Sushi

so I've begun to grow a serious passion for sushi. I've decided I'd like to make my own and want to start with a simple tuna roll. I understand that the wraps and rice are not terribly hard to come by but what should I do about obtaining sushi quality fish? I've never made my own, kind of a new project.

Call a couple of the resturants in your city. I took a class from a place here in Calgary and learned how to make the rolls and stuff, plus they sell what they call "sushi kits," they come with all the rice, fish and extras I need to make enuff sushi for 2 ppl for around $20.

Sushi Grade is 1.

Talk to your local fish monger.

Not so along the lines as what you are looking for, but maybe some information that you may find helpful..

Anyways, I would do as said above, find a local fish monger and ask whats up.

Look for Ahi Tuna

I second that. Go to a reputable local fish store (not like a supermarket or something, an actual fish store) and look for sushi grade tuna.

Thank you for all the help :)

For practicing, you might also want to start with shrimp rolls or sushi that doesn't require the raw fish.

Heh, who knew.. you can buy fish on Ebay....

Sushi is cheap enough around here that I have no need to make it anymore, but I used to make it all the time.

Any good fish monger should be able to get the fish you want.
The rice is the hardest part to get right IMO...it takes a bit of practice but eventually it will taste great.

I'm sure you can get everything you need at this web site. Seems a bit pricey to me, but I'll post it anyways.

PM me if you have any questions regarding preperation and rolling.

I know this is random, I live in lubbock, TX. Does anyone know anywhere local where I can get Sushi supplies and ingredients?
