of boobies for distraction, too....... |
|
if you've got enough time you should consider a deep moat complete with alligators, its well known that zombies sink, and alligators will eat anything.
also consider stocking up on acid (not the drug). if you can jury rig some sort of pressurized spray delivery system, the acid will turn them into puddles. |
Your gonna need a large hole, and an even larger meatball my friend.
|
Just put a chainsaw on your hand and load up your "boomstick."
|
http://www.mst2-vietnam.info/Stoner_...notes/mk19.jpg
MK19 auto grenade launcher, maybe with some airburst rounds for long distance undead pulverizing, and for when they get close then you can have some flechette rounds for this 40mm beauty,.... thats right a 40 mm flechette round, oh the carnage. |
I advise a flamethrower or a 50cal machine gun. Might need to mount it on a turret, but who cares. :)
|
I assume you are on a low budget. Buy alot of iodine and ammonia. Mix it in ethyl alcohol, the purer the better. Try to keep grandma from drinking the shit, it's not good for her. Let the alcohol evaporate away, and you'll have some mighty fine impact grenades.
|
I'm still all for the hit and run tactics... I'm guessing the war against the bastards won't end quickly. But I must say, I like reconmike's gun... a few of those m19s would definitely help :D.
Put em on the back of an offroad go-cart or ATV... that way you can blast em to hell, then make a hasty getaway back to your secret hidden bunker in the mountains. |
this works for me:
<img src="http://www.mossberg.com/pcatalog/images/0250665.gif"> #50665 590® 12 ga. Pump Action 9-shot capacity, parkerized finish, bead sight, 20" cylinder bore barrel with heat shield and Speed-Feed® stock |
oh, with the pistol grips and my "special" load. (that's 10 dimes surrounded by birdshot) it will put a hole the size of your fist through a refrigerator.
|
I see that a lot of people recommend the use of fire in our battle for survival against the unrelenting zombie hordes.
As I have mentioned before, fire is NOT your friend. Sure, incendiary rounds might be great and all, but strapping on a flame thrower or tossing molotov cocktails is VERY ILL-ADVISED! Zombies do not fear fire. They do not fear anything, as that part of their brain is long dead. Only the limbic region is even remotely active and concentrates mostly on keeping the body in motion to delay gangrene and rigor mortis. Setting a zombie on fire will not even slow it down and now you have a living fireball coming at you (or a group of fireballs, if you go crazy with the fuego). However, for all you pyros out there who simply MUST use fire, please use it from a safe distance. Got some homemade napalm or TNT? That's great, pal, but only use that shit for traps and NOT weapons. For those of you that want to hole up and stay put, fill a couple of those portable gas tanks with napalm, strap a thermite igniter underneath it and hang those babies at a 7-9-foot height in key entry areas. If you don't have thermite igniters, you can use nautical flares (which are more powerful than road flares) and tape them on the inside of your tanks. However, make sure that the flares are not submerged by gas. Obviously, you're gonna need some kind of remote detonator, or at least a pulley system, to set your thermite/flares off. Once it blows, any zombies located within 20 yards will take a nice hot shower that'll burn for a few hours. Using this kind of incendiary defense only works in urban settings. If you want to make your stand in a wooded area, then NEVER USE ANY KIND OF INCENDIARY WEAPONS/TRAPS WHATSOEVER, or you'll end up nice and crispy like the stiffs out to get you. Can we say "forest fire"? Can we say "complete lack of firefighting services since they're all zombies by now anyway?" It's just common sense. Also, I'm against the idea of holing up altogether. Gather a band of survivors, get a few winnebagos and keep moving. A sitting duck ALWAYS gets taken down sooner or later, so it's best to keep traveling. Supplies and gas can always be found on the way. While you're at it, strap a couple of those MK19's or .50 cal. machine guns on your vehicles (motorhome tops make great turrets), attach a few extra bumpers on all sides, and you'll make Mad Max shit himself. Now, all that's left to do is play "Let's Plow Into Mr. Zombie," "Strafe the Shambling Mob," and "5-Minute Supply Run." Enjoy! Oh, just a friendly warning to those who'd like to pay Mr. Lebell a visit in his fortified compound: his sig is the Addam's Family motto - "We Gladly Feast On Those Who Would Subdue Us." Nice try, zombie lord. And this thread isn't just a clever way to gauge our resources and tactics, right? Eat me. Heh. |
Any fully automatic rifle that shoots 50 cal bullets.

are you not taking this a little too seriously?

