Family Egg Nog Recipe
This Egg Nog recipe has been in my family for three generations. It's a secret that I'm sharing with you as my Christmas Gift to my much-adored TFP friends. Enjoy!
10 Egg Yolks 2 1/2 cups sugar 3 qts 2% milk 1 qt bourbon (I use Jim Beam--a qt is a little more than a 750ml bottle) 1/2 of a 5th (that is, 13 oz) of light rum (I use Bacardi Light) Separate the eggs and put yolks in a BIG mixing bowl. With electric beater, whip until they lighten. Gradually blend in sugar. The mixture should get sort of doughy. Slowly and steadily pour in bourbon and rum, mixing constantly. Then SLOWLY add in the milk (if you go too fast, it'll curdle and it's all over). Mix very thoroughly. Scrape down the sides of the bowl occasionally while adding booze and milk. Garnish with a sprinkle of ground nutmeg and enjoy! Makes 1 1/4 gallons, so be sure you have milk jugs and liquor bottles enough to hold it, and a funnel for bottling. |
