Fess-Up - Have you/are you going to buy it...?

Have you or are you going to buy the new Harry Potter book?

We all want to know.

My wife already ordered one and it is being delivered to our house on Saturday morning.

Fly 06-17-2003 01:46 PM

my son is a harry potter freak.....any and all, books, vids, comics you name it he's all over it.

World's King 06-17-2003 01:54 PM

I already ordered it... like three weeks ago.

*goes back to being 13*

G_Whiz 06-17-2003 02:09 PM

My wife ordered it months ago. We expect that it will be delivered over the weekend or by Monday at the latest.

If you knew us, you would not be surprised at this.

ratbastid 06-17-2003 02:16 PM

Lurkette and I will probably wade through hip-deep children to buy a copy this weekend.

That said, it may not be that bad. The day the last one was out, she sauntered into our local Barnes & Noble, walked up to the HUGE stack of books, grabbed one, and walked straight over to checkout. Hardly a soul in sight, she said.

uncle phil 06-17-2003 04:01 PM

nope...

KWSN 06-17-2003 05:42 PM

EDIT: Sorry, MSD is stupid and hit "edit" instead of "quote." This is to let you know that KWSN didn't screw up and get edited. -MSD

hotzot 06-17-2003 05:43 PM

cchris 06-17-2003 05:44 PM

Might have a problem.
They have been STOLEN

MrFlux 06-17-2003 05:59 PM

No.

sierra2774 06-17-2003 07:18 PM

I have not ordered it yet, but I am sure my Daughter will want it, she has all the rest of them.

hawkeye 06-17-2003 07:42 PM

I will, at some point.

Xixox 06-17-2003 09:38 PM

Getting the book, and getting the book on CD as well.

Jim Dale kicks ass.

queedo 06-17-2003 09:45 PM

negative!

Loki 06-17-2003 10:46 PM

ill probably buy it in a few months....

Fremen 06-17-2003 11:35 PM

I reserved it at our local Barnes & Noble.
The saleslady told me they were having a Harry Potter party a couple of hours before Midnight. *ugh*
Then I find out there was a murder in Barnes & Noble, and now I just don't know what I'll do. :D
Who kills someone in a Barnes & Noble? *sheesh!*

BBtB 06-18-2003 12:03 AM

I can honestly say I have not read one book or seen either movie. Not planning on doing either any time soon.

Midlandmadman 06-18-2003 02:18 AM

no!

Meridae'n 06-18-2003 02:36 AM

No way. I may read it someday (or i may not, probably the latter) but it's not keeping me awake at night...

Sticky 06-18-2003 05:07 AM

For those of you who have not read any of the Harry Potter books, why not?

cchris I read about the stolen ones. Take a look at this, someone accidentally got a copy early http://www.canada.com/montreal/story...7-B185AB7297B2

Loup 06-18-2003 05:11 AM

I have it pre-ordered for my g/f
Shhhh, don't tell her :)

cdwonderful 06-18-2003 07:38 AM

I'll wait for the movie.....

Sticky 06-18-2003 08:10 AM

The movies suck compared to the books.

liquid_dreams 06-18-2003 12:49 PM

i probably well but not the day it comes out all the kids and old hags.... *geep* but its not going to get the better of me i hope...

Atropos4 06-19-2003 02:50 PM

I'm most definately going to buy it!!!!!!

I'm soo excited about the book...I feel kinda silly ...I'm that excited!

Some of the local book stores are hosting overnight parties but I doubt I'll go...I'd be like the only adult...sounded kinda neat though..my favorite book store is going to have a life size shadow of Hadgid for people to compare themselves to.
I just finished the 4th book last night for the 2nd time...(I wanted to have the books fresh in my mind for the new one)
I work with an 82 year old woman and she's just as excited as I am about the new book....these books seem to cross the age gap that's for sure

Did you actually read it, or just skim it? :D

Genre just dosn't excite me. I am still working on a back log of hunderds of years of classics to be distracted by some latest fad.

Lebell 06-19-2003 11:45 PM

Soon as they have it at Costco.

That's where I bought the other four in hardback.