ak-47's

Find a fire hydrant and a wrench. Get a hose and a priest. The priest besses the hydrant (the water becomes holy water), wrench open the hydrant, let loose on those suckers.
I assume holy water would kill them and stuff... it works on vampires for sure. |
Okay, the first thing you need to consider is what kind of zombie we are talking about. Given the recent lack of faith in the dark arts, I suspect we're covering the virus-induced-mindless-undead-hordes that are so popular in movies such as 28 Days.
Now, what are the defining characteristics of these creatures? A) A near immunity to pain. B) A mindless desire for flesh. C) A severe threat for infection. Now, this presents us with several problems. The most notable is that your standard bullet will not cause sufficient tissue damage to stop a zombie. Direct annihilation of motor control facilities, fatal wounds to major organs, and severe blood loss are the only way to guarantee the zombie will be stopped. Fire, while brutally effective (and particularly cleansing of potential infection), is slow-to-act on creatures that are incapable of feeling pain. Fire also carries severe personal risk, and is not recommended for untrained civilian use. The ideal weapon, therefore, is a shotgun. Shotguns are ideally designed for maximum tissue damage, and are simple enough that even a child can reliably operate one. This is preferred over automatic weaponry, or other less-portable forms of weaponry. Furthermore shotguns are very efficient in terms of ammunition expenditure; far fewer shots are required to kill a zombie with a shotgun relative to automatic weapons. The only major issue shotguns have is ammunition capacity; most shotguns carry few rounds relative to automatic weapons. Now, what about a secondary weapon? Most would suggest a chainsaw, but a chainsaw has a fatal flaw; it requires gas and oil. A standard melee weapon is far more effective in the long run. Ideally you want something that requires little training to use, such as a mace. Swords require extensive maintanence and practice; maces or hammers let you smash something until it dies. Blunt objects also reduce the chance of blood-borne pathogens from spreading via splatter. Now, the final consideration is one of location. Some would argue that constant mobility is required, in essence a nomadic form of life. I would suggest the alternative; a static lifestyle in a remote location far from major population centers. Living off the land is not too difficult, particularly in the wilderness, and you'll never lose a battle if you don't have to fight any. If you must remain mobile, an army-style HUMVEE (the original, not the prissy-ass "HUMMER 2") is ideal. The combination of ruggedness, offroad capability, and diesel engine makes survival far easier. |
AK-47 hollow tipped bullets. Except carve an x on the top of the bullet itll rip apart into pieces, innaccurate but deadly. You could also use a 10 gauge shotgun but that isnt fun.
|
Okay first of all, I'll need some protection (thank god i make chainmaille). I'll probably a get a tight, strong, yet light weave of titanium, proably something around euro4-1 14g 3/8id. That should protect me pretty thouroghly. Probably, also a gas mask, or respiration device, just in case.
Then, I'll need some very close range weaponry, for when it gets ugly, probably some retractable blades mounted onto my wrists, about 2 feet long or so. Probably a very strong titanium alloy. snap action, so with a flick of my wrist, it'll pop out. For moderate close ranger, probably 2 katanas, built from very fine, whatever katanas are made out of. I would have to spend a bit of time learning how to use them right, so i don't cut myself to peices using 2 at the same time. Next an ideal medium-long range weapon would be something that can do lots of damage, over a large range, and have lots of ammo. Probably an assault-type gun, with explosive ammuniton. A good long range weapon would be a rocket launcher of some kind. A good one, that does lots of widespread damage, able to take out a whole crapload of zombies in one blast. |
Can never beat a bottle of whiskey and a lighter/blowtorch.
Take a bit of whiskey in your gullet light your torch and spit! This will invariably light one of the little fucks on fire and while he stumbles around all firey and ablaze he'll light other zombies from the horde on fire. When you run out of whiskey to spit on the little living dead fucks go Silent Hill Style on them with a sword, stick, or pipe. A good smack and they'll fall down and won't get back up again! And if all that fails! Bow down onto your knees and pray the S.T.A.R.S., or some other video game heroes come to save you! |
Grab a good 4 foot katana and start servering some heads. The Romero zombies are basically falling apart due to the decay process. A good japanese katana will be able to deal with hundreds of zombies before needing sharpening, which can be done fairly easily and quickly in the Highlander method. Better than fire because it doesn't need fuel and doesn't carry a burn risk, better than guns because of the reload time and required ammo and better than a chainsaw because it doesn't need gas and is much more manuverable. Another option is to use a dai-sho set, the two foot and four foot sword. This style is advocated by the samurai, and we all know that samurai movies are better than zombie movies so you are guarenteed to win.
|
Nothing evacuates the cranial space of a zombie like the .454 Casall loaded with 300 grain hollow points.
|
Ive given this a little thought-
First buy a river camp not some pussy camper next to a river, i mean a real fucking house on metal stilts (the stilts in real life are used so ur house doesnt get flooded). Make sure the stilts are over 10 feet tall at least and at least 4 inches wide. Then take all stairs and steps off and replace the with a rope laders or retracktable laders. Then put some fuckin land mines around the perimeter of the camp. Grease the metal stilts just in case they try to climb them. Get lots and lots of water and food provisions and basic living supplies. You still need weapons to take out them zombie bastards. I would take two 12 gauge shotguns with pistol grips, extended 8 shot magazines with double ought buck shot in them, and sawed off barrels. Then two identical colt 45's and a belt to hold at least 5 clips a peace. To pick those ugly fuckers off at a distance i would use a 30-06 with a high powered scope( i can already shoot a paint can at 150 yards, thats for fun not Zombie killing). Then some fuckin explosive arrows like on the dukes of hazzard to blow those fucks up. Stock pile lots of ammo, dynamite, and arrows: buy at least 2 cases of 45 caliber military ammo, 2 cases of 12 gauge double ought buckshot, and a case 30-06 ammo. If ur married with kids or have a girlfriend thats better she can either help shoot or load ur weapons. The Zombies might start piling up around ur camp and ur running low on ammo so I would also keep a couple Badass medevil weapons. Some real fuckin Braveheart shit, a fuckin big ass Battle sword and Battleax just in case. If worst comes to worst u sould have a couple razer sharp Buck knifes one on ur belt and one our boot. I hate to say it U also might want to keep a journal to record whats going on if u die but i fuckin doubt it with this set up. Those bastard zombies may have a some fuckin problems when they when they stumble on to a river camp like this. -Early H |
Its not taken it seriously, its being imaginitive and expressing urself.

