...also there's plenty of water here in Philly today; giant flakes falling all day and accumulating slush; if it would have been a little colder we'd have 6 to 8 inches of snow; but luckily the Phils are so hot it melted all the snow. Go Phillies!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

the Teatro alla Scala in Milan?
go rays... |
In spite of the rays upcoming demise, you found me, unc. Your up, bud.
The Teatro alla Scala (or La Scala, as it is known), in Milan, Italy, is one of the world's most famous opera houses. The theatre was inaugurated on 3 August 1778, under the name Nuovo Regio Ducal Teatro alla Scala with Salieri's Europa riconosciuta. La Scala's season traditionally opens on 7 December, Saint Ambrose's Day, Milan's patron saint. Unlike the Phillies/Rays World Series Games, all performances must end before midnight; long operas start earlier in the evening if need be. Ticketholders are not allowed to enter after the performance has begun. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...scalanotte.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...ala_piazza.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...49a4f5cb_o.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2.../Beauty525.jpg Bonus pic of typical Italian opera-fan. Jessica Alba is probably thinking of calling me at this intermission to tell me how much she missed me being at this great opera house with her...maybe next time, dear: http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...3225124816.jpg |

OK, I better get back to narrowing down the geography.

Are you at the Academy of Music?

nope...

yes...and Hungarian, too. So you are probably at a restaurant....hmmmm. I'll start with one of my favorite:
Are you at Lacroix, in the Rittenhouse Hotel? |
nope...
|
How about the Reading Terminal Market?
...they finally managed to drive out Rick Olivieri, last Wednesday Oct. 29th was the last day; so no more Rick's Steaks there :( I hope he finds a new spot somewhere good. |
nope...
|
Well let me nail this down:
are you at a restaurant? |
yup...
|
|
nope...
big clue: "(It)...was a special place to enjoy seafood, cocktails, and friendship. It hosted to Presidents, local politicians, countless international dignitaries and celebrities. For over a century, it has been considered Philadelphia's prime dining spot and social Mecca. In the 1950s and 1960s, devotees of its famous five-pound lobsters included Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra and Julius Irving ("Dr. J")..." |
ahhh, that was a huge clue, unc.
The Old Original Bookbinder's......? As you may know, it was closed down for quite a while recently but has now reopened. In spite of all the "tourist trap" B.S. about it, it is a classic old restaurant, the classic old waiters rounded out the atmosphere, and under favorable conditions there I've had a few of the best lobsters I've ever had. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...restaurant.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...ookbinders.jpg I like the bar in there, too. I've had many a fine martini and manhattan in there while smoking a nice big cigar. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...binders4_U.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...inders_500.jpg |
Book Binders
that would be the place... i've eaten there as well as one (i think it was a bookbinders, anyway) over off chestnut street near the customs house... you go, nick... |
unc, the link you posted (address shown as 125 Walnut St.) as well as the references I made are to the "Old Original" Bookbinder's that is around the corner from the Customs House...Customs House is 2nd & Chestnut and Bookbinders is 2nd and Walnut one block down the street behind the Customs House. But there was another Bookbinder's Seafood House at 215 S. 15th St...I'm almost certain that one is no longer there; the Bookbinder brothers had legal battles about money and I think it closed down a few years ago...not 100% positive, so I'll go look later this week.
PS: if you ever visit Philly and call me, I'll buy us some lobsters and drinks at Old Original Bookbinder's if you bring a couple good cigars for us to toke on. OK, where in the world am I this time? |
i've eaten at both, but that was in the mid-80s...

yes, east of that wet miss.

in a landlocked state?
|
Not in a landlocked state. In fact, I'm right next to some water.
|
atlantic water?
|
not atlantic water
|
mississippi?
|
Not the missus.
|
that leaves alabama...
ok, a city in alabama? |
nope, not in alabama.
unc, you lost me with your "conclusion". I'm east of the miss, not landlocked, not on atlantic waters, and not on the Miss. River. But that leaves a lot of other possible fresh water locations in coastal states. So I could be in a state the touches the Atlantic Ocean, but the water I'm next to is not the ocean. |
my mis-whatever...
i presume that landlocked is not bordering on an ocean...at least, that's how i give my clues... and you said not in a landlocked state... |
correct...not landlocked, the state I'm in touches the Atlantic Ocean....but I'm next to some fresh water in that state.
|
NY?
|
yes NY
|
a city?

I'm in a city but I'm wanting you to find the specific place I am in that city...it's a relatively large (bigger than one building) public space.
|
in new york city?
|
yes sir unc, NYC...right next to the water.
I love this place and try to get there if I'm in town for more than a couple days. It's an island of beauty, peace and serenity in an otherwise bouncing-off-the-walls-full-of-energy place...or BOTWFOE for short. |
