yes NH and yes EH
Tul, after I wild guessed Guam and you said I was getting warm, I went on google maps and looked around in the Pacific on the west side of Guam. I saw a couple very small white dots that were not even labeled, so when I zoomed in on one of those it said "Colonia". Since I never heard of Colonia, I googled it and found a couple links that I read and that convinced me to throw the guess out there. One of the links was this one: Federated States of Micronesia Colonia Dive Base Leader Job and employment (SOUTHPACIFICEMPLOYMENT.COM ...which made me fantasize that I could instruct and manage a diving operation, jump on the next plane and send a letter to my family from Colonia and see if they're clever enough to find me. I would give my family free diving lessons and dive trips. |

So no to Asia. |

not Bulgaria, I'm still south of there.
not Albania...east of there. |
is georgia on your mind?
|
It is, but that's still not where I am. I'm west of Georgia. Tul was closer when he guessed Bulgaria. I think if you add up all the guesses and clues, you only have a couple choices as to where I could be.
good will clue: think "transcontinental" |
Macedonia?
|
turkey?
|
OK unc, you got the country = Turkey.
Now keep in mind that I said I was in Europe and at a sacred place and you will be finding me very soon. |
In Istanbul?
|
yes.
|
Bosphorus Bridge? Maybe not sacred but it is transcontinental.
|
Not the bridge. The "transcontinental" clue was just to get you to Turkey since it is partly in Europe and partly in Asia; that clue has no further bearing on where I am. So look for a holy place in the European section of Istanbul and you'll find me.

Sancta Sophia?
|
My prayers to St. Sophia are answered! You found me, Tul. You're up, go hide.
Hagia Sophia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2.../Aya_sofya.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...March_2008.jpg Hagia Sophia is a former patriarchal basilica, later a mosque, now a museum in Istanbul, Turkey. Famous in particular for its massive dome, it is considered the epitome of Byzantine architecture. It was the largest cathedral ever built in the world for nearly a thousand years, until the completion of the Seville Cathedral in 1520. The current building was originally constructed as a church between A.D. 532 and 537 on the orders of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian, and was in fact the third Church of the Holy Wisdom to occupy the site (the previous two had both been destroyed by riots). It was designed by two architects, Isidore of Miletus and Anthemius of Tralles. The Church contained a large collection of holy relics and featured, among other things, a 50 foot (15 m) silver iconostasis. It was the patriarchal church of the Patriarch of Constantinople and the religious focal point of the Eastern Orthodox Church for nearly 1000 years. In 1453, Constantinople was conquered by the Ottoman Turks and Sultan Mehmed II ordered the building to be converted into the Ayasofya Mosque. The bells, altar, iconostasis, and sacrificial vessels were removed, and many of the mosaics were eventually plastered over. The Islamic features — such as the mihrab, the minbar, and the four minarets outside — were added over the course of its history under the Ottomans. It remained as a mosque until 1935, when it was converted into a museum by the Republic of Turkey. For almost 500 years the principal mosque of Istanbul, Hagia Sophia served as a model for many of the Ottoman mosques such as the Sultan Ahmed Mosque (Blue Mosque of Istanbul), the Şehzade Mosque, the Süleymaniye Mosque, and the Rüstem Pasha Mosque. Although it is sometimes referred to as Saint Sophia (Greek for wisdom), the Greek name in full is Ναός τῆς Ἁγίας τοῦ Θεοῦ Σοφίας, Church of the Holy Wisdom of God, and it was dedicated to the Holy Wisdom of God rather than a specific saint named Sophia. |

Huatulco is known to many in Mexico as the Anti-Cancun. My neighbor is a pilot for Mexicana Air and he flys there once or twice a week. He tells me the locals in Huatulco started a campaign years ago to keep the Mexican government from over developing the area. Today it's a tourist area but mostly Mexican tourist. He told me one day he was talking to an American about places to go in Mexico and he mentioned Huatulco. After the conversation and after the American left he was approached by a lady from Huatulco who politely, but sternly, suggested in the future he suggest Cancun to any gringos asking. Here's a tidbit from Wiki on the town and area- Quote:
Don't think that idea sold well. But I hear it's really nice area and the hotels are reasonable. Only real draw back is getting there, the airport is small and costly due to fee etc... It's easy and cheap to get to Oaxaca but from there it's a six hour bus ride. Still going to go there someday. Ok, you're up Mr. Phil. -----Added 3/12/2008 at 03 : 45 : 17----- Quote:

Tul,
watch your back! Now you're gonna be on the Huatulco Rotary Club's "hit list" for spilling the beans to us about this nice place. |
Quote:
Progreso, where I live, is kind of like the anti-Cancun too. But a couple days a week it's more Cancun then I'd like. The cruise ships arrive and the place fills with tourists. Most tourists leave their common sense at home, IMHO. I've had people on the beach ask me questions like "how you get those two big dogs on the ship?" or "how'd you get your truck down here?" At first I started answering with "you should see the size of my luggage" or "there's a time/space portal at the boarder, you just pull your vehicle in and they flip a switch and it instantly transports you anywhere in Mexico you want." After getting the reaction of "really?" several times I now plan my week around not being in town when the ship are. |
ok, find me if you can...