I personally
Don't enjoy going in with heavy equipment, I like the feeling of finesse. I find it usually in pistols. It's just my preference. Hollow point .357 sig. 500+ foot pounds per second of damage. Unlike a shotgun you will HAVE to aim well, and you won't be able to do much at range.
As for a rifle, well I would pick a reliable, effective weapon that you can carry with you on foot easily. I would never rely on transportation. My choice would be the m4 or m16. Some recommend the AK-47 which would end up being easier to care for and more reliable, but it's a bit heavier. You can get the RO979 (flat top, semi/burst) model with a grenade launcher for when the shit hit's the fan. Throw on a 4x scope and you have a good all around weapon for medium and even long range. With practice I bet you could get headshots at 200 meters. I would stress headshots at any range. Shotguns would still require headshots not mattter how tweaked they are. Shotguns however simply don't have the range that pistols and rifles do. Hollowpoint .357 is more then enough to incapacitate a zombie if you get a headshot each time, in room clearing and last minute self defence situations it would work great, not to mention you can get 17 round mags, or even larger extended ones. Having an effective backup weapon is must, what if you run into a fellow survivor? You need to equip him also without disarming yourself in any way. And I agree with everyone else, ammo ammo ammo. Ever see the bank shootout in heat? Double that + Pistol clips. Since your not being shot at you can put 12 clips strapped to your legs 28 rounds each without fear of the clips being hit. And alternative to a .357 is the 9MM GL-18. It's really cool, but eats up ammo. It's a full auto pistol (it also does semi) and it can empty a 28 round clip in a bit less then 2 seconds. Not really practical but very amazing to watch. The advantage over other SMGs is that it is no larger then the average pistol. Also make sure you have ammo stashed around whereever you plan on being. You may end up in situations where you have to waste enough that you'll need to restock. Due to viral considerations I would go with a full tactical armor to prevent gnawing and splatter and other such nastiness, not goggles, but a face shield would be nice. It's a bit heavy, but the heavy cloth is quite strong. For vehicular equipment I would recommend a lightly equipped vehicle with good gas milage. Armor isn't critical vs. zombies so a hummer is pointless, (although the mobile .50 cal would help keep you from getting surrounded) If you want a weapon to use at extreme range or for base defence go with the barrett m82A1, a round anywhere in the chest will blow the zombie to pieces quite literally. The barrett claims to be accurate up to two miles, but reality is closer to a mile and it ships with a 10x scope I believe. And shiz... use common sense... stay the hell away from formerly crowded urban centers. |
samurai sword (katana) go old school on the undead bastards.