Macheath 06-20-2003 04:17 AM

I think I might just read them all when the series is finished. (are there any more coming?) That way I won't have to wade through any media hype and hysteria. And I can just borrow all of my sister's copies.

Sticky 06-20-2003 05:58 AM

Macheath, there are two more after this one.

BBtB,these books which are released at a very slow pace (3yrs since last one) do not distract me from the pile of non-fiction that I have to read. That distraction comes easily from sleep, TV, computer...

GSRIDER 06-20-2003 09:42 AM

We pre-ordered it many moons ago. Hopefully it will appear on our doorstep... like magic.... on saturday... at least that is what Amazon promised!!!!!

it holds absolutely no interest to me. i've seen the whole damn hype machine up and running since the first one broke big, but a book about some punk-ass kid sorcerer dosen't turn my wheels. i've read lots of fantasy books, so i've seen my way around the genre, but the harry potter series just holds no interest.

eyeseepeedude 06-20-2003 10:11 AM

nope, never gonna do it. (*no interest*)

blindawg 06-20-2003 10:22 AM

Um.. NO

Dentyne 06-20-2003 10:48 AM

Sure, the books are a nice easy read and are well done.
Anybook thats well written is a good book.

vermin 06-20-2003 01:12 PM

I'll wait 'till it's at the local library (free).

Xixox 06-20-2003 09:39 PM

Got it!

Now I just have to wait for Molly to finish reading it so I can jump in.

Remarkably, we got the 1st copy at the store since we'd reserved a copy. Lots of grumpy folks ahead of us who had to go to the back of the line.
Bwahahaha.

Oh, and it's Trevor that dies.

Thraeryn 06-20-2003 09:48 PM

I haven't read any of them or seen any of the movies, but I imagine that life with Jinya will change that. Up to now, I've just not had any particular interest. The Matrix holds much more fascination for me.

LOL!
Now ya see KWSN...I can always count on you for a laugh!
That was funny.
Can I just keep ya stashed away for my own entertainment?

As for the book...Um, I suppose I would need to read book one first...

krwlz 06-22-2003 07:47 PM

I hate harry potter, sorry. I see it as a cheap rip off of the medieval fantasy books I do like. With the blood, guts, gore, magic, and all the other shit. I just think Harry Potter is a complete rip off.

TerresqueÜ 06-22-2003 07:58 PM

I read the first 2 books...I'm almost embarassed to say cuz they totally murder the category of fantasy.

If you wanna read about magic read the adult version of Harry Potter : Lord of the Rings.

Depends where I'm being stashed. I'm afraid of the dark. And dust bunnies.

Great minds think alike. That's what I expected.

toddman 07-02-2003 04:36 AM

I will probly just borrow it from my sister inlaw, no hurry still waiting for her to give me the first four.

Early H 07-31-2003 09:57 PM

I hate those gay Harry Butthole Pussy Poter books i read 50 pages of the first book to see what the big damn deal was. It was a complete waste of my time, and sucked ass, besides being rip offs of older books. I say down with Harry Butthole Pussy Poter

Sticky 08-01-2003 05:03 AM

Early H, I sense that you don't particularly care for Harry Potter.

Fremen 08-01-2003 10:45 PM

I wonder if Early H is harboring a deeper hatred of reading in general.
Did you not have fun with Dick and Jane? :D

Actually, I'm a Harry Potter fan. Yes, i LOVE LOTR and have read the Hobbit. The books are great, and the movies are great too (refering to FOTR and TT). Harry Potter is a... simpler fantasy. They are quite well written (the first ones better than book 4, which has been criticized as out of character, noting it is fairly gruesome at a few points, and not the best young child read as the first 3 were). I don't claim for it to be the most complex and deep novel set, or even close to it. However, a truly great novel can be widely appreciated and can appeal to the masses and then some. This is what it does, and it does it well. Any book that is read by as large and diverse an age group as Harry Potter has done is quite amazing by any standards.

Any opinions on any other books that has had this type of widespread appeal? I'm thinking the various chicken soup books (although, that's hard to tell because there are really so many). It is not my favorite book or series (LOTR is, for it's complexity and sheer genius).

muckluck 08-02-2003 10:04 AM

Heh. I bought it the 2nd day it came out and had no trouble getting it.
