Made muh first actual meal..Cheese tortellini with meat sauce
First time actually making a real meal. It's cool :D. It's easy as hell too anyone could do it. Only thing that sux is they only had Cheese and not beef tortellini shells in the frozen foods section. Still tastes pretty good regardless. Gotta keep in mind I'm only 20 and a guy...prolly the most cooking I'll ever do haha.
:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D http://www.theholidayspot.com/newyear/newyear_icon.gif Asta!! |
Well done!
Using the same tortellini (though it's better with the beef tortellini and ever better still with the tortellini made with proscuitto or ham (that's usually i the fresh food case) you can make a traditional Italian soup (that I've doctored over the years so how traditional it still is, I don't know. Tortellini En Brodo - -the lazy method. 1 package of frozen tortellini 2 cans beef broth (chicken if you prefer) 1 package of frozen spinach 2 cloves garlic, minced finely Comine everything in a pot, and bring to a simmer, simmer about 15 -20 minutes, when tortellini floats, and spinach is defrosted, you are done. Serve with Crusty italian bread and parmesean cheese. (you can also add in leftover cooked chopped meat, or chicken or whatever) |
^ I think my dad would like that. Cool! :D

mal, i'm gonna give your lazy soup a shot soon! sounds great.
side note: does pasta make anyone else sleepy? i've just begun noticing this lately, i get so overwhelmingly drowsy whenever i eat pasta! |
Hmm...nope I don't really feel sleepy right now.

Mal, love the soup recipe. I'll definitely have to try it.
K-wise, good job! If and when you purchase a cookbook, do yourself a favor: Better Homes and Gardens. It's a newbie's friend. :) |
^ Haha my mom uses those magazines from time to time. I think I want to practice making a delicious mexican meal next time...something also simple but very tasty and filling like..CONCHAS! Or Fideo! I looooove conchas and fideo. They aren't hard to make either. I'm mexican so of course I love these foods.
edit: Also my mom has LOADS of cook books. She shares recipes with my sisters on occaision. They don't cook very often though. Asta!! |
lol nicely done K-wise! :D
Ya know, cooking isn't so difficult as most people think. Once you've learned the few basics it's the easiest thing in the world to make traditional dishes as well as make up your own ones. Try having your mom teach you a few tricks eh? :) "Made muh first actual meal"? Muh? |
Now, if you really want to go there, try making your own tortellini from scratch. I made squid ink tortellini stuffed with crab and spinach yesterday. It was an interesting result.
|
I like squid ink pasta, not for the taste but its nice freaking people out because you're eating gray-ish food..
and making tortellini is so time consuming..but I LOVE fresh pasta...*drools* I got my mom the pasta attachment for her Kitchen Aid Mixer... she loves me. Hey K-Wise dont you guys have the "fresh" stuff near the dairy or meats thats just chilled and not frozen? |
YAY for you!!! With an appetite like yours I'm surprised this is the first time :p
Congrats :icare: |
^ CHEAH! Ya know chef I didn't even check to see if they had the fresh kind :|. That prolly woulda tasted even betters. The meat sauce was good though so that made it taste good. Ground beef pasta sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, italian seasoning, basil, salt, pepper, etc. Was very yummy..Just like how my mom makes it :D well hers may be a little better because mothers have magical powers ya know how that is.

Thats about the only thing I usually ever do make. Mostly pepperoni sammiches, or if theres a chicken breast layin around a chicken bacon & swiss with honey mustard...Ham & Swiss on french bread. My fave would be pepperoni Croisanwhiches...easy as hell to make..fast...goodie good good.