rent evil dead and evil dead two. take notes. :)

i know alot of people are saying to get an ak gernades and shit like that. the fact is that this is not a movie if you want to survive you also need to no your facts the zombie survival guide by max brooks
First and formost you must pack as much dry food and water as possible and headout to a friends perferably someone you trust and know. But if you ganna try and survive it yourself good luck my friend because you might as well go out there and let them feast the fuck out of you. you must be in a group of 3 to 4 people know more or less the more you have the fast the food will vanish even if you do rashon it. and the less you have the more you must do and saving your energy is the key to surviving. Defending is not an easy task what im about to tell you is the key defence. You must first find a 2 story house fill all the bathtubs full of water so if you water supplie runs out or if the water line is turned off at least you got water then hack the shit out of the staircase WARNING!!! do not try and burn it down cause it could get out of control and then burn the whole house down fences and barb wire is a must. by fences i mean by chainlink fences. A chainlink fence is the best for zombie sieage a fence like that can hold a crowd of zombies but not for long. if chainlinked fences are not availble cars are the next best like a fence they are heavy and strong make a line of them and by the time they scramble over it that should give you enough time to peck ones head off. guns and how to used them first lay low for a while it may be right to go to a local gun shop and take whatevers there but thats what everyone would do they would even kill a inoccent person to get ahold of a firearm after a couple days go and grab the guns but not just any guns grab the most important. List Semi auto rifle(with scope and if possible night vision) Pistal (laser sighting if possible) 12 gauge shot gun crossbow (scope) it may sound stupid but its perfect for a silent kill and as much ammo as possible shooting getting a head shot is not an easy task it takes skill so what you must do it find a some cans or something to shoot at for practice once you get good at a sertain distance half that. that will be your kill zone whatever is in you kill zone theres a 90% chance of a kill shot also practice with the rifle shot gun there is no need. also you must have fun will killing the dead its true so get some boardgame risk,etc.. also earplugs are a must hearing the grons and moans of a zombie can make a person go mad even kill someone |
www.zombiehunters.org
they are actually into disaster prep, with the idea of zombies to make it fun and lighthearted rather than attracting all the world is ending types- for me and the wife, in the event of zompocalypse, its an AK-47 and sidearm for her, an sks and sidearm for me, and spare pistols for all..... and lots of ammo, then its load the gear into the car and baby into the carseat, and its off to the parents house, which we jokingly call the compound, where we have a generator, catfish pond, and buldozer, among other handy items...... (we decided to prepare for disasters after katrina, and that included in my case an excuse to buy guns.....) |
Heh.
|
i would say the best weapon would be a SUV with a brush guard on the front...for hand held, you want a machete/sword cause that will never run out of bullets or jam and you have to remove the head to stop them...other than that, shotguns are you best bet....if you want to hole up in a compound, then a 50 calibre sniper rifle, which shoots a klick and takes down anything....

So.... I gotta bring my own Flame Thrower/Tank/Silver bullets, et al?????? :paranoid: :paranoid: :paranoid: :paranoid: |
The best firearm would probably be any assault rifle you can get your hands on. It would be a mistake to suggest a shotgun. Shotshells are a lot larger and heavier than normal assault rifle rounds, much shorter range, and a shotgun cannot be fired nearly as fast as a magazine-loaded rifle. AR15 / AK47 would be the best choice, although any rifle with significant magazine capacity 15+ rounds could work fine.
The combination of gasoline and a flare gun has been noted to work when the zombies are in tight groups and you have adequate time to prep and escape. The best hand-to-hand piece is probably a titanium pry bar. Lightweight and good for brain-shots. A machete would be okay, but has to be kept extremely sharp at all times to be effective. |

i don't know. zombies are dead, and rotting, so, unless they are really fresh, you should be able to muscle your way through the rotting sinew and such...it's not the sharp, just the thin blade and force..... |
Yeah, but I've killed zombies before. I know these things.
... Thin blade isn't enough, bro. A bread knife is a shitty anti-zombie choice. What I should have continued with is: Sharp or heavy. The key to success is getting weight behind the business portion of the weapon... whether its the projectile size/weight (as in an AK round) or a bolo or khurk as far as cutting weapons... The standard straight machete, due to lack of weight, needs to be sharp. You won't get enough momentum from a barely 2 lb machete. Weapons like khurks or bolos don't have to be as sharp because they have more weight... blunt force trauma combined with the minimal cross section contact ensure cleavage of won't-stay-dead limbs. Think: Claymore. Those swords weren't particularly sharp, but had a lot of mass behind them. Quote:

Not meaning to kill it, though I think it might be necessary: disbelief?

Cricket bats. How have you all forgotten to use cricket bats?

