"it.....(the problem i have)......is called GAS."
I'm laughing that silent_jay posted first to leave his scent on this thread. OK.OK. Juvenile sophomoric humor aside... that's looks great, Fly! Congrats! I'm certain you'll be making some seriously sweet music together with your new strung out friend. |

i was gonna make a fire outside tonight and have a go with her but.........i figured if i got GAS.........that wouldn't be a good idea. :D |
Can you play 'Classical Gas' on that?
Nice... |
Sexy, Fly!!
|
Is that an acoustic bass guitar? I think guitarists and their ilk generally get much more excited about equipment than other musicians...
I have three flutes, one silver with a B footjoint, one wooden concert flute with a B footjoint, and an alto flute. I also have a piccolo and a bunch of traditional flutes and things. But I haven't bought a flute in a couple years and don't currently plan to buy any more! |

yes it's an acoustic bass..........as for guitarists diggin thier gear more......not sure i agree. reason being.....i play drums first and foremost........have 2 kits. 3 guitars that i play and now 3 basses.......so.....just being a musician itself is what gives me ......... GAS...........:D and the trick is..........never get rid of your gear. |
Ok maybe not guitarists... I meant contemporary musicians, like rock and pop and jazz. Classical musicians just don't get that excited... especially classical stringed instrument players. You have to get well into the five-digit price range to uncover anything really special there.

tell me you didn't know this was coming...
Jumpin' Jack Flash Rolling Stones I was born in a cross-fire hurricane And I howled at my ma in the driving rain, But its all right now, in fact, its a gas! But its all right. Im jumpin jack flash, Its a gas! gas! gas! I was raised by a toothless, bearded hag, I was schooled with a strap right across my back, But its all right now, in fact, its a gas! But its all right, Im jumpin jack flash, Its a gas! gas! gas! I was drowned, I was washed up and left for dead. I fell down to my feet and I saw they bled. I frowned at the crumbs of a crust of bread. Yeah, yeah, yeah I was crowned with a spike right thru my head. But its all right now, in fact, its a gas! But its all right, Im jumpin jack flash, Its a gas! gas! gas! Jumping jack flash, its a gas Jumping jack flash, its a gas Jumping jack flash, its a gas Jumping jack flash, its a gas Jumping jack flash |

Oh Sharon! You're a flutist?!!! Cool.
I (am) used to be... need to dust mine off to see if I can still play it. Little girl down the street wants me to give her lessons. Good excuse I guess to dust it off & brush up. I have a Powell. I'm sure you know how special that is. Do you play professionally? Sorry, Fly to derail your GAS thread! Don't find other flutists often. :) |
Cool fly... I've never seen an acoustic bass before. I bet it sounds pretty sweet.

My wooden one is a Yamaha, it's an interesting sound and since I was given it by a guy who liked me, I'm not complaining. The alto is also a Yamaha, got a great deal on it secondhand, and my piccolo is Emerson. I did a degree in music and flute was my first instrument, but it's very hard to get gigs here in London and the ones you do get aren't that well paid so I couldn't really describe myself as a professional player. I do still play but my chops aren't as good as they were when I left school... I was doing MANY hours a day at that point after all. |
Yeah, I couldn't touch a Powell today if I had not gotten mine back in 1976. My flute instructor was a member of the Musicians' Union, so she found an ad in the union newspaper selling the flute. At the time, if I remember correctly, brand new Powells were selling for ~$1500, but...there was a SEVEN YEAR waiting list! We drove to Illinois to pick this 2nd hand one up for $2000 -- the previous owner had died.
Yahamas are excellent. I never got to play the alto much, but I played my teacher's Haynes piccolo in high school. I went on to be a flute major in college, too. So yeah, I know all about MANY hours of playing a day. I felt I had to lock myself in a practice room no less than 8 hrs per day. Then of course there were all the various rehearsals as well. When you leave school & have to live your life, there's just not time to practice or play as much any more. Eventually I got interested in other things & quit playing altogether since I never found any ensembles to join up. Now I gotta brush up & give lessons. This could be a good thing.... maybe! :-) Cheers~! PS. to Fly : Got any new tunes? Mail me a link sometime. :icare: |

you wouldn't believe Charlie. 2 freakin years to find one i liked and she got a vigorous fondeling last night for many hours. just couldn't put her down man..........and she stood up to buddy's screamin' Les Paul......was quite surprised in the volume of that acoustic pickup.... too bad those 4 strings were in the way or i'd be sexin' that baby up. |
You have a 30 year old Powell! Make sure you take it to a tech for a tune-up and lubrication, it will make all the difference.
Fly... ewww. |

17 years ago I had a choice between an accoustic bass and an electric one. I bought the electric, and I regret it.
Can I swap with you, Fly? |
Daniel - play upright bass. Smokey jazz bar, upright bass, very sexy.
