that photo reminded me of this photo I took at MegaCon back in Orlando a few years ago...is your guy from the same 'anti-Scientology' group?

That protester MM is from "Anon" which is basically a unofficial section of 4chan.org (which is the worse place on the internet). They have adapted the Guy Faux mask as their official symbol and use it for protesting purposes. They hate Scientology and were the ones to take down their official website a few times. They got the use of the mask from "V for Vendetta" (The first picture of it from Jetee's first post is from the movie).
Here for more information (NSFW). (I'll edit and post a pic later) |
oh, I'm aware of 4chan...my middle daughter used to hang out there. Then she grew up, lol. But I read a lot of stupid shit looking over her shoulder. ah, youth...they're the future, you know. ;)

A Palestinian youth hurls stones during clashes with Israeli troops, not seen, in Shuafat refugee camp in east Jerusalem, Friday, March, 19, 2010. Palestinians in east Jerusalem and the West Bank lobbed rocks at Israeli security forces, set garbage bins and tires ablaze and torched an Israeli flag in a new outbreak of violence over contested Jerusalem building plans and unsubstantiated rumors about threats to the city’s holiest shrine. -- (AP Photo/Sebastian Scheiner) |

I found this image while looking for photos of India, but I'm pretty certain it is in Eastern Europe somewhere.
http://www.myotherdrive.com/dyn/file...005-1-pic0.jpg |
mm,
those bikinis look like cabbage leaves ...in eastern europe that might mean they're stuffed cabbages, while in France it might be "mon petit chou" http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2..._gallery36.jpg From November, 1969 to June, 1971, a group called Indians of All Tribes, Inc., occupied Alcatraz Island. This group, made up of American Indians relocated to the Bay Area, was protesting against the United States government’s policies that affected them. They were protesting federal laws that took aboriginal land away from American Indians and that aimed to destroy American Indian cultures. The Alcatraz occupation is recognized today as one of the most important events in contemporary Native American history. It was the first intertribal protest action to focus the nation’s attention on the situation of native peoples in the United States. The island occupation ignited a protest movement which culminated with the occupation of Wounded Knee on the Pine Ridge Reservation of the Oglala Sioux in South Dakota in 1973. Because of the attention brought to the plight of the American Indian communities, as a result of the occupation, federal laws were created which demonstrated new respect for aboriginal land rights and for the freedom of American Indians to maintain their traditional cultures. ps: I'll believe that when I see it. |
thanks for delivering such a history-laden post, BadNick (and a reply on cabbages as well).
- - - What: United for Peace and Justice Anti-war National Mobilization When: October 27th 2007 Where: Orlando, Florida at Lake Eola http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2083/...ce86149fc2.jpg Infidel by danny.hammontree author's comments: Although it was raining most of the day, the United for Peace and Justice Anti-war rally at Lake Eola in Orlando, Florida, had a really good turnout. There were many speakers at the event, maybe too many, but the testimony given by Iraqi war veteran Clifton Hicks made it all worth it, as his accounts of what happened during his deployment in Iraq moved many to tears. As the march started, the skies opened up and a deluge of rain came down. The marchers moved through the streets undeterred, and at about a mile into the march, came upon a small group of pro-war protesters that call themselves the Gathering of Eagles. These self proclaimed “real Americans” yelled hateful phrases and gave the old middle finger salute to everyone as they walked by. This conflict was pretty much over before it started, because the ratio of anti-war protesters to pro-war protesters was so great. |

^^ the above is actually an example of a street sign, an oddly specific one at that, but not one that denotes anything pertaining to a protest rally and/or message.
If we could not feature any more of those, as this meant to be a commons for protests signs and/or "signs of protest". Always understanding... - - - like so: topic - Immigration Reform http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4020/...924d45e929.jpg seen in the street of Seattle, on May Day, 2010 ; by citywalker http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4012/...29742822a3.jpg seen in the street of Chicago, on May Day, 2010 ; by Ben Syverson http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4013/...020c44428b.jpg seen in the streets of Los Angeles, on May Day, 2010 ; by jvoves http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4019/...49a12b6e7b.jpg taken at the rally in Wash.