First off, I would like to point out the biggest disadvantage of firearms: finite ammunition. Unless you are living out of an arms manufacturing plant or know how to make your own, you are going to eventually run out of ammo.
If zombies are overrunning the land, chances are that society has been disrupted and all the ammo has been claimed by various individuals. There is only so much to go around; it will eventually run out. Reminder: zombies are the living dead; the undead. They have lots of time, we don't. Second, bladed weapons, though more practical than guns, do have another disadvantage mentioned above: they need to be kept sharp or they'll be ineffective. This is a big disadvantage if you are mobbed for more than a few hours. Although zombieflesh is rotting and relatively easy to hack, they do have bones and will eventually make your blade dull. Therefore, I offer you the perfect, fail-safe, zombie-fighting weapon: the morningstar. The morningstar is little more than a big, heavy, spiked metal ball on the end of a chain attached to a handle. They are durable, requiring little maintenance, lasting pretty much forever. What's more, the action on a morningstar is ideal versus zombies. First, the chain arrangement is perfect for getting that snap-the-whip action to get that spiked ball at a decent velocity. Second, the natural weight of a big metal ball lends to some kick-ass momentum. Third, the damage you will bestow upon your necroadversaries will be both bludgeoning and tearing. Imagine, if you will, being brained by a spiked metal ball, only to have it ripped away a moment later. Not good, eh? That's the point. Low-tech, high-impact damage. Guns, though efficient and highly damaging, won't be practical if the legions of dead are around for a few years. I'm not saying avoid them altogether. Hell, lock and load, my friends. Just be sure to seek thee a morningstar, so thou hath something akin to the arm of God. Godspeed, my kin. Strike down thy vile enemies, the treachery of Satan. May you prevail, and smite their ruins down into the hells from whence they came! I forever remain, Your brother at arms, Sir Baraka_Guru Knight of the Holy Fist |
HAHAHAHHAHA!
You and your damn morning star. |
Nonsense though this is, I humbly request it gets removed to T.weapons.

Look out for these. |
...Zombies crumble if the livings' horror doesn't outweigh their disbelief.
May your brain never tire! |
In the short term, I think i'd go with sortof a Casey Jones look-- several aluminum bats in a bag I can keep on my back as sortof a sheathe. Not the most effective thing you could use since it's not going to hold up forever, but I don't own a gun (or a morningstar) and going to a gun store during the initial mass panic sounds like a great way to get shot. Once I had a chance to get a bit more organized and things were more deserted, THEN I would find something with some range to it. Even then it probably won't be anything fancier than what I could find in the sporting goods department in Wal-Mart, partially just so ammunition will be easy to find as I go.
I really like the morningstar idea, but where would one FIND something like this? From what I've heard the average replica weapon isn't very durable (yeah, good like with those katanas guys... there's a reason I'll be leaving my klaive behind when the outbreak starts  ) and I don't think I've ever seen even a replica morningstar. Do you have a museum nearby that you're going to go raid or something? |
Zombies, as creatures with an Undead template, are pretty easy to deal with. Unless you shoot well, guns are just no good at all: As piercing weapons, they're less effective against zombies, which have DR 5/Slashing. As such, I'd suggest a +5 Keen Sacred Longsword of Holy Burst. With even the smallest prayer, you can dust dozens of them, and the raw spiritual energy wrapped around the blade should render the weapon itself little more than a vessel for the furious rage of God...
Edit: 9/20: Aww. I appear to have killed the thread with my geek. |
right lets think about this theres more of us and we're quicker than them we know about things like guns and we're all more likely to kill them than they are likely to kill us so therefore we find a military base wherever or a wallmart for ammo make sure we have guns or as some have said a katana or the bigger ones i can't remember but we get those and a fast car and a land rover and make sure they don't catch us and of course a strimmer and a supermarket trolley with pitchforks and other sharp things in it and just mow them down

Mmm. Coming back to this thread makes me way happy. Feels like home.
... Another excellent choice for the undead would be a .22 WMR bolt action. Light and with enough power to pop a braineater's skull. |
Guns aside, Planster has a better idea of what is better, I offer the perfect backup sidearm for zombie killing.
The War Hammer. http://www.by-the-sword.com/acatalog/images/cd-167b.jpg Hammer-shaped on one side for blunt trauma damage to zombie heads and a nice pick-like point on the other side for maximum zombie killing. Quote:
BG can take a heavy, momentum driven (you have to build up speed for the morning star to become truly effective, except wide swings which wouldn't be good for close melee and fast moving targets), un-weldly morning star. I'm taking a light, (> 5lb) fully forged, steel pickaxe with me to open up some zombie heads. PS. Nice necro Plan, loving it. ***** I have a plan for the Z-War that involves taking over a wal-mart, fortifying the area, and holding out there for a month or so to find out if the government is going to come in a help us or not. I'd go into it, but I can only tell the people that are coming with me about it. |
