If you searched "Beaver Oregon" you likely found the town I moved to shortly after leaving the service. One flashing yellow light and a pop of less then 200. I was on the Nestucca Rural Volunteer Fire Dept. there as a fireman and EMT while I lived there. Still have a coast and hat that read "Beaver Fire Dept."

I've searched quite a bit but still can't find an "interesting" building you might be in that is a few miles from a town. I can only narrow down the area:

I am south of Route 26, which the by as it leaves Portland and goes through Beaverton is also known to the locals as "The Sunset." Many people will tell you it gets that name because people commuting home out of Portland on it are looking west and at the sunset. Plaques at several points along the way will tell you it's actually named for the US 41st Infantry Division which had many Oregon members during WWII. It's construction first started in 1941 by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1st. depression and was completely shortly after the end of WWII.

Mainly I'm telling you this because my uncle went from unemployed to employed because of the CCC and worked on this highway. But you could make a WWII connection to the building I'm in even though it was built more recently.

BTW- you guys better find me today I'm going diving tomorrow, back to Mahahual for a few days then back to Merida for Carnival then I'm off to Belize. Once I get to Belize I should have the Net again but that's going to be a week and half at least.

In 1942, the U.S. Navy began construction of 17 wooden hangars to house the K-class blimps being used for anti-submarine coast patrol and convoy escort. Two of these hangars were built at the Naval Air Station Tilllamook, commissioned in December 1942 to serve the Oregon-Washington coastal area.

Construction of the two hangars was rushed to completion. Hangar "B" was the first one built and was completed in the spring of 1943. Hangar "A" which was destroyed in a 1992 fire, was completed in only 30 days. Amazingly, there were no serious injuries or deaths on the whole project.

Stationed at NAS Tillamook was Squadron ZP-33 with a complement of eight K-ships. The K-ships were 252 feet long and filled with 425,000 cu. ft. of helium. With a range of 2,000 miles and an ability to stay aloft for three days, they were well suited for coast patrol and convoy escort. Naval Air Station Tillamook was decommissioned in 1948.

Since 1994 the remaining hangar has been home to one of the top five privately owned aircraft collections in the nation.

No, but that's the blimp hanger where I used to work next door. I couldn't remember when they turned it into a museum. I do know it was long after I became a PO and had my office at the court house. I have flown into that airport and parked my plane right in front to those huge doors.

No, I'm not in Belize right now. I will be in a few weeks or a month or so. I was planing on being there starting March 1st but my place to stay fell through. I wanted to finish my dive master course there. Looks like I'm going to be finishing it in Akumal which is where I was today. I'm diving Akumal and staying Playa (del Carmen.) Playa has more lodging choices.
