7...i never thought of an author as an entertainer but i noticed you have that on your list above (post#116)...so is she an author?
|
7) not necessarily (though the person in question's profession 99.4% of the time would never be regarded as an "author", she does often creatively write in order to further the calling.)
|
8) is she an American? ...either born in America or now a naturalized American?
|
8) yes. (to either/or, whichever eases thy mind in knowing I am associated as an American-native.)
---------------------------------------------- ---------- Post added at 02:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:53 PM ---------- so far, we have gained an insight to who is behind the curtain by learning the following: I am not a dead male but the respective opposite of the afore-mentioned; I "entertain" you fellow Americans not in tv or film nor periodicals, but rest assured I have been featured in all of above if you were paying close atention to hear me. Continuing the inquiry, who could I possibly be? http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3238/...84076b64_m.jpg |
9. singer?
|
9) yes. (I'm glad my clues are of use to you, or... was that just a stab in the dark?)
|
10. under 30?
|
10) no. (but when I fell in love with her, she was well under 30.)
|
11) Linda Ronstadt?
|
12. Is she a blonde?
|
11) no. (is this parenthentical pondering growing weary, or does it actually help?)
12) no. (and I am near certain that she has never appeared as a blonde at any point in her career) |
(I like parenthetical exposition)
13) Joan Baez? |
13) no (you might be confusing how old I really am, Nick; that or I'm really bad at subtraction; plus, Golly. Linda Ronstadt was quite the lovely bird.)
post-script: when I said "well" under 30, she was just a few months shy of turning 30 when I encountered her portfolio. Turns out I really do blow at math. |
14) Patti Smith (I was not doing the math, Jet. Maybe I should)
|
14) no. (Math is overrated, and I can see why most instances of its applications are eschewed in common board messaging; magnification of such, as illustrated by this example.)
|
15. cher?
|
16. PJ Harvey?

15 and 16
no and no
I'm going to consult Baraka's original process to see if I should give a clue at this point: I may be back, so don't guess yet. ---------- Post added at 09:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:14 PM ---------- guess you are on your own Four more attempts! |
17. melissa etheridge?

Janis?
|
Lisa Loeb? ....hot & nerdy!
|
17, 18, 19
no, no, no.
one more question left |
Joan Jett?
|
20) no.
Alright that's 20 questions, more or less, rattled off. I've decided to treat this as I played 20 questions when I was younger; after 20 different proposed questions were issued to try to reveal certain characteristics, there was also allowed not questions but overtime guesses to identify the person/thing in question. So, if only for my round, don't feel pressured to try it later on only because I set a precedent, I will allow an extra final five guesses in order to ascertain my personage. The only thing that is absolute is that you only get one guess, so if you guess wrong, you have used up your one guess and must wait to see if any of the four players got their guess right. Now, which living American musician am I? |

I'll go with Pink.
(I always do!) |
was that your one guess, Leto?
Pink is incorrect, but along the lines of Lisa Loeb (and Cher to a minute extent), you're getting closer in supposing an artist who has produced works within the past decade. Four more people can guess, then the round ends. |
pat benatar (on the comeback trail...)?
|
Sheryl Crow?
|
unclephil - no.
Punk.of.Ages - no. Just two lonely assumptions left, friends. |
...madonna? (also an author...her book "Sex" sold one and a half million copies in 6 months)
` |
Shell - no.
Looks as though BadNick may have the last guess, but that doesn't mean he'll be right. |

wasn't he right once? maybe? |
lay off, buddy! and get ready for some huge wisdom with my final, and correct, guess:
Are you Tori Amos? |
BadNick - no.
Well, so ends this round without a definite winner as well. I'll be back with the answer and a way to break the tie later. |

Cat Power
I wonder if this would've sparked anything at all had I posted it:
second silhouette click to show Beside the above, my intention and mindest from the start was centered around two musicians. Right before the round started, I flipped a coin, it came up tails, and thus I went with the female counterpart of my dual choice: Chan Marshall. (Had it been heads, you all would have been tying to guess Damon Albarn.) What was surprising about this round was that no further intimate guesses were offered after I revealed that the artist was American; I thought there could have been more prodding questions like "was she born in a southern state?" or "Is her genre R&B?", things of that nature. So, Who is Chan Marshall? http://farm1.static.flickr.com/67/16...41047fd8_m.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3025/...03793437_m.jpg http://farm1.static.flickr.com/151/3...10542eec_m.jpg http://farm1.static.flickr.com/131/3...a0ea22f8_m.jpg "Chan" Marshall is a singer also known as Cat Power. Her real name is Charlyn Marie Marshall and she's American. Her first name is actually pronounced (Shawn). Chan is pretty eclectic and so is her music. She's a true musician and plays the guitar and piano. Unbelievably for an unknown, Chan made Maxim's 2009 Hot 100 List at an astonishing number 19. Maxim must think of her as being a rising star on the brink. She also is beautiful with her dark brown hair and light freckles. You would never believe she's over 35 years old. Chan also has a funny side to her as well. She once wanted to audition to be in the cast of Saturday Night Live. . . . Rest of article click to show So, all in all, I sought to illustrate one (of five) of my biggest musical inspirations within the past two decades to you all. I hope you enjoyed this past round (though it was a tad longer), this exposé of the historical Chan, and this little playlist I compiled for you. Just like Chan, I am a rabid perfectionist and a subscriber to the ideals of aesthetics, no matter how foolhardy. Heads - Punk.of.Ages Tails - ring Best two out of three will be declared the new http://fc00.deviantart.com/fs11/i/20..._Artemendo.gif, and free to start the new round of questioning and complementary guessing. |
Jetée,
she looks hot, though she seems a bit undernourished by my portly standards; but I never heard of her. Reading your info about her makes me want to explore her musical works soon. I just searched her name and Cat Power on my favorite radio station WXPN 88.5 FM :: Public Radio from the University of Pennsylvania and they have presented her to the listeners but I missed it. |
Well to elaborate, she used to abuse achohol and is defined as a bit "crazy" due to how she used to play and stop and talk and rant during her live shows.
I have one of her live shows when she played at La Cigale Paris, and she uttered no less than a dozen apologies and "I'm sorry's" during the performance. It was phenomenal, but a bit awkward. I've read in interviews that she is notoriously shy on stage as well, and combined with her perfectionism, past substance abuse, and overall aloof demeanor, it was a bit of a grating expereince to see her play live before the new millenium. I've posted a few tidbits and samplings of her music throughout the forum, so if you are so inclined, you can search those out. She has a very smooth voice that loves to cover old style songs, as well as creating her own original music throughout the span of her career. I praise her "You Are Free" album as her best commercial success thus far, but her debut in "Dear Sir" gives you a real glimpse of the eclectic nature her music portrays. By the way, I chose my possible successors of Punk & ring because they're guesses were the closest in genre to Cat Power, which is more of a bluesy, folk rock vibe. I flipped a coin 3 Times, and it came up tails, heads, tails. Seems the uncanny synchronism will always rule over me. ring, you are Free to roll. |
